Hi Snake and Bob:
I'm gonna try to get one of my songs performed by somebody that counts. With luck, I'll try to write and record 50 new songs before the end of 2008. (Demos by me.)
Who knows, maybe all of us will get plugged-into the money stream via our songwriting this year.
All my best,
DLR

I'd be thrilled if I could get one song finished and demoed! And find a co-writer that I could work with.

My big push is to FINALLY finish that 3rd novel I've been threatening to complete for 2 years now. I have to get it done, for real this time. And then find a publisher to bring it out or figure out a good POD self-pub option. (Probably www.lulu.com, they look pretty decent.) I also want to go to Pineyfest and the LDStorymakers Writers Conference this year - if schedule & budget allows. I hope to have another song or two ready to hand to the Demo Derby. Beyond that I'm not sure. I'm sending my oldest child off to college in the fall and that has me biting my nails. Thanks for asking! Good thread! Linda

I'm hoping that by the end of the year I'll be well on my way to personal success without a real job. I'm also hoping I'll get at least one contract for composing for a computer game, and I'm pretty sure I'll be a fine banjo player by then. Those are my goals.

I'll spend the year focused on becoming a better player, singer, writer, and performer, and hope that by year's end I will be able to quit my job and earn a respectable living performing.
If you're just going to fan the flame, piss on it!

Hi Snake,
This year I am coordinating the Australian Songwriters Conference in June, so that's where most of my energies are going at the moment. I'm also writing for a greeting card company and I'm currently involved in two songwriting collaborations and hopefully will have more of those throughout the year too. I aim to attend the Kauai Music Festival in August and then head back to Nashville and possibly New York later in the year.
What are your plans for the year, Snake?

Oh, me?
I don't know yet, but I will tell you what I WANT to do.....
Either move (back?)out to San Diego, or (possibly?) take a trip to Spain to meet some friends there, and just to see the country....
Beyond that? Who knows....

Rework a couple of my tunes that are considered the best of my rest now that I have better means to mix and have a little more of an idea about songcraft. And also make an album length set of songs for a cd. But resolutions tend to backfire. If someone wants to quit doing a bad habit, then they are going to do it and have their mind set on it. Music is more concrete, because anyone that wants to move with it has some type of plan in place to begin with. Or should.
But resolutions? Just about everyone I know of that has said they are going to give up smoke or drink do it more. It reminds me of confessions. The more the vices are thought of the more temptious it becomes. I said I would'nt smoke once and I wound up chain smoking. But I vowed to cut down when I had odd flip flop feelings in my heart. I have cut drastically down on smoking. Not that I am trying to ignite moralism or a temperest outcry on it. If the people who hated smoking so much had the same attitude about promiscous sex, there would'nt be an aids problem.

1) Write, write, write. 2) Play, play, play. 3) Remember how to sleep. 4) Live fully in every moment (as best I can).
Love to all, Ken

Well, I'm going to Laugh, Tell Jokes, listen to Bing sing. (Make that Webb). More seriously, look for places to pitch my songs. Maybe I'll visit my PRO in Nashville.

I just joined Taxi on New Year's Eve and I expect to have at least one paid use of one of my songs. I will resume paid live solo performances. I will release my solo CD and sell it in person, on CD Baby and some songs by download. This will be a good year.

I wanna put a band together, but you know how that kind of sh*t goes.........

Going to take Mike's advice and start working on building a team. Then I'll see where to go after that.

Play Salt Lake City, Lake Tahoe, and finally do the recording I started last year with the people who said they'd contribute... even if I have to hold a guitar to their heads.

I would like to write more songs and finish recording my cd and hopefully get a band together. I'm a horse lover at heart, I owned a Mustang for 13 years but had to give her up 8 years ago and I never got over it. So I am planning to buy an Arabian and get involved in showing horses.

