It's always fun to watch a movie where you went into it Without High Expectations & you come out Well-Entertained.
Such was the case with "Over Her Dead Body", starring Eva Longoria (Married in France last Summer) Parker..as Kate. Kate's busily-preparing for a Swanky Cinematic Wedding Party in the Opening Shots...but has a row with the Ice Sculptor (Steven Root) which leads to her "Untimely End" right at the Start. Root later ends up Also-Deceased..a Ghostly "Soul-Mate"..as both try to figure out why they're "Halfway-to-Heaven" for the rest of the flick.
Bereaved Almost-Hubby Henry (Paul Rudd) gets steered by his sister (Lindsay Sloane as Chloe) into a visit with Would-Be Psychic Ashley (Well-Done by Lake Bell). Chloe's desire to get her bro out of his funk means she sneaks his Diary to the "Psychic" for further plotline complications..(& succeeds Admirably!)
The Seances turn More-Serious, as Henry begins falling for Ashley. It's around this time that she REALLY begins seeing the Wandering (& Very Meddlesome) Spirit of Kate...
While the Trailers HAVE given-away some of the Best Scenes, it WAS quite enjoyable viewing, Start to Interesting Finish. While Longoria "Lives" Up To Expectations, it's Lake Bell, IMO, who steals the show, going from Fake Psychic to Loveable, Vulnerable Girl-Next-Door by Movie's End. (BOTH Gals are masters of Comic Timing, I'll add!) Paul Rudd's a HOOT as a Skeptic on Psychic Matters. Jason Biggs plays Kate's Gay Roomie, Dan, for additional laughs..succeeding exceedingly-well with his "One Unforgettable Line" here..(Bound to end up printed on an AMC Carpet someday..you watch!)
Jeff Lowell's Writing/Directing Job pulls it all off, with a Memorable Ending that first Misted-Me-Up (as few do) and then sent me off to the parking lot with one last really good Belly Laugh!
I'd rate this Yet-Another "6 1/2-to-7-outta-10" Gal Flick, I well-enjoyed. (Either I'm slipping, or Hollywood's doing Something RIGHT these days!)
JMO, Keep-or-Sweep!
Big Hugs, Stan

This looked like one of the worst movies ever. Was it really a 6.5-7?

It's Lake Bell who really Pushes this Baby beyond a mere "5"..but she worked her butt off (& it's not a Bad-Lookin' Butt on Either of the 2 Central Babes here, I'll give 'em Their Due!)
Of course, like I opened with, I WASN'T expectin' much, & yep, the Babes DE-Livered a Fun Evening..& I always DID like "Surprises~!"
Best Wishes & a Big Guy-Hug, Stan

"Money is worst reason to be motivated NOT to do anything. Instead of letting those concerns STOP you, use it to motivate yourself to find an alternate solution that bypasses money. You will soon find that your own resourcefulness is worth far more than a pile of paper money." –Brian Austin Whitney
