It's Hard to Believe that SHARK FIN SOUP may present MORE of a Threat to Life-on-Earth than GLOBAL WARMING...(And perhaps Even-SOONER)..but Thanks to Filmmaker-&-Director Rob Stewart's "SHARKWATER", the Facts Are IN:

"If we stopped {The Slaughter of Sharks} today, it would take 20 YEARS to get back to Normal"...

"What if it takes 5 more years to Stop?" I asked him.

"There probably WON'T be enough LEFT to recover."

It's not everyday you take in a Local Preview and MEET the Star, Director, Cameraman (much of the time), Writer & Producer of a Flick IN-PERSON..(In ONE Amazing 27-year-old Person).. But there he WAS, brilliantly-answering questions from the Audience after we viewed it..(& filled the Theater with Applause!)

Rob, from Toronto, Canada "half-the-time" and Australia "the rest", spent some of his Youth at Florida's Sannibel Island, where, instead of shell-collecting, an appreciation for Sharks developed early-in-life.

Rob's always thought Sharks got a raw deal being portrayed as "Man-Eaters". This Beautiful Film starts out with early clips
from Air Force Survival School & several Underwater Flicks (including JAWS) that helped contribute to Shark's Rapid Decline since the 1980's.

You'll ALSO see Ron, Hugging-AWAY with a Shark that looks 2-3 times his weight, early-on..(Memories of Seigfried & Roy's Act immediately come-to-mind.) He later more than half-jokes we need
plush "Shark Toys...Teddy Bears are all used up!" Your eyes are Continuously-Bathed in his Beautiful, pretty SAFE-for-HUMANS Underwater World that Sharks Call "Home", along with documentary proof of Human Greed and Corruption.

Has a VERY Exciting "Chase Scene" where Rob and Greenpeace Activist PAUL WATSON rev their boat to make it to International Waters, pursued by a boat fulla Corrupt Police Officers, all armed with Machine Guns..while dodging 6 trumped-up Attempted Murder Charges! The mist barely-settles when Rob then heads to the Hospital, left leg infected with flesh-eating Staph while antibiotics drip into him, trying (Successfully, Thank God!) to save his leg.

These are only 2 of the 6 "Life-Threatening Incidents" that could've prematurely-ended this fine Person & Movie, during filming. To his credit, Rob doesn't mention the Other 4 in the Movie..it's THE SHARKS he wants you to know better!

What IS their Importance to us...& WHY should we deal with their Declining Numbers NOW? In Fairness, Rob interviews folks on BOTH sides of the Shark Issue...including The Idiot who's made a Big "CAUSE" out of killing Great Whites, so today "Few over 8-feet are left". And..there's the memorable Sleezebag "Middleman" for a Shark-Fin-Soup Company, who WANTS you to "be VERY afraid of sharks". (So HE and the Taiwanese Mafia can make over a Billion Bucks from Shark Fin Soup, annually.)

"Dried Shark Skin is TASTELESS...it's mixed with CHICKEN to give the soup Flavor"

"50% of the Chinese don't KNOW there's Shark IN 'Shark-Fin Soup..it translates as 'FISH WING SOUP' in Chinese!"

"The TAIL of a {Harmless Plankton-Eating} Whale Shark, Biggest Vertebrate in the Oceans, fetches over $10K. They're NOW disappearing faster than we can study their life cycle."

"For the first time in 400 Million Years, the Earth's Top Predators are being Prayed-UPON...to Extinction..By Us."

By the End of this Excellent Documentary, you'll see Rob wearing just a Black Speedo, swimming freely among a big bunch of the rather-shy Toothy-Critters. (Even Scuba BUBBLES scare them, so Snorkels & "Rebreather" Rigs were mostly-used to approach them.)
AND..."After 200 Days underwater filming them, not ONE bite."