I'm not keeping count, but
I'm gonna write a hundred songs this year. Good, bad, whatever, I'm just gonna let 'em fly. I should be more ambitious because i'm nearly 25% there.
I'm gonna do more collaboration. It's getting easier to find folk to write with and I have to find more time to focus.
I'm going to learn to read so I can figure out what the hell I'm doing.

I'm hoping that all works out for me, then I can get a djembe and play my own drum at the circle this spring...yeeehaa.
Spend time and --gulp!---money getting the demo project shopped and pitched around town here...
Move into a house somewhere (somehow?) nice and quiet, and as far from downtown as I can get, and stay within reasonable rent.
Visit my dear sweet friend in Vegas......(shed my skin?!?!?!)
And, most of all, keep trying to love and be loved in return.

First, I'm really hoping my song, If Only For Today (co-written with Leslie Bowe and Geoff Thurman) ends up as a finalist in the Tipperary Peace Song Contest in Ireland. If so, Les and I will be traveling there in April where he will perform it. Keeping my fingers crossed!
Second, I'm working on two new books, and hope to get another book contract before the end of the year.
Third, I want to see one of my songs find the perfect home. I figure if one of them grabs somebody's attention...there's hope for others!
Fourth, I want to continue to help Leslie further his musical career. I keep telling him the only reason I'm doing it is because I want my future grandchildren to have a backyard!
Fifth, I want more quality time with the grandchildren I already have (eleven of them!), especially my first-born, Tyler, who is now living in Los Angeles. I've helped to raise him since he was born and he's now going on 12. I miss him terribly.

I'd like to remain in the present and take each day at a time. Time is like a river and in that river there are many different veins ahead. Depending on the flow, I really can't say which way I'll go. I can say that no matter what happens, I'll keep swimming and hope that I end up with the destination I was shooting for.

Musically- I have some pretty lofty goals. I am going to stay in hot pursuit of my first cut with a major. To do this I will need to continue expanding my network of industry contacts, continue to learn and write more marketable songs, stay on the front edge curve of market writing trends, expand my co-writes to include some hit writers along the way. Play some more festivals,we have one booked for late spring, there's just no replacing the energy from a large live crowd. I seem to have no problem writing 10-12 songs a month, the goal is to have more really quality songs in the mix so I can do another cd by the end of the year, it will be my 3rd. I also have met the qualifications and will become a voting member for the Grammy awards this year. I will also attend a few music conferences, and I really hope things pick up financially so I can go to Tin Pan in April. Love- I will continue to adore my wife and kids, I'm quite a lucky guy in that regard, I have a really supportive family who enrich my life and surround me with beautiful people on a daily basis. Life- Money permitting I'd like to do some traveling. I really don't care if it's to the snow, or to the islands, just hope I get the chance to get the heck outta Dodge for a while. We both have parents who are getting up there in years and alot of docs for this and that so we will try and enjoy them as much as possible too. Work- I run a small business as my day gig and hope things pick up soon, it is a remodeling related business and construction has suffered nationwide. I ain't whining, but it happens to be the vehicle where I get the $ to do all my pro demos, get the songs plugged, travel to industry events, and the travels with my wife/ and sometimes kids when $ allow, so aside from paying for our lifestyle, I hope I can keep up the payments on my dreams...ha
I am really enthusiastic about the possibilities for this year. There has been a great deal of interest in my music, I am writing with people from all over the country and it's really a rewarding, interesting process that I intend to stay involved in at a high level...
thanks for asking
write great, be well...Moker

Health! period.
I'm gonna figure out what's been wrong with me for 11 years and fix it or learn to finally accept it and live with it.
I have learned the old health saying is true, nothing matters without it.

My goals for 2008 is get more involved in the community, work more efficiently, stop getting older and to become a better lyric writer. If I can accomplish 3 out of the 4, I'll be happy.
"Grits is one of those country-boy words that is both singular and plural-like deer, elk and sheep. I think the singular is appropriate when there's a modifier that makes it clear one is talking about something specific. Like, 'Grits are good for you, but these here grits is tasty.'"~~Joe Wrabek
