Because I have all 51 of The 1970's Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts! That's why Everyday I just see more & more things on regular tv now that do not entertain me and certainly do not make me laugh much or feel good! This vintage show does the trick! It's just wonderful. First of all it's LOADED with stars.. REAL STARS! Now I was little boy when this show ran weekly and these stars on not really technically "My Stars" more my parents, but just like music I don't have accept what is now as "Mine" But it brings back GREAT memories for me and know most all of them! Stars - I mean BIG stars pioneers, "Lucille Ball" was a STAR!!! Included on these uncut episodes are GIANTS like Milton Berle Bob Hope Jackie Gleason Jimmy Stewart Bette Davis Kirk Douglas Frank Sinatra Muhammad Ali Jack Benny Don Rickles Lucille Ball Carol O' Connor Sammy Davis Jr John Wayne William Holden Johhny Carson George Burns Art Carney Redd Fox Danny Thomas Hank Aaron Joe Namath Wilt Chamberlin And just boat loads of the BIGGEST TV stars politicans,actors/comedians of the day that appear EVERYBODY And who didn't love Rich Little? He does an impression of Johnny Carson right to Johnny CArson that is so amazing it has Johnny as well as the rest in tears! And of course the very very like-able Dean Martin. With all the troubles and tension in my personal life aside from the economy and other stressful going ons. This show where people are smoking & drinking right on TV and the over the top vintage look of the Grand MGM Vegas Showroom, and the clothes, and often dated humor & abuse is JUST what I needed .... In it I find warmth, talent and people that truly admire, respect & in many cases love each other. Some of them close friends for 30-40 years.... I'm finding that going back in may forms of entertainment like movies & great sitcoms is giving MUCH more joy then what's around me. And it ain't just me! Do yourself a favor and pick at least one of these dvd's and get it shipped to your home. If you can watch Foster Brooks or Don Rickels and not bust out laughing seek medical help! LOL These are PRICELESS!! Anyone else have all or some of them? Lynn? my buddy...

I used to love to watch those roasts. Back then, they had to be a bit more subtle - and use double entendres and things like that. Dean Martin was perfect in that role. I watch the roasts on Comedy Central now and they just don't compare...... I'm getting old, I guess - had to happen someday Scott

Man, Sub,
Just reading the names almost brings me to tears remembering how merciless they were, and how helpless the "Honorees" were.
Might hafta do some Googling to see if I can find a copy.

If you look up "cool" in the dictionary, there is a picture of Dean Martin. I think it was Shirley Maclaine who said, "Frank Sinatra thought he was God, but Dean Martin knew he was."

I'm getting old, I guess - had to happen someday Scott Hi Scott Your not getting old, I have seen them as well and they can't touch these... I saw one for Cheech & Chong and it had a few funny moments but otherwise stunk. First of all again these are REAL STARS.. people who put a load of time into there talent and career. And again when the level around you is set so high! Another thing that is VERY noticeable is "character" When you see Rich Little doing impersonations he has a load of people to do.... I mean they talk and act in such a very unique way... Just in recently I was telling Tripp how the old school impressionist are a gone act. Then that Frank TV came along after all these years which was a surprise to me. But as you'll notice, he does besides Bush lots of old timers, Nicholson,Pacino,Deniro,Madden. Who's unique and interesting enough today to do. Obama? lol... Frank Gorshin was also excellent, he was also the Riddler on the Batman TV series. It's okay to realize and say it, MANY things sucked back then, any many things suck right now. The great things back then are FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR greater and we had Much Much Much Much more than what's great now. It's just that simple, especially popular music.

Midnite Bob - I'm telling you these shows are GREAT! Sometimes it's people like Charlie Calas or Jonathan Winters that will crack you up..... When I'm out of commission which is like every day it seems, I can get very depressed. After all I haven't been out to dinner in 5 years now... So me and my vestibular disorder sit down lean back and watch CLASSIC TV... All dvd's you want a good time... watch "All In The Family" I have all the box sets up to the 5th season. GREAT!! But these Roasts are just what this doctor ordered!!!

