I liked this Flick. My Wife didn't. (But then, she NEVER watches football games on TV like I often do.)
With that in-mind (& bearing-in-mind I've sat thru a LOT of "Chick-Flicks" already this year to make HER happy) I highly-recommend Actor-Director George Clooney's "LEATHERHEADS" to Anyone Who Enjoys FOOTBALL..(Guys AND Gals!)
It's also an enjoyable flick for folks who like The Roaring 20's & Vintage Cars, Motorcycles, Trains & even Stadiums..LOTS of those in here, too! Also some fine WW1 Action, classic Bar Fights, & one of the finest man-on-man Fistfights on Celluloid, the trailer's Clooney (Dodge Connelly) vs John Krasinski (War-Hero Carter Rutherford), partly over Rene Zellwigger's Lexie Littleton, Cub-Reporter who's uncovering a Big Secret that might just torpedo all of Pro Football's "Comeback" Efforts.
By Film's Near-End, all-3 Characters are facing the End of Their Careers...after ya see the Muddiest Game on-Film Records..IMO. There's a newly-appointed (by Congress!) Football Commisioner..LOTSA New RULES..even to the Pre-Game Coin Toss...(!) WILL Pro Football Survive? Will Lexie lose her job? Will the truth be Out on Rutherford's Wartime "Heroics"?
Will you Enjoy This Movie? I'd bet a "7 1/2-Outta-10" you will...(& maybe kick-in an Extra Point if you're a serious Clooney or Early Football Fan!)
JMO...Keep-or-Sweepit!
Big Hugs, Stan

Dunno what to say next... I, as a Guy, Enjoyed This Flick. Wife, as a Gal, Didn't. But..you either Like Football or ya Don't. AND..ya either like Old Stuff or ya don't. Ditto for George Clooney... (I think EVERYONE Likes Rene?) Krasinski was Great in His Role...& it's a nice Stretch from "The Office"!
I'd spend the loot on this Baby LOTS-sooner than on that Romanian Film I just Mildly-Defended..probably 'cuz I like Fun WAY more'n' being harpooned between-the-eyes on The Abortion Issue.
WISH all "Fight Scenes" could end up like this one does...it's SO realistic!!!
So..see it on Cable...& See if we agree, it's a FUN Flick!
Big Guy-Hug, Stan

I played college football, so I think I'd qualify as a football fan. (We watched every Colts game for 7 weeks in Europe via the Internet). It just looked a little stiff and schmaltzy to me in the interviews and previews I've seen. I like George Clooney (I don't watch the Office, so I don't know the other guy). I think it's been a really week year so far for movies.

HI Again, Guys!
I'm more a Baseball & Track kinda guy..BUT this WAS an Enjoyable Sports-Centered Movie. There's a Not-On-The-Trailer "Locals vs Army Guys" Bar Fight that, alone, was worth the price of admission, JMO... There's also a HILARIOUS Suicide Scene...involving Clooney & Zellwigger..that I think Clooney directed (& probably Wrote-In) Very Well-Indeed.
Clooney re-wrote "ALL but two scenes" in the Flick...Screenwriters Guild denied him Writing Credit..so he just resigned from the Organization.
SOME of what's here IS on the Schmaltzy Side..but not (JMO) to the point of being "cloying." I think everybody Breathin' Today looks at the 1920's Era thru Nostalgic Glasses..just like future generations'll all look back at the '60's. I found the Romance Angle to be maybe the Weakest part of this Flick, but I'll let you guys be the Judge..& Jury:
Here's the Deal, Gents: Go See The Flick...& IF ya think I gave ya a Bum Steer, I'll refund your ticket price.
I base ALL my calls on "Viewability"...i.e. WAS it ENTERTAINING? Yep, it's NICE if I learn a Little History & See The Sights Along The Way..BUT Was I ENTERTAINED? DID it pull me into their world & take me away from my Day-to-Day for those 2 I-HOPE-Enjoyable Hours..or NOT?
LEATHERHEADS Did...hence my willingness to put my money where my mouth is..if only Just This Once..heh-heh!
Best Wishes & a Big Guy-Hug Backatchas! Stan
