Hi, folks! I'm the new Assistant Coordinator of the Cleveland chapter of JPF. I'm kind of representing the far West suburbs of Cleveland... ...but I know there are more of us out here. Hey, Todd from Madison, Ohio (Lake County). I'm writing/recording my own music. Mostly Hard Rock/Metal. Tried Country, but it didn't go very well. I'm recording guitar, bass and vocals, unfortunately, no drums or lead guitar. Made my first mp3 this week of a song I recorded last weekend. It's posted in the mp3 Forum if you want to listen. It's called "Bullet With Your Name". http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=481684 [This message has been edited by ToxicBass (edited 02-09-2006).]

Hey guys, my name is Justin, I'm a Kent State student, living in Cuyahoga Falls, and write country lyrics mostly. Don't play any instruments, but would love to meet some folks who do, maybe we could colaborate. You'd think it would be easier to find folks on a college campus, but it's still tough. Anyway, you can find my lyrics if you wanna check them out on Lyric board 3.
Thanks, Justin

Hey Ernie, I checked out your MySpace site, you guys really sound great. Your songs are exactly the syle I write. If you ever come down to the Akron/Cuyahoga Falls area send me an Email. I can get the message out there. Also, do you know about the Rockin' On The River scene here in Cuyahoga Falls? Lots of live music and big crowds on the river front every weekend all summer long. As a songwriter, I would love to see you guys come down here and play. If you're interested or need more info, send me an Email.

Hey Ernie & Justin, There is life after Cleveland. I wrote some Country tunes awhile back. Your welcome to listen. They're below the Alt. stuff. I'm working on a new Rock tune called "Escape From Cleveland". I'll post it when it's finished. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=481684

Hello! I just stumbled across this board today and don't know who's still around... I grew up in Madison and now live in Streetsboro. Anyway, my gal and I have been hosting house concerts in recent months and it's been too fun! We've had Wayne "The Train" Hancock (Hillbilly Swing), Fitzgerald & Beach (Blues) and David Olney (Nashville songwriting genuis). Soon we'll have Jason Ringenberg (Original Roots-Punk Barnstormer) and Jon Dee Graham (Texas Singer/Songwriter). Check out our website... Come to a show! ------------------ Jay Johnson www.honkytonkhouseconcerts.com"if you don't like Hank Williams you can kiss my ass."

Hello Clevelanders!! I live about 40 Southeast of Cleveland. I write lyrics, but not the music. I would love to be able to find someone who could put my words to music. I've placed as a runner up 4 times with the VH1 Song of The Year Contest. I received great feedback from the Song of The Year staff. I am currently teaching myself to play guitar, but I have a ways to go yet. It's a dream and a longshot. I haven't posted any lyrics yet. I will be doing that soon. I look forward to getting to know others in the area.

Greetings Hi Tracy! My name is Guido. I own two small recording studios in town, Almira Sound Studio and ClubHouse Recording. One is for Rock, the other for Rap. I am also a local musician in the band The StingRays. I like the idea of this board. This could be cool...

This board could be really cool. I am trying to start a "community" around my Clubhouse studio. There's a cool little venue down the street... We just need to get our area artists working TOGETHER. We can do it...

Hi Tracy Marie, I met you a few years ago at the roadtrip venue that you helped set up. As I remember, you sang one of your songs and it was a really beautiful ballad. I brought my keyboard and performed a couple of songs too. I have never met Diane Tyler, but I know she lives close to me and is very talented. I saw her once at a library but did not approach her then. I hope to see you both again this year when you have set up the venue. I hosted a Lorain Chapter for a few months in 2001, and then got sick and had to give it up. We managed to join with about eight people from this area in that short time. Let me know if I can be of help and please let me know where the meeting will be. Idamarie Naelitz Iyamkey@aol.com

Hello, I don't know if I'm in the right elevator, but I'm new to Cleveland. I was living in Nashville for 11 years, but I had to move up here because I couldn't stand being away from my kids who are now 13. (Twin boys) So a giant greeting to you from me, and hopefully the other way around. I'd love to start playing out somewhere. I currently have 7 CDs on CDBaby of my own productions. I also have played on lots of big albums for people such as Aretha Franklin, Guster, and John Prine.