Hi Kev The roast of Sinatra was great as was Deans roast. I always liked Frank in films, he was quite good. "The Man With The Golden Arm" What a crew of guys they were..

Sub,
thanks to technology I can pop in a DVD of "it's a mad mad mad mad world", or "day at the races", or Any Laurel and Hardy, or W.C. Feilds, or "the great Race" with Tony Curtis, Jack Lemon and Natalie Wood ... I often find myself trying to defend todays music and entertainment as a whole, but the classics WILL ALWAYS be the classics... (DEFINITELY my Dad's stuff more than MINE!)
those roasts were great, BECAUSE they were all trying to make EACHOTHER laugh. it's just FUN to be able to see it. I am going to have to find some of that stuff myself.. I remember that they exist, but can't remember any specifics.. it will DEFINITELY be worth the search. THANKS for he tip! keep laughing!

Hi Ken Wow that's some cool stuff you got there.. Yes these stars were mostly my Dads as well but lots were mine as too. But I liked it when I was little and I LOVE it now. Is it because it's sentimental? NO it's because it's GREAT, funny as hell and OF COURSE it's sentimental lol I am constantly going back to find great stuff that I missed. I'm all into LOVING today as well. But I'm not stupid either lol... I'm not liking very much of what is coming out in the movies & DVD today. Every week it's just loads of junk with TONS of remakes & if not a remake a copycat. BUT rather get annoyed at that I LOVE it now. Cause this way if it sucks I can go "Goodbye" but if it's decent I get another version of some of my favorite flicks. I'm such a big fan of SO many different things & styles of film & music that I feel lucky not to be so boxed in. I make a few posts on this board about TV & films as to not get into music debates. I defend loads of 90' and some of 2000's music as well. But I can't debate it against past decades. It's just a steamroll and a total destruction. In Rock, R&B & Pop & Jazz anyway. Anyway let me know if you find some stuff, maybe I can hook you up with a little summin summin

Yeah Sub,
Dean was great!
When I started listening to Elvis as a kid, I always heard that if you want great Elvis, you have to get some Dean Martin stuff! So I checked him out, and loved every moment of him. Still do..
Best thing is that my father never liked Elvis nor Dean, so they're both my own!
Yeah, Im their first generation listener in my whole family! That feels so good :-)

Oh man, Sub, I'm so glad to hear you have something that can produce those all-powerful belly laughs. Great medicine. I forgot about those roasts! Yeah, I'm sure anyone at any age will find at least something in any one of those shows that will make them laugh out loud. That sense of reality made all the embarrassment really come through, and I remember how many times those guys would be truly choking with laughter, tears streaming. In fact, just last week I YouTubed Charlie Callas so I could introduce my daughters to his bizarro comedy, and that "vvvt vvvvt" thing he always did. They were dying, and it ended up leading them to check out other comedians from that era. I was such a TV head as a kid, I saw ALL of that stuff, sitting on the couch eating Cheez-its or whatever. Ha, good times.

Georgie Jessel was always on Hollywood Squares, but even then none of us really knew who the hell he was. But when Charlie Callas imitated him, we'd all die laughing...and so did my daughters just last week.

Wow that's something you be the one to like those guys You don't know how I miss all the days when five thousand singers sang in the mainstream and NONE wrote there own songs This is when it was really GREAT to be a songwriter! You should feel good, that is so rare. If you love Dean you will love this show, he is just too much! I'm going to go after his variety show next.....

I was just thinking yesterday (before seeing this post) that Don Rickles is one of the last greats still going from that generation of stars. The rest have either passed away or aren't relevent anymore.. but Don is still performing. Tony Bennett is a bit younger but he's out there too. Who else is left? Kirk Douglas is also still alive but no active like Don is.

Amen to all you said Mike. Humor never goes out of style and these guys set the standard. I'm guessing you accidentally left off Jerry Lewis' name, can't forget him. I have several Dean and Jerry movies that I cherish, that still keep me in stitches.
