Hi! I'm Becky Wright, and I had SUCH fun performing in Shawnee-Mission, KS (the KC Roadtrip gig, on June 7th, 2007) this summer! Even though I'm in northeast Oklahoma (about an hour east of Tulsa), I do concerts, etc. in the KC area often. (My best friend lives in Overland Park, and I have many other friends there, too.)
Just wanted to say HI to you Kansans and Missouri-ites! Whatever you call yourselves... :))
Blessings to each of you!! Becky Wright

Becky:
Hello To You!
Thanks for sharing this info-It is Great Please do post when you have a show here. I am not far away from O.P.
------------------------------------------------- Aw names Missouri -Kansas history -laughing humm-I have a little time here. Please forgive me lol.
A little History of some names that are still used and is not used today.
Like Jayhawkers,Bushwackers,Kansas Red-Legs.
People in Missouri as well as Kansas call Kansas people "Jayhawkers"--A old name which is -Still Used- today and another that well known is Kansas Red-Legs,-but this name is not used-.
Its origin is rooted in the historic struggles of Kansas settlers. The term "Jayhawk" was probably coined about 1848. Accounts of its use appeared from Illinois to Texas. The name combines two birds -- the blue jay, a noisy, quarrelsome thing known to rob other nests, and the sparrow hawk, a stealthy hunter. The message here: Don't turn your back on this bird.
----------------------------------------------------------------
"The word 'Jayhawk' was first used in present-day Kansas about 1858. It was associated with robbing, looting and general lawlessness. During the Civil War, however, it took on new meaning.
Dr. Charles R. (Doc) Jennison, a surgeon, used it in 1861 when he was commissioned as a colonel by Kansas Governor Charles Robinson and charged with raising a regiment of cavalry. Jennison called his regiment the 'Independent Mounted Kansas Jayhawkers,' although it was officially the First Kansas Cavalry and later the Seventh Kansas Regiment.
During the Civil War the word Jayhawk became associated with the spirit of comradeship associated with efforts to keep Kansas a free state. And following the war most Kansans were proud to be called Jayhawkers, Just as they are today.
--------------------------------------------- --Bushwackers--A name Not used anymore- This is -Bad-when you read about this just the as Jayhawkers name.
But History is History nothing I can do about this.
Today Missourians --they really do not have a name they are called -Like Jayhawkers-
In its French version, Missouri was recorded by Pere Marquette and other early explores who wrote of the town of the "ouemessourit"--referring to the people (Indians which was later all killed).
Missouri--The Show Me State --
I'm from Missouri and you've got to show me. With this said it is portraying Missourians as tough-minded demanders of proof.
--------------------------- As time passed- I think today people --Really Do Not Understand--what they are related to and what these words really was saying when thought and when they was said.
Ok I will Stop Now. :~]
