Hmmm...Didn't see Hitchcock's "The Birds" or "Tora-Tora-Tora"..& a few other faves.
BUT did see Lots of Sci-Fi & Adventure Flicks I'd Forgotten how much I'd enjoyed:
Raiders of the Lost Ark..Dr Strangelove..Clockwork Orange..2001/Space Odyssey..Blade Runner {Now THERE was a Truly GREAT Sci-Fi Flick!!!}...Alien 1 was, too...(Tho I kept expectin' that CAT to launch Alien 2)...& The Great Escape (So sad Steve McQueen didn't stick around Longer!) I liked ALL The Star Wars Episodes, as well..tho Last One kinda fizzled a Wee-Bit.
I'd forgotten the Great Acting in "The Shining".."Chinatown".."Cu koo's Nest".."Forest Gump".."Green Mile".."The Godfather".."Amelie".."To Kill a Mockingbird".."Silence of The Lambs".."Lawrence of Arabia"..(etc!)
And the Great Special Effects in "The Matrix"..& that Incredible Segue in "The Deer Hunter"..
Surprised not to see "Beverly Hills Cop (1)" & no Liz Taylor flicks. Glad Monroe made it with "Some Like It Hot"! Think "Ghostbusters" shoulda..but guess it's Been-Awhile.. Weird "The Incredibles" made it & "Finding Nemo" didn't, nor did "Cars"...
Guess I better SEE #s 2 and 4 to Get-Up-to-Speed, eh? (I've never even HEARD of #4 before..but guess Tampa-Town's off the beaten Cinemalogical Path, perhaps?) Oh.."1966"...I wuz in Ohio wrasslin' to get an Art Degree, all-year...didn't catch too many Flicks other'n a Film French Course I flunked one semester.
Uh..Color-Me-Dumb, but if those are Member Vote Talleys apres the Year-Released, just WHO determined "The Pecking Order" here? If #4 got "73K Votes" and #5 got "240K Votes", I'd be a bit pissed IF I Were The Director of #5...
Obviously, upon a Closer Inspection, SOME IMDB Members' Votes must carry "Additional Clout?"
But That's Show Biz, Eh, Amigo! ;-)>
Thanks for Sharing The Memories, Amigo! Big Guy-Hug, Stan

Actually it's an average vote score (1 to 10 with 10 being best) and there's some other formulas to balance vote total differences. (Like it takes a higher score than posted for a film with less votes to reach a high place.. so in reality the movies with fewer votes had a higher average score than listed. They discuss their algorhythm on their site a bit.
It's a popularity list which is different than a list that would be chosen by critics for example. Though I think in general these selections are better than most critics Top 100. And the foreign film titles are mostly well known in the west if you translate them. For example, #4 is The Good, The Bad and the Ugly.

Your right, IMDB is addictive. Thanks for the heads up. I've been bored lately. I'll have alot of fun with this web site. Maybe we should start another thread on bad, cheesey movies. I can think of a few. Another idea. Some time ago you had a thread asking us what our favorite movies were. We could compare the responses with the IMDB list. Ben http://benwillismusic.com

I didn't see "The Right Stuff" on the list - one of my all time favorites.....
I also thought "Aliens" was better than "Alien". For that matter, I thought 2010 superior to 2001. I expect many would disagree with me though...

Oh...I got Lost In Translation, then...& Have seen it! (Thought Clint was pretty good in "Dirty Harry" too)...(Remember when "Make my DAY, Punk" used to?) ;-)>
Dunno about alla them Al-Gore-ythms, either... Weird Vote Counts seem to be The American Way these days, but I'm still a believer in "One Man, One Vote, Tote-Em-ALL-Up..& Da Winner IS..."
But, yep, it's a Great, Very-Interestin' List..& brought back lotsa Great Movie Memories!
Thanks Again! Big Guy-Hug, Stan

I noticed that of the top 100 movies, less than 20 of them were about something other than crime or war. (and some of those were about Boxing, the most violent legal thing you can do). Interesting eh? People love their crime, war and violence.

Ah, Shakespeare knew that 400 years ago, Brian. That's why he still gets produced today. Linda
