A thought done as a sing and suck in E. Rootish Blues. Graham http://www.soundclick.com/bands/songInfo.cfm?bandID=7032&songID=5794000Way Back In The Hollow Copyright © Graham Henderson APRA 2007 Way back in the hollow. Below every mountain I have known. There’s a fountain of sweet water. Where the best grasses are grown. And every one who stops to rest. And drink that nectar from the ground. Walks away the better for. Laying their burden down. When you’ve got troubles. Piling all around Go find that hollow. Where peace bubbles from the ground. Drink your fill of honesty. Then face that climb once more. And you make it to the top. A better person than before. Every mountain has its fountain. Though they can be hard to find. There is no map or sign post. Other than written in your mind. But be aware it is there. If you dare to hunt around. For that grotto called tranquillity. Where new hope is always found. Its there, way back in the hollow. Below every mountain I have known.

Yep. I was just replacing it with the new sing Moker. Shifted from E to C and picked the pace up a little, along with a little word change at the end. Should be working now thanks. Graham

Graham,
Wow! that's some singing...pretty wild...would like to hear some sort of percussion...some strange combo like a bass drum and tambourine...

cool lyric...I'd like to hear that blues music behind you, a kinda slow shuffle beat, and a few more harp breaks here and there, not many singers deliver a message with more honesty...thanks for the post...Moker

Thanks Moker. I will probany give it some backing eventually. Just did id as an all in one as I would have if I had tried it jamming with a band, instead of doing a jammer backing first. Graham

Thanks Tom. Sorry I missed you last time in. And thanks Louis. Well. It now has bass, drums and piano. Also gone back to E and shifted to jazz for the moment. Here is the link to the new Jazz take. I left the original up as well. Hey Graham: Yeah, this is wild. I actually prefer the original version - sounds authentic.....I've heard people talk like that. Course they usually scare me when they do because they sound really, really sold on the idea but that's all part of the fun I think it would be really cool if you just had some guy jamming on slide guitar in the back Love the harp, as usual.... Thanks Scott. I prefer the first take myself tooo. That said. I have done a third take, and in fact, it has been on my mind all along to have a go at a bit of slide along with it. Or just straight guitar. I will have to find my neck hanger for the harmonica for that one. Meantime, I am having fun with this. Hope you all enjoy the ye haw take. I'd call it Bluegrass but it has a little drums in it and I may get shot by the purists so called it Alternative Country. Seemed the only alternative to being shot. Graham,
You're a man of many talents. Three takes on one number...that's what I call maximizing! Personally, I'm a littlemore fond of the Jazz version. But, I am biased as Swing Jazz is one of my very favourite genres. Nice job!

Al's right, three takes, three different feels -- maximizing (good phrase). Enjoyed the lyrics, good imagery.

Thanks Steve, Al and Kevin. I tried for a slide guitar take as Scott suggested yesterday but the cobwebs got in the way and nothing came out well. May try for a 12/8 go at it later today. I'm having fun with it and glad most seem to be enjoying the little venture. Just editing in the 12/8 feel take of this for any who are interested, rather than send it to the top again. I like the original man... you got that vocal nicely... yeah some percussion wouldn't go astray but not too much or it will lose the great natural feel you have captured. Great work Cheers

Hey Graham, this is a way cool song! I really enjoyed these lyrics--lotta fun. And I'm still trying to decide which take I like best. I think I'm somewhere between the blues and jazz take. Terrific harp going on in that original!
Nice job! Thanks for the listen.

Hey Graham, I like the bluesy version better. Cool lyrics. You voice has kind of a Lightnin' Hopkins sound. Roxy http://www.soundclick.com/roxycain

Thanks Tom, Roxy, and especially you Kevin for giving me the wake up laugh that is going to colour my day for me I am sure.I believe somewhere on my site I say something along the lines I only noise stuff m first because it is fun, and second, hoping somebody may like something enough to have a crack at it. I spent a good bit of yesterday trying to do some guitar that sounded not bad to this and wound up with not a lot bar sore fingers to show for the effort. I loved the Darth inspiration bit too. Yesterday, I also spent a lot of time trying to figure out what somebody saw as special in a video clip I found rather boring and all been done before and better. If it had been something like the Darth one, I would never have asked why. I am going to paste the link to this over on my reply to that i think as an example as to what shakes my tree if you don't mind Kevin. And maybe in the artists or off topic forum over on SongRamp because I am totally chuffed with your take on this Bloke. Wait until I tell my Mom. She's going to be so happy for me. Re the differant takes Tom. Apart for the ad hoc first take which is just one take, I simply layed out a progression in Soundtrek Jammer and applied differant band styles to it , saving each take as it was done. All the same progressions and just a few udjustments to tempo, and instruments, ^Then sang and sucked over that. By the way kevin. I can rarely play and sing at the same time eother. That is why you rarely hear any harmonica under my sing bits. Graham

Hi Graham
This was just wonderful.. didn't know you had this kind of groove dude! Great sense of phrasing, meter and timing. It just sat in it's own pocket. Harp was great and voice was PERFECT!
I like it with no music but this.....

Thanks Mike. The funny one for me is I don't think I have ever seen the same song in no les than five differant genre charts on soundclick all at the one time, but there they were when I decided to go listen to some top 100 stuff today as I usualy do instead of bothering with radio. I don't often do the country charts and was surprised how many cover songs came up in them by the way. Seems Soundclick having a specific spot for covers in all genres is not working all that well. Graham

The blues version with only a harp gives it a "High Lonesome" sound, and I like that. As far as my favorite, it would be a tossup between the Jazz version and the Slow Country. Whatever your final product is, I'm sure most will be ok with it. Ben
P.S. Thanks for the fine words on my song. It has run the cycle once and I don't want to keep bumping it up, that wouldn't be fair.

The decision is easy. When I heard your first version I thought that it would sound great w/blues. I then looked further down and saw you were offering a smorgasboard of options. I vote for the blues w/harp but also w/the addition of bluesy instrumentation and flavor. I would get it demoed in a full blues version w/all the embellishments. This could work in a more sophisticated Louis Armstrong delivery or a get down blues vocal like Muddy Waters. Female blues vocal would also work. Lyrics are excellent!!!!!! You do have a line in there that says "when you've got troubles piling all around" which I believe leans it lyrically to the blues.
So, one fully produced demo in blues w/male or female blues vocalist is my suggestion.
Best, Lynn

Hey Graham,
Can't decide which one I like best, probably the jazz version. That's some fine suck and sing. Sure you're not a black dude from the South, rather than a white Aussie sand groper ?
Nicely done mate, has a real down to earth authentic feel about it.
cheers, niteshift

Thanks Shifty. It ws good to come back south last night and find all my takes, and Kevin's one are all still up there getting played and charting on The Click. Made me feel I got something right for a change. I guess just turn on record and holler works sometimes. Graham

Just a quick comment. You said "Made me feel I got something right for a change.". Well, you almost always do. You're a talented bloke!
