We had a few hours to kill in Florida and the only film to see was the new Mummy film. I really enjoyed the first two. The third one was one of the worst movies I've ever seen in a theater. There were TONS of great ideas.. but a horrible script and a series of lame effects (my brother liked the effects, but for me, none of them were convincing, even in a monster movie context). The writing and acting both were lame and the internal logic of the film (i.e. the set of rules they established in the context of a monster/action movie) were broken constantly and irrationally.. like they were too lazy to say "this character would never do or say that.." or "the physics in our make believe world wouldn't work this way..." etc.

I pretty much give it 2 out of 10.. only because someone else could take some of the clever ideas and make an actual movie out of it. The folks involved on this one sure didn't bother.

Hi Bri!

Sounds like a Bummer...(& BOY have they run Promos alongside The Olympics..usin' the China Tie-In!)

We saw "Tropic Thunder" Preview last nite..no time for a Review Writing yet...but it WAS Funny/Jack Black redeemed himself/a Great Spoof on ALL the 'Nam Flicks, & War Movies in-general. 7 1/2-outta-10, I'd say..."6" sayeth La Femme.

Say "HI" if you get near TampaTown!

Big Guy-Hugs,
Stan

Wow, 2 reviews on both films I've been hesitant to bother with.

First, Brian, even though I haven't seen the movie, just form the trailers and commercials, I couldtell it would be less than worth the money. I loved the first two Mummy movies and in fact, my kids have been watching them over and over and really like them. After seeing the promos for the third, a Chinese Mummy just didn't seem to be something that would be apealing. I can think of several other ways to work in a resurected Chinese Emporer (sp?) than a mummy movie. That alone was a turn off.

Stan, I like Jack Black and Ben Stiller for what their both capable of in a movie. I've heard a lot of bad press on the movie though. It's getting a lot of heat from Special Needs groups for the use of the word "Retard", I think they said 73 times. With so many people having special needs or raising kids with special needs, one would think that alone would be a no-no. I will watch it despite the use of derogatory terms. (I have a 13 year old with autism, so it does bother me when people use words that they don't understand and use them out of context) But, a comedy is a comedy and it's not the first movie to use such a term and I don't think shuld be condemned for one word alone. After all, there are plenty of 4 letter words that so many movies could do without.

Thanks for saving me some money guys!

I started watching the movie and gave up on it after about 20 minutes. It was abysmal and 2 out of 10 is generous in my estimation. Even the acting which was a little cardboardish in the first two Mummy movies doesn't even rate "cardboard" this time.

It is one of the worst big budget movies ever made... probably in the 10 worst of all time.

I liked watching the first 2 Mummy movies too, but I was quite hesitant about the movie since I read the reviews on it didn't look to good. It's one of those movies that I can wait till the DVD comes out to get it.

Don't waste your money on the DVD... if you must watch this, just see it on cable or sattelite. It's that bad.

It sounds like the best feature of this movie is it makes sure there will never be a "Mummy 4."
