Waal, La Femme & I went to the Local AMC to see "Bucket List", only to find a "2 Hour Wait" ahead... So, The Manager kindly let us swap tix for Disney's "NATIONAL TREASURE: 'BOOK OF SECRETS'"..with Previous Version's Star, Nicholas Cage, leading us Again on a Treasure Hunt, after only a 15 Minute Wait!
What ensued was Director John Turtletaub & Crew bringing us along on an Americanized Edition of "Raiders of The Lost Ark"-meets-"Da Vinci Code"-meets-"Tomb Raider."
Which ISN'T to say it's "ALL Bad"..just that it's Prettymuch "All Been Done.Before". (And you KNOW how Hollywood LOVES the "Safety-of-a-Sequel"..)
I'd rate it a "6 1/2-to-7-Outta-10" for a fine "Let's Go Somewhere After Dinner" kinda Movie. It's often-enough Exciting, gets you inside a LOT of Washington's Monumental Edifices, (After a peek at, I think it's Buckingham Palace in London), AND ya get to Swing on some 300-400-yr old Vines inside a Pre-Columbian Gold-Clad Missing City near Mt Rushmore before digesting dinner, too!
Cage reprises his Ben Gates roll well, Justin Bartha believably (somehow) plays Computer Whiz-kid Riley Poole, fetching German Beauty Diane Kruger is Nicely-Aboard as Cage/Gates' estranged Wife, Abigail; Ed Harris does a good, reformable-Villain, & Jon Voight & Helen Mirren shine as Cage's Also-Estranged Professorial Parents, too.
Even with the Fine Acting, & Filming, about the Only Thing "New" here is the Beer Truck doing The Chase Scene..(Which WAS Great FUN!)..but I went there to be "Adequately-Entertained..on Short Notice"..and I Was.
"KUDOS" to Disney's Set Directors (Most Locales are Very-Believable!)..AND to WHOEVER-at-Disney came up with the "GOOFY" Cartoon that unexpectedly Precedes The Main Feature. (It's on "The Joys of setting up your Own 'Home Entertainment Center'"..which (Seriously, Folks) rates "A 10-outta-10!" (Never has a Chainsaw been FUNNIER!)
JMO..(Keep-or-Sweep-it!)
Big Hugs, Stan

I was thinking of seeing this in the theater. I liked the first one as a mindless but fun silly adventure flick. I heard this one wasn't as good as that one though.

It's not as good as The Original...BUT we suckers'll always get in there for The Sequil, & OFTEN-Enough, yep, it's a Dismal Evening.
BUT this one was Better'n TV..(Which is where "5-outta-10" comes in..heh-heh...it's Coin-Tossin' Time!) ;-)> Money WAS Spent..as was a lotta TIME..to get this Baby Up-to-Expectations...& it WAS Likeable. (& I'm not Kiddin'...seein' a Pre-Movie Cartoon REALLY did put me into a Good Movie-Viewin' Frame of Mind!)
So..see it At the Theater..or you'll prolly MISS the Cartoon! ;-)>
Best Wishes Amigo, Stan

Yeah, we've been to a few "Near-Private-Screenings" too...(I allus kinda Pity the Theater...dunno how much each screening of a movie costs..but getting Carbon to Arc in the Projector takes some Serious Electricity Bills, I am sure!)
But..with Popcorn running about $6+ or - a bit per-bag-sold, & costs 'em prolly 50 cents + or -, I assume they catch up...or go under.
Folks DO still go to Movies in a Recession....for "Escape"...& that $10-30 Mil on "Opening Weekend" is not exactly Small Change coming back in...heh!
Best Wishes & Big Hugs, Stan
