Gee, I was HOPING I could tell you how Wonderfully-FUNNY and ENTERTAINING the latest Will Smith Movie, "HANCOCK" is... "Cuz I Love The Guy & all the Neat New Angles he tries..Movie-after-Movie!
Well, it IS Wonderfully Funny, AND Entertaining. What feels WRONG with it is it's like writers Vincent Ngo and Vince Gilligan glued TWO Movies Together, and Mid-Point is where "Movie TWO" interrupts The Humor with a Weird Love Story and Things get Pretty-Deadly-Serious. (Tho just sit in your seat an extra minute during the Credit Roll..& get one more Decent Laugh before ya leave the theater scratchin' your head.)
Speaking of Scratch, this movie's $107.3 "take" since last Wed. Opening makes the 5th #1 Box Office Movie for Will Smith...AND he's the FIRST Star to score EIGHT $100 Mil. Movies in a Row. So "Hancock" managed to put "WALL-E" in 2nd place for America's Movie Watching this week..no small feat!
I DID enjoy watching Hancock (Smith) bouncing off the Baddies early-on, and his Anti-Hero Persona is a Hoot. The Railroad Crossing Near-Victim he saves (at the Cost of the Vic's Car, the Train's Engine & Many a Car-Behind it) turns out to be Jason Bateman's character, a PR-Guy with a newfound need to make Hancock "Respectable"..since Hancock's being sued/on the Police "Wanted List"..for his less-than Heroic "Saves". PR-Guy happens to be married to Charlize Theron...& Sparks Fly as the Unlikely Plotline Fizzles..JMO.
I'm gonna give this Flick a "7-Outta-10" because it IS Entertaining and Funny, but warn ya it's NOT as good as it really shoulda been with this Great Cast, FINE Special Effects, & even Good Music & Directing, the latter by Peter Berg. A POX on whichever Writer came up with "Movie #2" in here, and I recommend ya see WALL-E FIRST if you're looking for mainly LAUGHS.
Will's laughing all the way to the Bank, no matter WHAT I tellya here. But after you've seen it, check back here & tell me what YOUR emotions were After Ya Saw It, OK? LOVED the First Half, kinda Hated the Rest.
Nice Effort, anyways, Will & Cast.
JMO..Keep-or-Sweep-it!
Big Hugs, Stan

Hey Stan-O
Haven't seen it yet, but will admit to being really disappointed in the reviews & the direction it took after "the twist".
The screenplay(originally titled "Tonight he comes") bounced around Hollywood for 10 years before they could figure out what to do with it. The original writer, Vy Vincent Ngo refused to do publicity for it due to what happened with the script...On the other hand, as it was originally written, it would have gotten at least an "R" rating, due to, well, umm...Nevermind.
I'll probably still see it, and maybe having had my expectations lowered will help me to enjoy it for what it is, basically 1at half, great, 2nd half, bleh.....Hey, do ya know any flicks with a bad 1st half & great 2nd half so that I can slip outta one theater and into another so that I get two great halves?

G'Mornin' Bro Bob!
Can't say I do remember any with "Bad 1st Half/Good 2nd Half", probably 'cuz if it STARTS OFF BAD, the critics trash the Whole Deal...heh! Here, it's off to a Good Start, chock fulla very "Human" Anti-Hero in-Action..& he's fairly Shympathetic. THEN..as he become More Hero-Like (Thanks to PR Guy/Attitude Change) one of the 2 writers-involved inserts a Very UN-Likely Love Angle & from then-on, like a junk car, things keep fallin' off on its way to The "Let's TRY to Make It Happy Ending".
I don't mind in the least when Hollywood serves me up Fantasy. But even Fantasy requires ACCEPTABLE Logic. That Logic's like a Rubber Band...stretch it TOO far..it breaks..& won't hold a darn THING after that...when it comes to "Believability".
But, even with that loud mental SNAP midway, it's still Entertaining. Just not as Satisfying as it could've been with a bit more Rewrite. JMO, of course! (DO gotta give Ngo credit for Perseverance...10 years wortha "Rejection" is a LONG time to triumph-over, in any Business!)
Thanks for your Kind Visit, Amigo..& pleaae check back in again after you've viewed it--I'm pretty sure it's gonna serve as "Exhibit A" in film courses for "What Not To Do" midpoint in the Flicks of the future.
Best Wishes & a Big Guy-Hug, Stan

Accidentally erased the Header yesterday, & just the letter 'E" appeared...& I edited the Header Back-to-to Propriety..& it STILL said "E" after I sent back the Edit....
So..bein' Real Careful NOT to mess up the Header today, I'll send this up...so Folks'll realize it's the "HANCOCK" Flick we're talkin' about.
SorrE!
Big Hugs, Stan
