I think Kaley is contagious. Had some of this chorus lying around for a long time as the start of a kid's poem, but never finished it. Since K seemed a bit down tonite, I figured I hadda do my part to make folks smile again. Hope ya'll enjoy it. Appreciate any comments..suggestions..criticisms.
Myrtle The Fertile Turtle © 2001 Lyrics by Bobbie Gallup
Way up in Northern Michigan In a warm and sunny bog Lives a pretty red eared turtle On a green and mossy log
CHORUS: She's Myrtle the fertile turtle And Myrtle's quite a flirt She makes eyes at all the boys And she's got lotsa baby turts They love to follow her everywhere Hidin' in her turtle skirts She loves punkin' pie for breakfast And pizza for dessert
She wanted to be a singer But she didn't have much choice The bullfrogs beat her to it Plus she didn't have a voice
She tried to be a runner But she couldn't learn to jog Nothing for her was easy As falling off her log
She lays around all summer Just tanning her turtle hide But she has trouble bending over When her turtle shoes come untied

Really fun one Bobbie, As my father-in-law used to say, cute as a bug's ear. Oh, I think I can hear Kaley workin on that one already. I've heard the rumors of Fertile Myrtle for years, but didn't know she was a turtle. learn somethin every day. Love the baby turts! Didn't see any nits except for perhaps the last two lines of the chorus. On second read they sorta looked like they were just something thrown in to keep the rhyme going. Bringing up the meals seemed to come out of left field. Oh well, maybe it's just me. It's late and I'm a little spacey. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/confused.gif)

Hi Bobbie....How nice to head off to work this morning with a chuckle! ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/smile.gif) This is sooooooo cute. I didn't know Fertile Myrtle was a turtle, either. See what we learn on these boards. To add a little more humor to it...and I am a bit crazy in the mornings....all I could hear with her "turts" was a "d" on the end instead of a "t" ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/smile.gif) ....what can I say...it's early and I am silly in the morning. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/smile.gif) (Don't you hate people who wake up in a good mood?)

Hi Bobbie this is real cute but I'm with Harriet on the last two lines of the chorus. didn't seem to fit the turtle theme, the food lines. Also, on I think its a bridge, instead of falling of the log, maybe SLIDING off the log. turltes sort of slide off I think, seems they do it a little more graceful. Just a thought. Kaley has some competition now!

Thanks folks! Glad to give the day a smiley start for some of you. Harriet..doncha just hate bringing up meals? LOL I considered making those last two lines into a verse...but they seemed to fit better with the rhyme in the chorus..so I left them that way. From my experience as a naturalist at a nature center, kids ALWAYS want to know what something eats...so it does have to be in there somewhere. Sunny..I am like you...I get up in the morning sorta giddy sometimes. Could be from only getting a couple hours of sleep..LOL I know what you are saying about that "t" on the end of that line. LOL But the lil boys'll love it. Glad this one gotcha going!
Michele, I recalled a saying that I heard a lot when I was young, ..something was "easier than falling off a log", so I put that in there. If Myrtie has red ears...she is what is known as a red-eared slider..a real kind of a turtle that lives in MI. And yes...she definitely DOES 'slide' off her log rather than 'fall'. I was merely going for the play off that old phrase there, since this song can hardly be said to be totally PC. LOL
Thanks a bunch, Kaley, Ron & Bama. Makes me right proud! So glad this one made folks grin a bit this morning. Hope it does it for the kiddies too. I can just hear parents now.."No you CAN'T have punkin pie for breakfast!"
Bobbie

Okay Bobbie, You got me. In all my classes for Wildlife management, I had to learn what every critter ate, too. But...... When we dissected the fish stomachs, I never saw anything like pizza or pumpkin pie. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/wink.gif)

Hee hee hee Harriet! You musta gone to the wrong school! LOL You gotta admit that watercress and waterbugs don't sound QUITE so appealing to a 4 year old as pizza and punkin pie! LOL This did actually start out a straight song...but in midsong I went..NAHHH...I want kids to have fun with this, so it got a total different perspective. Figure teachers or parents can use it to THEN teach kids the reality of a turt's life! LOL If not, at least they have some fun rhymes to sing.

Bobbie, you sure got a dose of the "Kaleys" with this one. This is fabulous and I can see very clearly a turtle falling off a log. I'm gonna try one of these, got a good idea in mind. My friend spent his whole holiday with us keeping look out for funnel web spiders, since the first day he arrived we found a huge one in the pool. Cheers, Judy

Howdy Mz Judy and Mz Kaley,
Thanks fur peekin at this one and fur all the kind words. I almost wish I could get a publisher interested in doing this as a book/song package, cause the illustrations I have in my head would be great!! I gotta finish the illustrations for another book first though...if you kin imagine 30 paintings of one miniature schnauzer..LOL It is great fun, cause he IS a character!
We will ALL look forward to your Funnel Spider song, Judy! And Kaley...I am checking into some folks who can do music for kid's songs. I will let you know what I find out.
Bobbie