Here are some of the REASONS we need INTERNATIONAL LAWS Protecting Sharks..AND Enforcement of them:
1) They've been here 400 Million Years...100 Million Years BEFORE Dinosaurs appeared!
2) They're among the Oceans' TOP Predators
3) They Control the Oceans' Plankton-Eating Fish Species
4) Kill Off the Sharks, there goes The Oceans' "BALANCE"
5) Plankton-Eating Species then Multiply-Rapidly, depleting the Oceans' Plankton
6) The Oceans' Plankton supplies 70% of the Oxygen WE Breathe.
7) Some Shark Species take 25 YEARS to reach Sexual-Maturity, THEN only have 3-5 "Pups" a Year
8) Annually-Reported Human Deaths:
By Sharks: 5
By Elephants: 100
By Executions: 2,400
By Drugs: 22,000
By Crocodiles, in ONE year = 100 years of Sharks

Even if we act NOW to protect what LITTLE is LEFT, It's Very CLOSE to Being TOO-LATE. I humbly give this Very IMPORTANT Movie 9 1/2 outta 10..(Shoulda been SADDER, Somehow, Rob!)
But it's PERKY, Visually BEAUTIFUL, Emotionally EXCITING, a Thoroughly-EDUCATIONAL Movie, and there's even a WEBSITE listed at The End, <www.sharkwater.com> where you can learn Even MORE about this very Important, Mis-Understood & Under-Appreciated Animal, The Shark.

"Most people don't know we're in the middle of World War THREE...and The Enemy..is US."

PLEASE See This One, Folks...then Get INVOLVED!

JMO...(Keep-or-Sweep)
Big Hugs,
Stan

Hey Stanamigo

Glad I checked the review. Makes sense that things might get out of balance after killing off a species. Also make sense that it may have already happened several time over.

This might be where I would strongly differ from what evoloution claims. "Suvival of the fittest" if it is truly the case isn't working on a global scale. Cause a shark would easily make mincmeat of man. Cept a man is more skillfull in destruction.

Interesting thought though. If the fittest is only fit to ultimatly destroy himeself what's the point of evolving? Sort of like the ole saying. Give a man enough rope he'll hang himself. Looks like mankind is fit to do that at the least bit lol. I agree with joining up and helping make a difference if watching this film helps thje effort I'll be aure to see it
Big Guy Hugs

HiDee Bro Derek!

Our Species has wiped MORE Species OUT than any Other Species on the Globe..in the Short Relative-Time we've BEEN Here!

We're fast-proving that Brain-Size has NOTHING to DO with a Specie's Survival.

Rob mentioned the Sea Otter communities on the West Coast got decimated by Fur Traders. So...The Sea Urchins they dine on OVERRAN the Kelp Beds..killing off Spawning Grounds for ALL the Fish evabody USED to Catch out there.

But...when LAWS got passed and ENFORCED, the Otter made a Comeback, & so did the Fishing.

OUR Species is amazingly Short-Sighted..& Future Generations will look back at us like BARBARIANS if we don't DO something to Save Our Sharks. (Heh.."S-O-S"...that's Kinda Catchy!)

But..it'll take MORE than Cute Slogans..& Songs..& Even this GREAT Movie to DO THE JOB. It's gonna take a LOT of Pissed-Off PEOPLE...all writing Jaded Congressmen & Senators. So Visit Rob's Website...Tell All Your Friends..& Do Whatever Your Conscience tells ya To Do! (This Movie WILL drive home the point "Time IS of the Essence.")

Thanks Kindly for Your Visit, Amigo!
Big Guy-Hugs,
Ol' Activist-Stan

Oh..PS: & Here's The Kicker: "Sharks HAVE Survived all 5 of the "Major Extinctions" on our Planet."

Hey Stan

I'm on board I'll get signed up and at the least bit these politicians in Oregon will know eactly how I feel about the eradication of sharks. I have never even heard of a normal shark attacking some one other than by accident. Rogue sharks do at times. But rogue people have been known to kill more people in one fail swoop than sharks do in a year. Or maybe even ten.

On a less serious note you oughta write that song Save Our sharks lol I think it would bring some conscious awareness to people in a humorous way. Good luck with it and all your endeavors. We gotta keep on top of things otherwise we'll all end up dead wondering what went wrong.
Big On board with ya hugs
Derek

Thanks Bro D!

The MORE People-Get-Pissed, The MORE Politicos RESPOND.

I just posted "GONNA BUY ME A BOTTLE (OF OXYGEN)" at Lyrics Feedback Board 3...I'm doin' What I Can...Hope to Do More, to the Best of My (Limited) Ability.

It's NUMBERS the Politicos are concerned with.

So...Let's Give 'Em SOME!

Thanks for The Help, Amigo!
Big Guy-Hug,
Stan
