THRILLS, EXCITEMENT, INTRIGUE!
IF You're an Action-Junkie, VANTAGE POINT not only provides "The Big 3", it feeds you a STEADY Diet of it, Start-to-Final-Breath-Catching Finish!
IF You've Seen The Trailer, you've actually seen MOST of What This Movie's "About". BUT..Director Pete Travis takes you through FLASHBACK after FLASHBACK..to get to the REAL Story (All's well-written by Barry Levy)..of a Group of Terrorists in-Action.
Filmed both in Mexico & Spain's Salamonica Town Square, "Lucio's Square"...it opens with News Director Rex Brooks (Sigorney Weaver) cuing Cameras & On-The-Scene Reporters, from a nearby Control Room. Peace is about to Bloom as Middle Eastern Representatives all get-together to make it Tough on Terrorists. The Town Mayor welcomes everybody..then it's the President of the United State's turn to Welcome Everyone, as he faces a crowd of Thousands of Cheering Locals & Onlookers.
Guarding The President (William Hurt, as President Ashton) is our Secret Service..& among their Higher-Ups is Dennis Quaid, as Agent Thomas Barnes. (Barnes is Particularly-Edgy, having just-recovered from taking a Bullet earlier in the year for The Commander-in-Chief.)
In the crowd below, Meanwhile, American Tourist (Forest Whitaker as) Howard Lewis has been aiming his Sony Handycam all over the place, recording his Impressions of the Historical Moment unfolding in front of him. Then Suddenly....
Two GUNSHOTS..President Ashton Falls..PANDEMONIUM..An EXPLOSION Outside..then ANOTHER, Inside the Courtyard. (What NEXT???)
"WHO, HOW, WHY, WHAT & WHERE-TO" then get Painstakingly-Unfolded as Director Travis skillfully hits the "REWIND" Button, Numerous Times, Visiting the Secretive People-Involved in QUITE an Ambitious Anti-US Terror Crime.
The Movie'll make you REAL Glad we HAVE so many Dedicated Folks working for our Secret Service. It does cast a Skeptical Eye on What the Media TELLS Us today, vs What They KNOW is Happening.
So, maybe Pop-a-Dramamine & Get-Ready for an Eventual LONG Seat-of-Your-Pants Car-Chase (& LOTS of Shoot-'Em-Uppery) on its way to a Close-Call "Nail-biting-Finish".
Let's give it an "8-Outta-10" for a Fine Adrenalin-Rush of a Film. It's, of course, Violent-Enough, so leave kids at-home, & prepare for Unexpected Flashbacks..(Even after this Surprise-Filled Movie's OVER!)
JMO...Keep-or-Sweep-it!
Big Hugs, Stan

Thanks for the review,
It's gotten mixed reviews for the most part. I may have to wait for it to come out on cable.

I'll alway rate "Something Different" a bit Higher than Something I feel's been "Done Before".
This one's on the "Different Side"...takes SOME Getting Used To...& Not Everybody'll enjoy that part of The Ride. (Reminded me a Wee Bit of "Groundhog Day"...on Steroids.)
NOT much Humor to be had, tho...since this IS an Assasination Flick.
Best Wishes, Stan