Hi, Diana! I've been basically just trying to build my CD business, trying to get work as a trumpet player, and being a father to my 13 year old twin boys. I looked at string basses with one of my sons today. My other son plays guitar, and keyboards. It's really fun playing with them. I'm hoping that turns into something... I'm going down to Nashville tomorrow do play a trust fund gig at Centennial Park w/ Jerry Vinett's band. That is in the Dixieland idiom. I love all kinds of music. I plan on finishing up two CD's in a studio in Cleveland, and releasing them on CDbaby.com soon, as well. I want to play out in coffee houses with piano/vocal kind of configurations, too. I like to entertain. I am dealing with chronic pain, so sometimes I don't feel like I can do anything, but then sometimes, I feel alright, and I can do anything! Thanks for asking. I also wish that this war would end. It's such a waste. Peace to you all!

Hello! I live in eastern Lorain County. I'm mostly a folkie, dabbling occasionally in country-ish stuff and folk-rock. Currently I'm in a musical partnership with my friend Richard in the UK -- we use traditional lyrics from Child ballads and write new music for them as well as writing our own songs. You can hear some of our stuff at www.myspace.com/heathrobinsonfolk. We do it just for fun, since it's a bit difficult to form any kind of working band from two different countries! ;-) We play all the instruments with the exception of some of the percussion, which is digitally reproduced. I've done a few open mics here and there, and would like to meet up with someone locally who shares my affinity for acoustic-based music and play out a bit.

Sorry...I've been away (again). Neil (and anyone else reading this), you may want to get on the NEohioPAL (Northeast Ohio Performing Arts List) free email list. I've gotten several odd jobs there...from playing in pit orchestras for musicals, to doing a few acting gigs...even snagging an ongoing, seasonal part-time office gig. The listings contain theatre audition notices, "musician wanted" ads, "filmmaker seeks free use of your music" (lol) notices, free or reduced tickets to area cultural events, etc. Here's the link to sign up: http://lists.fredsternfeld.com/mailman/listinfo/neohiopalI've found it worthwhile on many levels... You may also want to check out www.artistschair.com. I haven't yet gotten any concrete offers from the site, but you can post your services there using several different profiles. Both sites are free...but it's "good-neighbor policy" to send each a few bucks if you're able.

Welcome, Joellen! I'm in Lorain County, too...as is Ida Mae (I wish you would have introduced yourself at the library that day, Ida Mae!).
I do an occasional get-together with area musicians of the folk mind-set. (It's kind of a sub-set of the E.R. [the "Each-One-Teach-One Room"] that I started at my church several years ago.) When we're not meeting Sunday afternoons at the church, we get together for occasional Friday night jams in peoples' homes. I think our next home jam/potluck will be early Fall, probably in Rocky River. Shoot me a reply (or email me: diana@dianatyler.com) if you're interested. (This applies to ANY musicians reading this.)
There are also several open mic opportunities in the Cleveland area if you're so inclined...?

Hi Tracey & Diana & Cleveland JPFers! I just got a Peek at Brian's Chapter Photos..& there the Cleveland Folks were! Which created a wee-bitta Nostalgia for me..I've sorta been a Cleveland-Area-Expatriot since 1968.. Cleveland-Born (In the Dark Age of 1945), I had Elementary Schoolin' at East Clark..then moved to Parma. Moved again to Berea, Jr Hi thru Berea High, then College at Wooster..Art Degree, 1967. WOULD'VE been a Cartoonist at Hi-Brows Cards downtown, BUT the US Army had diffo plans..(& I ended up Cartooning anyways, in Pleiky, RVN.) Survived that year & hitchhiked to The Pentagon, got orders changed so I'd do last yr & a half Overseas rather'n be a Nam Vet in the US. Lived in Europe the next 5 yrs..Heidelberg GY and SHAPE Belgium, returned to Sunny Florida in '73..(Scuba diving was LOTS warmer here than in Lake Erie, lemmie tellyas!) Anyways..my Half-Sis Laura Berger STILL lives in Medina, so I still feel like I got OHIO Roots! (& my Cousin Joyce Good still lives in Wooster, not far from the Former Family Farm in Pleasant Home...so guess I sure DO!) I've penned MANY a Lyric over the years, recorded 6 CDs that are at < www.CDBaby.com/TampaStan>, & am always looking for That Ultimate Co-Writer (Elton John hadda advertise for Bernie Taupin..& maybe I should've tried OHIO a Long Time SOONER, eh?) IdaMarie & I have one together, "Yeah, God's Like That", that's been "on hold" over a year now with the Oak Ridge Boys. (Reggae!) I just penned a POLKA ("The KNEE-POPPIN' POLKA") that's on Lyrics Feedback Board 3..today..& I'm sure SOMEONE in Cleveland Area has Enough Polish in their Blood and can do Justice to the MUSIC on this Baby? Many Another Jimmy-Buffett-Flavored Lyric sits at LB3 awaiting Guitar & Piano Help... Lookin' forwards to hearin' from some of ya Cleveland Bretheren down the pike (Via PM here...I'm WAY behind on emails at my E-addy) &..if you're ever Slummin' Down Tampa FL way, be sure to stop in & say O-HIA! Big Hugs, Stan Good Songwriter, etc.

