Thanks Ray.
yep. I know it is said God said that.
But did he?
Could he even?
I need to see it for myself.
Anybody got a link to the tablets of stone so I can read it for myself?
Good golly.
Now we have moved on to sanctifying bent genders.
It seems this thread is destined to be just one more thing after another.

No I didn't Ray.
I hope you got the same in mine.
Funnily enough, there is a sort of related thread over on Blindman's and this is what I wrote in the box toward that, and am now off to noise it.
Graham
I've made my coffin, and I have paid.
For the hole I am going to be laid in.
I've left instructions in my will.
As to how to bury me.

I've said when I'm dead.
Don't bother with prayers or eulogy.
I don't believe in heaven or hell.
And I'll have had my eternity.

Chorus.
I believe I'm a souless man
And when I'm dead, I'm dead.
And in my lifetime I have heard.
Enough tall stories said.
So don't waste time or money.
Making a circus out of burying me.
Just put me in a box, drop me in a hole.
'Cause I believe I'm a souless man.
Instrumental.

Now I don't mind if you celebrate.
My life and memory.
Or even gather at the cemetry
To have one last drink on me.
But I do ask that when doing so.
You all try to behave.
And don't pass it through your kidneys.
Before pouring any on my grave.

Of course not. I was speaking only about those who have expressed such things on this thread. Also, being a believer myself, I think I am at least somewhat qualified to speak for believers. On the other hand, Everett, who has said that he is a Christian, attempted to say what atheists think. I don't think he has any standing to do that.

I think the mortality of today's youth is about the same as their parents--70 years or so. Of course, those who live a very healthy lifestyle have the chance to live much longer, and those who do not...

What? Huh? Oh...MORALITY.

Nevermind.

For Pete's sake.
Just because the name you are using is Richard you don't have to behave like a Dick Bloke.
You don't like me responding to whatever I want to, don't post.
It would be helpful to know what has got you in this condition.
Feel free to IM me with an explanation so I can maybe correct any valid fasult, but it is your problem at the moment as I see it.
And well said Trueman.

I don't know about Morality...but this danged thread seems to have Eternal Mortality! Would someone please inscribe the final post to this thread on my tombstone? I am almost 61 years old. So, I figure that I have another 15-25 years to live. I seriously doubt this will end by then. I'll make sure the engraver leaves a HUGE blank spot on the stone for you. Thanks in advance.

Richard and I just did A.K.A.
Didn't you feel the healing vibe flow through you as you read that one.
G'day Al.
Young blokes like you don't need to worry about tombstones and such.
By the time you have done your three score and ten we will have no room for such thing on earth wecause of g;obal warming, we will have so little dry ground left to live on, let alone be buried in.
Probably have a rendering plant turning all available protein into fish food for the Tuna farms.
A bloke of your age should have some idea of morality.
Maybe asking your kids for some advice would help.
I asked my kids for some advice once and they were only too happy to tell me where to go.

HiDee Richard.

Hmmmm...that's an awful "Me-Centered" Prayer there. I'm more a believer in Karma...so I'd be inclined to pray "What can I do to help Someone ELSE today"..& let the "Good Effects" trickle back..whenever they've been earned.

WAS a recent Scientifically-Conducted study on Results of Praying.
Cure-Rate was parallel to the Non-Prayed-for Control Group, alas. BUT you can argue it woulda been a Worse Outcome had the prayers NOT been offered, I guess.

"Positive Thinking" DOES generate Better Results. "Mindset" it's called. The diffo between "Half Full" & "Half Empty" is the difference between Optimism & Pessimism. &, of course, if you've got a Dour Outlook, ya haven't got a Prayer! ;-)>

Oh ye of little faith. Not addressed to anyone in particular, just quoting the bible, that book of fables. So far three beliefs stand out on this thread for what happens after you die. 1. Your dead, that's it, there is no more, 2 you are reborn many times over, reincarnation, 3.The resurrection and judgement. Pick your choice, I choose #3, if I am wrong and there is no God, no life after death, I've lost nothing and you won't even get a chance to say,"see we told you so", but if I am right and you are wrong, I might get a chance to say it to you, but I'll take no pleasure in saying it.

