(Great Fun with Ben & Jerry...)
Ben Stiller's "The HEARTBREAK KID" is a Toughie-to-Review. It's Chock-Full of Hilarious Moments, from the "Mariachi Band-from-Hell" to the Sweet, Sunshiny Blond-Dreamboat who turns out to be a 24-Hour Ball-Buster Ferry to the River Styx.
You'd think Eddie Cantroni (Ben), a Late-Blooming Bachelor, with a Dad-on-gal-chasing-Steroids (Jerry, as "Doc")) urging him on, would finally find a little happiness and Settle Down!
Eddie's already got a successful Sportswear Biz in San Francisco. Got a "Thank-You Toast" from his Ex-Galfriend-for-years at her New Beau's wedding, where her dad congratulates Eddie for being "The first NON-A-Hole she ever dated."
Eddie stays pretty-likable when he literally bumps into The Gal of His Dreams..(Malin Ackerman as Lila)..Whirlwind Courtship..Mexican Resort Honeymoon..THEN discovers he shoulda held out for Something-Better. He actually FINDS this person (Michele Monaghan as Miranda)..causing him MAJOR doses of grief and elation..(And a Stint as an illegal alien that's equal parts Sad-&-Hilarious!)
This entire Movie ends up on a Sad-but-Hilarious Note, which makes this a Toughie-to-Review, as-stated. I LMAO thru most ALL of it, yet a day later, I STILL don't know if I LIKE the ending. Cast & Crew did a Great Job of EVERYTHING, however!
The Movie lives up to its Title, so here's 6-outta-10. (Maybe it SHOULD be an 8 1/2..as a Marital "Don't Let THIS Happen to YOU" Tale.) I'm still headscratchin'...
This Flick has some Carefully-Shot HOT Sex Scenes (I think GALS will like better'n the Guys) and one Rather Banal-yet-Hilarious Beach Scene..(So DO leave the Kiddies At Home!) A Very Funny Movie with a (Not-too-Hidden) Point-to-make. (Darn It!)
See it and you'll see WHY this "Be Careful What You Wish For" Flick is such A Toughie (For a Guy) to Categorize..even a day after you've seen it.
HATS OFF to actress Malin Ackerman as the Eventual Blond-from-Hell...it's the best "Jeckyl-Hyde-Job" I've seen in ages.
JMO! Keep-or-Sweep it! Big Hugs, Stan

Hey Stan
I liked the look of this from the previews. Which just goes to show you can't trust previews.
Sounds like all in all classic Ben Stiller which is good. Though when you mention some of the sadder parts of the hilarity and the ending it gives me pause.
I really thought i was going to click the Adam Sandler movie click. I was thouroughly dissappointed in it after having seen it though.
So to make a long reply as short as possible (yea right). I'll probably wait till this one comes out on video.
However i will mention that I did watch a movie on video here recently called the holiday with Kate Winslet (Titanic) Jack Black (Shallow Hal great movie by the way) Cameron Diaz(i know she's been in something other than this) And Jude law(not sure what he's been in either though lot know him) Anyways not to turn this into a total review of that film but I tell ya this much amigo it is an enjoyable one. The premise is that cameron diaz and Kate Winslet switch lives for a little while.
I'll make sure to sere this one when it comes to video but as far as seeeing it in the theatres your review has opted me to pass. Thsnks for saving me the 12 bucks plus popcorn amigo I owe ys somewhere near a keg of maberbock now lol. Sincere Blessing Big Guy Hugs Derek

HiDee B ro D!
I've seen "The Holiday"..& It's definitely a "Thumbs-UP" kinda picture!
"Heartbreak Kid" WASN'T a "Total Disappointment"...it just had SUCH a kinda-TWIST at the end that it felt like "3:10 to Yuma" when it was finished...(Quite Entertaining, but Bit-of-A-Letdown in da Last Reel.)
There AREN'T many Dull Moments in this one..I will say, in its Defense!
($12 you get off Cheap, too...we get stuck for $14 for "Senior" Tix...[& Popcorn/Coke, large, runs another $10]) I allus buy the Combo on that to make my Conscience Clear after we get the Free Tix..heh-heh!
Best Wishes & a Big Guy-Hug, Stan

"Money is worst reason to be motivated NOT to do anything. Instead of letting those concerns STOP you, use it to motivate yourself to find an alternate solution that bypasses money. You will soon find that your own resourcefulness is worth far more than a pile of paper money." –Brian Austin Whitney
