I was just wondering if anyone knows what Prince has been up to these days. Don't see much about him anymore. I'm sure he's still making music somewhere.

He was on my radio today! We reminisced (sp?) to KISS! It was wonderful, we sang it in a duet.

I wonder why he never sings to me like that. Oh, well. I like to take Prince walking, though.

He is just plain Prince again? Does that make him The Artist Formerly Known as the Artist Who Was Formerly Known as Prince?

Yep, Tricia,
he's still out there makin music somewhere... in fact........ he was the topic of conversation on my morning radio's celebrity gossip segment just this morning.... It seems that he was trying to give a concert somewhere recently... (the DJs mentioned a few big names in the audience, but I don't remember who....or where) and because cell phones interfere with the sound systems he had asked that folks turn off their phones. When not enough folks did so...he threw in the towel and walked off stage. I guess a stage hand or roadie... came back on stage after a little bit and asked the crowd..hey...did you want a concert or what? (or words to that effect) and when they cooperated a bit more...Prince did come back and gave his concert.
funny you should ask about just today LOL

Hi Gang: After the close on yesterday's big board... I'm thinkin' about renaming my "act" to "Pauper." LOL! I hope Prince has not already laid claim to my new idea. Surely not! He probably has as much money as Bon Jovi. Uh oh, I completely forgot about that other pauper, Michael Jackson. Oh well, whats another name, anyway? Maybe the market will turn around and I can use "King." (Not!) Dave http://www.showcaseyourmusic.com/DaveRice

I know that he's become a Jehovah's Witness and, therefore, won't sing his "dirty" songs anymore. But a man that prolific and talented cannot stop himself from making music, of that I am sure. I think that what he's doing now is just not as marketable as what he used to do.

A Jehovah's Witness? Who'd have thunk it? That's interesting.

That wouldn't surprise me, Steve. After all, Wynona loves Target.

Harriet, cell phones should come with a preprinted instruction sheet on etiquette. When you're at a concert or theater, at the MD's, in a restaurant, in a meeting, at church or driving.......TURN THEM OFF, PEOPLE! I don't blame Prince for that.

He has had a new album out within the last year, it was called Planet Earth. I bought it, it came free with a newspaper He also did some concerts in the UK around that time.

HiDee Mz Trish!
A Visit to Prince.com..& .org..(One's "Official"..other's a Fan-Zine thingy) reveals The Purple One had a Book Release Party/Charity Event.."an incredibly intimate evening" Oct 10 in NYC..atop the roof of the Gansevoort Hotel. Tix were $1050 each PLUS a $36 "Service Fee"... No Mention of the Crowd size that showed up.
Official Site shows "The Book" is called "21 Nights" & is a sorta Backstage Look at "21 Legendary Performances by Prince" and 124 Color Pics by Photog R. St Nicholas. CD of the Same Name has "15 Live Recording & new song (Beggin' Woman Blues)--ONLY available with The Book"... I hit "Buy Now" but it never mentioned "The Cost"...heh!
Couplea those Song Titles sound like he's still singin' some Raunchy Ones...& more power To the Guy if he does. "Superfreak's" Rick James USED to Write & Sound as good as..or better..than Prince..'till he Got Religion. JMO.
Waal..back to Lurk Mode & watchin' The Bailout.
Big Hugs, Stan

OK, maybe I'm misunderstanding this whole thing, Prince was a Jehovah's Witness, as far as I knew, when he wrote hit "dirty" songs. As far back as I can remember, he's been one. Hmm, maybe I just didn't pay enough attention. But Kudos to him for putting his new found faith first, I grew up with may Witnesses (relatives) and they were far from the wholesome clan the Kindom Hall hopes to portray. But they bought their thousands of dollars worth of books, never spoke of them until the meetings, and I guess in reality, behaved like anyone else I knwo of form other religions. Divorced, babies out of wedlock, drinking, the whole nine. Yup, pretty much like any other "followers" who are only Sunday worshipers.

I loved his music, but he always seemed a bit "aloof" to me. Does anyone know WHY he changed his name to a symbol? Does anyone know how he came up with the symbol and what it meant?

I think the symbol stands for "I love to bang hot chick lead singers from bands in Cincinatti" ... and he wanted everyone to know

LOL Herbie, I thought it meant, I've gotten too big for my britches and now I must make every pay, just as the Harry Potter stories say "He who cannot be named" "I shall be The Artist Formerly Known! That should show them my greatness!!"
Seriously though, how do you fit that on a credit card? What do your kids call you, 'dad, the artist formerly known as Prince, but now known as dad" The good side though, your wife would get so frustrated just trying to yell at you by name, you'd probably have way less fights!
OOh, she called him TAFKAP!! That's it!

Kudos to whatever-his-name-is for doing the cell-phone crackdown. More performers should do that. I'm glad he did.
Caroline, I think you've got it. Now that he's reverted, I guess the term is, he can have a first name--TAFKA TAFKAP.
A religious fellow, huh? I wonder if he remembered that line from Jeremiah about "If I forget thee, O Jerusalem..." He sure did make himself (shall we say) a "clashing symbol."

Um, I believe he kicked ass at the Super Bowl a couple of years ago, and followed that with a lucrative tour, so he's hardly been out of the spotlight.

Aloha everyone!
Earlier this year, I sang a Prince song (Nothing Compares 2U) during the end credits of "Forgetting Sarah Marshall". It was in Hawaiian! That's the closest I came to working with Prince, though he probably didn't even know about it. hee. hee.

I loved his music, but he always seemed a bit "aloof" to me. Does anyone know WHY he changed his name to a symbol? Does anyone know how he came up with the symbol and what it meant? It started as a contract dispute thing with Warner Brothers. That much I know. What the symbol means or anything beyond that, I don't know. Although I saw an interview with him from around that time with (I think) Arsenio Hall? And there was an exchange that went something like this. -This whole symbol thing? What? How? How do I pronounce that? What should I call you?-I'm hoping that you'll call me friend.
