Hi, I'm curious if there will be a JPF Roadtrip out the Northwest way anytime soon. I'd love to go to one!

We did the Northwest in 2003 and probably won't be back up that way until 2008 (assuming we get to the SE and Midwest in 2007). It's also dependent on us deciding on the next awards process and the timing for that. I wish I could be everywhere. I actually mapped out 5 roadtrip routes that would get me to all 48 States and all the southern Canadian provinces in 160 stops but I am not sure my health is good enough to do it. I am frustrated because I used to basically live on the road hanging with thousands of members every year in person, but the last few short trips I took were really hard on me.
So, I may not make it up there soon, but it's not because I dont' want to.

Thank you, Brian! I should still be here in 2008. I'm patient.
It's frustrating to have your health get in the way of things you want to do. I completely understand that. Here's hoping things improve that way for you soon!

Linda, maybe 6 hours. Portland to Seattle is about a 4-hour drive, but it takes a good 2 hours to do the 90 miles between Portland and Garibaldi because the roads are so bad. I have to go be a judge today at a speech tournament my daughter's in in Troutdale, the other side of Portland, and I'm allowing 2-1/2 hours for the 125-mile trip. Hey all
I live in the Salem area and would love to see a JPF road trip out the north west way. I'll be here in 2008 as well hopefully still working on songs an getting ready to start performing.

Glad to see y'all are still here. I am, too. Slightly different location (the new job is about 4-5 hours south of Portland instead of east), but not that much different. Yes, I, too, am still interested in a roadtrip to the Northwest.
Brian, something you might file away for future reference is this area (around Medford, OR) is very culturally active. There is a local songwriters' association, that puts on about 4 shows a month, and several music festivals. You could always end up (potentially) with a good turnout down here.

Brian, I wanted to revive this, 'cause you said "Northwest in 2008," and dang if it isn't 2008.
Couple quick (and sketchy) thoughts on resources. I know there's an active songwriters' association in the Medford-Ashland (OR) area, 'cause I'm in it (and on their Board this year). For active JPFers, I see me, Derek in Salem, and Linda in Seattle, and I've seen a couple of posts by someone in Eugene (OR), I think. I know there's an active Portland (OR) Songwriters Assn. and a Portland folk society, too--I don't know anyone there, and can't tell you how big they are. I assume there's something similar in Seattle (Linda would know). and there's something in Eugene, too--again, no idea how big. Plus, there's a Central Oregon Songwriters group in Bend.
Keep in mind none of these places are in real comfortable proximity to each other. However, I did notice there were people from as far away as Atlanta who came to the JPF thingie in Nashville last year, so it may not matter that much. I think it does help attendance by the uninitiated, though, if it's happening in their hometown, instead of hundreds of miles away.
So... What'cha got planned? I.M.W.T.K...

I will most likely visit Portland and Seattle. We've visited both before and have TONS of members in both cities. (Well over 200 each). Remember, only a small percentage of people ever post on the message boards. In Portland last time we had one of our most interesting and diverse shows ever. Literally everything from a Mariachi Band to Disco to Accordions to Hard Rock to Country to Classical and more.
As for timing, it's really going to depend on the awards stuff. With over a half million songs, I may have to wait until 2009 to hit the Northwest. But if we're ahead of schedule, I may get out on the road for a break. Watch the updates. My health is much improved so that hopefully won't be an issue. I will likely do a Mid South trip (Texas, LA, OK, TN, MS) before I do the West Coast simply because I can pull that off in 2-3 weeks where as a big West Coast trip will take at least 5-6 weeks.

Hi guys, that's good to have an update on that. Be nice to see you whenever you get out here! ....And if you know of a way to get those 200 Seattle JPF'ers together before then... let me know. Linda

Hey, be great if you can make Seattle, if I have enough notice I might be able to come down and take part. It's only a ferry ride away.

Oh, yes. We could have fun with this. Could be one of those situations where the place is a lot quieter once we leave.

I think Scott Andrew has had some events in Seattle in the past. So if folks want to get together there, let him know and perhaps you can set up a gathering there.
As for when I'll be out and about.. I really don't know... between the Music Awards this year and some health issues rearing their ugly heads again on me I may not get out for a while.

Brian, I am dying to help coordinate something like this. What can I do to help? How can I contact Scott? I haven't come across him on the boards since I've been posting (April 08), but read somewhere that he was busy with his music and a cd release? I'm in Tacoma, but attend the Songwriters of the Northwest Guild ( www.songnw.com) meeting, which is held the first Thursday of every month in Kirkland, WA a suberb of Seattle. Let me at 'em...I'll gladly help get the NW presence felt here at JPF. Anyone? Echo, echo? Crickets? Hello? Is this thing on? Oh yeah, and hey Brian, I'm sorry to hear of your health issues. You ok? T

Terrill, I'm here (or "here"--I'm not exactly sure where "here" is). I just don't get out much. (With $4.30 a gallon gas, I can't afford to.) I'm interested in what y'all are doing up there in the Emerald City (does that mean there's a Munchkinland, too? Where?), but I am a six-hour drive away.
I'd do my best to do a roadtrip. Brian, I hope you feel better.

Joe,
If I knew halfway where to start I'd love to reserve the Mandolin Cafe here in Tacoma, WA...and schedule JPF'ers to perform all day and on through the night long. I have no idea who, what, where and when to contact...
Oh Brian...nudge us in the right direction...this could be a blast!