Hello Tracy, Diana, and all other Cleveland JPF members.
I posted this as a new topic yesterday in the forum then today noticed this topic so figure I'd add it here. Below this is the previous post verbatim so if you read it, there's no need to go further. Hope to meet some of you local folks soon and get some honest feedback on everything from lyrics, sound, presentation, performance, etc. Thanks in advance.
I'm David Nicholson, a new memeber of JustPlainFolks. I live in Northern Ohio, Richfield to be exact. Half way between Cleveland and Akron off I-77. I've notice a Cleveland and Columbus chapter and figure since I'm WAY closer to Cleveland that by default, I'd be a member of the Cleveland Chapter. In addition to playing guitar I also diddle around a little on the mandolin and play 5 string banjo in the three finger Scruggs style. The banjo was actually my first instrument, but being a teenager in Cleveland, it was difficult to find many bluegrass pickers in my neighborhood, so that soon fell away to guitar.
I'm a member of the Summit County Songwriters Circle and have had great responce and constructive criticism from these folks but am always looking for more insight, not only in the writing and production catigory, but on aquiring gigs. I took a ten year hiatus in the late 80's, early 90's while raising children and when I got back into it, I found it hard to believe that to sing a song in a bar any more you needed a web site, pager, agent, press kit, mailing list, etc. to get a gig anymore. What has happened?
Anyway, here I am, that's my story. Feel free to click on over to my links below and let me know what you think. Any and all input would be greatly appreciated. Especially on the subject of additional production of some of my existing songs. If you hear a great place for a break, or maybe even a 30 piece string arrangement in the back of one of them, please don't hesitate to let me know what you think. And again, any insight on what it takes to get a gig in the Cleveland/Akron area would be great.
Thanks again and hope to see some of you out there.
Are there any chapter events? And if so are they posted in this location?

Hi, David. Good to meet you. It *seems* more complicated now than it used to be, but I've found that making connections with local musicians, frequently hitting the open mics in your area, and other "connection" skills go a long way towards getting those gigs. (Unfortunately, life doesn't always allow me time to follow my own advice, but I AM planning to check out some local open mics again this year.) A website (even if only on MySpace) IS a helpful tool... Your being involved with the Summit County Songwriters is a good thing. We have common friends in Jim Dime, Terry (last name currently escapes me), Chuck Pickelsimer, and probably a few others. I'm West-Side based, so I hang with the Northeast Ohio Songwriters Association. We now meet the 2nd Tuesday of each month at Zeleznik's Tavern, on Harvard/Jennings, near Steelyard Commons. All are welcome! BTW, I'll mention this so she won't have to: Cleveland Chapter Co-Leader and co-moderator of this Board--Tracy Marie--has been nominated as "Best of Cleveland Vocalist" in the 2008 Cleveland Free Times awards. You can vote for her at www.freetimes.com . Way to go, Tracy! Also, if any of you are near Streetsboro, I'm doing a Honky Tonk House Concert there this Saturday at 7 p.m. Call 330-626-2961 for the address and complete information (reservations are necessary).