Someone made a remark about one God, yes there is one true God, God is made up of three entities, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. The Trinity, maybe hard to understand how one God could be three separate persons, but think of water, it can have three different shapes, ice(solid) water(liquid) steam (vapour).

This world was made in six days and on the seventh day God rested. Now the bible also said that to God a day is as a thousand years and a thousand years is as a day, God does not measure time as we do, therefore this world could be millions of years old.

If you choose not to believe, that is your right, if I choose to believe, that is my right. I can't convince you and you can't convince me, let's leave it at that, only time will tell who is right, so I'll see you at the judgement. LOL

I think threads like this are good measures of ourselves. How do we behave when our deeply held beliefs are questioned? Do we demonstrate the kind of behavior we expect from others?

It's sort of a behavioral acid test, these threads. Irresistible, too, aren't they?

That is quite profound Lyle.
I think I'll go write a song about it.
Hey Jim.
It is Everett's thread so he can give the sermon on the mount if he wants to.
What is a mountain of, and what it will amount to is all a matter of opinhion I guess.
But that is what forums are there for after all.
And I thought what he said was funny anyway.
Now come on.
There has to be just one more thing we can squeeze into this string.

Maybe there needs to be a forum for people to post evidence that God exists and a forum for people to post evidence that God does not exist. Then those in doubt could just consult the appropriate forum and the rest of us could talk about songwriting, which is what I initially believed to be the purpose for this site.

This thread is moot anyway because the original premise is flawed. Morality did not go out of fashion when they forced God out of schools. No one has ever forced God out of schools. Kids can pray to their hearts' content in schools. They're just not forced to pray in schools. Lets all try to remember this is the United States of America, not the United States of Christians.

It was the stated opinion of the post owner Richard, and that is what we are debating.
With just one more thing thrown in here and there.
I think that is in line with what forums do.
Talking about life's experience and opinions is a major ingredient in songwriting, so I think threadfs like this are to be expected, and indeed hoped for in a creative society such as i see JPF.
Hey Lyle.
You sure about that?
I though Bill Gates had controlling interest in it.

If I do it will be of my own choosing Richard.
And I thought we had kissed and made up too.
Darn.
I am shattered.
And I have a lot to say toward your busking thread as soon as I finish recording my latest demo too.
Get yourself ready.
I believe it will be quite enlightening.

Thanks goodness Richard. I thought I may have dreamed it.
Okay.
And who knows? If your proposed musical carreer takes off you could becoe a Rich instead.
I'm jealous as no matter what I do, I can only be grey and a ham.
The fun lyric i wrote up above is now a noise, and on soundclick for anybody interested.
It is one I have penciled in as one of my busking songs, and as such, is a rare one of me with just guitar and harmonica.
A good example of why I don't often popst anything that relies on guitar to survive.
I believe it is called now.
See. Someone nearly always gets something out of just about every thread.
And that can be a good or bad thing depending on individual opinions.

Ummmm - I think Everett started this post based on a TV show in Canada and you've been trading barbs with a bloke from down under... (who incidently has been around here for seven years and isn't likely to be going away soon)

Back to the original premise (since I'm too lazy to read the eight pages of posts in between), the assumption that all the kids and schools are morally bankrupt like the ones who were portrayed on the TV show may be the problem. I know a whole lot of high school kids who seem to have their moral compass screwed on just fine. Some go to church, some don't.

Your point is well-taken. However, please note that this is only an exercise designed to help Someone ELSE test the power of belief.

Anyone here like Ron Paul for President? I think he's got some pretty good ideas.

Nelief in oneself is one heck of a motivtion tool too.
As is the belief one voice can encourage man to do better than he has so far, and right some of the wrongs done in the past in the name of God and country.
It worked reasonably well for Jesus Christ so could again someday.
That he and the vocal majority ended up at cross purposes is a sad thing, but life after all is a chance thing.

McCain sounds the best to me so far. Think he would be a lot more of a leader globally and yet he is'nt so extreme.
But it seems to be a mixed bag with pretty much all in the campaigne having something to cringe about.

I read these posts since I was last here on a few occasions.
I guess all we can do is try to have faith in something positive and the kids will follow with that.
All I had for faith at one time was a beat up guitar sitting there.
There is good and bad in anything.
