O.K...You're Bobby Green (Joaquin Phoenix), you got a Hot Puerto-Rican Ladyfriend (Eva Mendes), and you run one of NYC's Hottest Night Clubs! Its Russian-Born Owner, a wealthy Fur Importer, wants YOU to scout Locales for New Expansion Clubs... (You've Got It MADE, Right?)
UNFORTUNATELY, if your Dad's the Precinct Police Chief (Robert Duval) AND your Kid Bro's an up-&-coming Cop (Marc Wahlberg), AND the Russian Mob decides THEY want YOUR Night Clubs to push THEIR Narcotics, you might have a problem as your relatives get gunned down, one-by-one.
(SO, Which Side are you ON...Long-Term Career-Wise?)
That's the Gritty Plotline on this WELL-Written, Filmed, & Acted Movie. The street cops being portrayed are quite human--they bleed, they suffer, & some die, all while trying to keep the peace and maintain their family honor.
With all the Sex (Minor), Drugs (Major) and Lock-&-Loading (Incessant) Going-On, I'd recommend ya Leave the Kiddies at-Home. Oh, and DO visit The John before viewing it: The plot moves along SO-intensely I didn't see ONE person get up during the ENTIRE Movie for a Popcorn-or-Bathroom Break!
IF you're the type of person who likes Scary Roller-Coaster Rides (& Occasional Gore) this movie's an "8-outta-10." (If you aren't, it's at least a "7"...'cuz you'll still be Well-Entertained.)

Hey Stanamigo
This one sounds like a winner. Mark Wahlberg is turning out to be quite the actor. I can't quite remember if I've seen Joaquin Phoenix in anything though I must admit I loved his late brothers acting abilities. I'll definitely put this one in the to see category thanks for a possible date night movie(We'll leave Bella with an aunt or something) Big Guy Hugs Derek

G'Mornin' Bro~!
It's a Very Engaging Flick..with some very-believable Bad Guys.
Phoenix does a Great Job of propelling this Cop Flick through some fairly-routine Scenarios..The Family Gathering..The Warnings by The Bad Guys..The Nuzzlings with His Love Interest (Sizzle)..The Car Chase...& Shoot-'Em-Ups..The Follow-Up, where it's All-Been-Solved.
Very Good Writing injects some Very Good Insights to the way Humanity Works..Protects itself..and Survives. (Ya wanna go out & hug a Policeman..ya really DO..after you've seen this Flick.) Much of this Response is due to the Great Job Robert Duval delivers in this Movie, & Marc Wahlberg's character is also a big factor. Ya get to be a "Family Member" of both Law Enforcement AND Russian Mafia Families..and tho it's The Usual Scenarios, really, it's done in a VERY Eye-Opening Way.
Thanks for givning me a good excuse to heap a bit More Praise on this production, Amigo!
Hope ya enjoy it! (Pretty sure ya will!)
Big Guy-Hug, Stan
