Guys AREN'T supposed to cry at movies, but as the last reel ran thru the projector, I hadda Wipe One from the corner of my eye.
Yeah, a Real Tear. It was THAT "Touching" a Comedy-Romance Flick.
This Unexpected Moisture was due to Brilliant Writing/Directing by Adam Brooks, Superb Casting, and (Here's where I got Sucker-Punched) Wonderful Acting by ALL, especially its 11-year-old Child Star, Abigail Breslin, as Maya Hayes. Maya's the Daughter of Will Hayes, also Excellently-Acted, by Ryan Renolds..& is Asking Questions about MOM. Dad's JUST been served Divorce Papers from Whomever Mom IS...& hasn't-yet told Maya The Whole Story about How She Came To Be.
So, like peeling an Onion, Dad begins the Whole, Somewhat Sad, Oftentimes Humorous, & Always INTERESTING Story, of his rise from Idealistic College Grad, leaving College Love Emily (Elizabeth Banks) behind, & heading off to NYC to work on the Clinton Presidential Campaign. ANY of the Loves-that-Followed COULD have been "Mom".
You'll see how Dad changes from Idealistic Campaign-Worker to Grown-Up Political Consultant..with a really HUMOROUS Vignette of CLINTON jogging thru Central Park that says more about "Political Reality" than any Candidates' Debate, JMO.
Along the way, Will meets April, an Intelligent-Hottie Hippie-Chick working apolitically on the Copy Machine. (She's not so much into Politics as she is into "Causes".) He also meets Kelly,(Liane Balaban) a Fetching Up-&-Coming Magazine Journalist, who does things for his Career and Libido.
But Who IS Mom? See this movie for a lot of fun, heartbreak, and bring a hanky for the Hollywood Ending. Let's give it a "9-outta-10"..& before I forget, HATS OFF to Musical Director Clint Mansell for some EXCELLENT "Period Hit-Music" that opens with Sly's "EVERYDAY PEOPLE" & cruises ya through 3+ Decades-Worth of Great Stuff, in-Sync with the Plotline, with some Excellent Background New-Compositions, too. 2 Hours of GREAT Entertainment, & I hope you see it!
JMO, Keep or Sweepit, Big Hugs, Stan

G'Mornin' Mz Penny!
Yeah..that was Such a Sad-yet-Happy Ending! I think movies like this kinda Highlight the diffo between Youthful Idealism and Later-in-Life Realism...that Our Original Goals in Life get slowly altered with Time & Circumstances.
And the Coolest Part is we can STILL Live Happily-Ever-After.
Glad Ya Saw It & Liked It...& Thanks for adding some Feedback here, Kind Lady!
Big Hugs, Stan

"Money is worst reason to be motivated NOT to do anything. Instead of letting those concerns STOP you, use it to motivate yourself to find an alternate solution that bypasses money. You will soon find that your own resourcefulness is worth far more than a pile of paper money." –Brian Austin Whitney
