Seriously, I do what I'm supposed to do... send in my materials, follow up in 6 weeks, and -- 9 times out of 10 -- I'm treated like the scum of the earth.
Isn't it MY friends and fans who are going to be buying THEIR beer? Damn!
Am I the only one who enounters this? Is it me? Please tell me that you all have found the same thing.

To be sucessful you "Build A Better Mousetrap". Act professional, be professional, look professional. A well prepared Bio will let talent buyers know you are able to do what is required. If you look third class, you will get third class treatment. Ask them what you can do to improve your image. You may already be at the top of your game and dealing with "Beings" of a lessor God. And then maybe not.

Todd, sadly it's become the rule more than the exception the last few years especially. I wish I had the answers for you. For whatever reason there seems to be more and more club owners who are unproffessional, inconsiderate, clueless, devoid of any buisness sense whatsoever, alchoholics, drug heads,up to their ears in dept, or just plain jerks! {Of course I don't know of ANY musicians who are like that!{LOL} They seem to think that all they have to do is open a bar, and the cash will come flowing in. They expect the entertainment to be their salvation, yet treat the entertainers like 3rd rate trash. All you can do is be as proffessional {and persistent} at YOUR end,as possible and take the high road, and all the club owners AND your musical competitors who do not, will be weeded out. In the meantime, I feel your pain.

Guess what Todd..It happened again today! The club where I'd been playing friday happy hours called 2 hours before show time to tell me my gig was no more! This, just 2 weeks after double booking me, so in the last 2 weeks they've cost me about $350 right before Christmas. {The stupid Putz even had the nerve to wish me Merry Christmas!!!!!}

This thread looks dead but I just came across it and thought I would throw my 2 cents in. Most of the venues are struggling recently because people just don't seem to go out as much anymore (at least up here in NYC). The bottom line is that they only want bands that can pack their club with fans that will buy their alcohol. There are very few places that still have that built in crowd. It is work but once you get in there and show them you can bring in some heads, they will treat you like royalty. On the other hand, I bet there are a lot more bands that book a show and then cancel within a week of the show than there are venues canceling shows. Our fellow musicians have given us a bad name and we just have to drive on and prove we are different.

"If you are stuck in your musical composing, be unreasonable. Change your environment. If you are stuck in your lyrical efforts, instead of forcing the same old words out, force yourself to do unreasonable things." -Brian Austin Whitney
