Hey Derek
Thanks for the read and the kind words. A lot of blues songs do have that format too. It's just that most people don't write'em down on paper like that....However, that's just a small point....
I appreciate the visit and the comments....
Have a a great day and yes it is Eric

Hi Eric,
Simple, yet effective. Nicely done.

Hey Eric, Here's a fine example of a verse not full of a bunch of extra syllables (I throw myself at the mercy of the court!), but loaded with a good story and some great imagery. I particularly liked the second half of your first verse: open up a bottle pour me a drink mix it with moonlight shinin in on me.... My only little nit is the "Everybody's got to cry sometime" line, which is a bit reminiscent of REM's line "Everybody cries/ And everybody hurts sometimes." Certainly, the context is a different, but since you use it twice, it really caught my eye. Would offer you a replacement line if I could think of one, and certainly, it's your song, so KOS. Thanks for sharing, Beth

Howdy Eric,
Truly enjoyed this one a LOT. Cain't say much about the traditional blues song forms...but somewhere I thought I heard or read about the repeats in the 8 bar and 16 bar standard forms. I am outta my league on blues stuff but this did look more like a standard ountry song form to me also. But take anything I say with several grains of salt (prolly enough to cover a margarita glass anyway).
Anyway...this is a good downer of a blues song!!
Hugs, Bobbie

Hi Eric I really like this. Love how you alluded to moon 'shine' in the first verse, very clever! and this feels really fresh in my mind, ...not easy to be fresh in this genre either ! Need a cure for memories the soul eatin kind As far as the 12 bar 16 bar thing, my understanding is that those are the standard forms, BUT the doors been wide open for all kinds of variations on the theme....there's a fellow I like a lot who is doing innovative blues....uses a banjo on some and is more story teller. Mark Lemhouse, you might like listening. Has one called 'Paper Sack' an awesome drinking tune. Carry on ! jm

Actually I stole that line from dear ol Bob Young who has a song by that title.....It's a great song he has too! It seemed to fit here OK for me but maybe you have a point there, I'll do some thinnin on it.....G>.........
Thanks again

Hey there Bobbie Girl
Thank you for those kind and positive words I do appreciate them very much.
Yeah traditional maybe but even then there are many cases where it just doesn't follow any particular 8 or 16 bar format. I call this one electric blues or more modern but I do think you and Derek have a point, this is well/better suited to country blues and I thank you for that suggestion.
Take care
Eric

Hi Joice
Thanks for droppin in and the nice comments.
The banjo was originally a jazz instrument so I guess like the blues it can go anywhere it wants with the right direction. I bet the blues on the banjo is quite unique and interesting.
Yeah, the blues is no longer standard format I guess. Too many things have happened over the years, electric guitar, British invasion of blues players etc.
Thanks again Joice....

Eric,
This is so well written. I can't find a thing to nit. I can hear it as country blues. Love all of the lines, but especially that simple little chorus that says it all, but not too much.
Nice write, Eric,
Jan
