Happy New Year!! Yes, it's already 2007 down here. I was looking through "My Stuff" and went to "My Posts" - last page and this is what I found. Written in 2000 and I quickly made changes as suggested back then.
SAME OLD NEW YEAR
The wall clock strikes midnight Another year ends Alone in a corner Watching old friends Laughing and dancing But no-one can see Without you a New Year Means nothing to me Chorus Same old New Year Same old new tears Same old yearning Wanting you here Same old New Year
Mindlessly sipping A glass of champagne I toast to a new year Without you again If I had just one wish That one wish would be That you were here starting This New Year with me
Repeat chorus

Judy, Judy, Judy,
Wonderful lyric all the way through. The fact that it's just about New Year's is novel. I know Christmas has it's own genre but I'm guessing New Year's falls under that genre or should. Love the simplicity and rhymes and overall feeling. I think a bridge would only enhance it all the more so. I think w/your talent you could come up w/one. Great write. Notice it's from 2000, do you have a melody, cause I'd love to hear it.
Best, Lynn

Judy, hello, mate! Great to see you post. Haven't seen you in months, until you wished me well (thanks for that), so I guess you're lurking quietly about. This is splendid in it's lonely simplicity. If I'm gonna find one thing that seems a bit over the top, I'd hafta say the image of her sitting in a corner while "old friends" mingled is hard to picture, especially when "no one can see". Seems if she lost someone that important to her, at least some of the old friends would be aware, and do all they could to comfort. I'd like to hear this. Happy Aussie New Year, JH!! Ben

Beautiful and simple. I'm hearing this as a jazzy standard type song, but it could be country too. Cheers and happy new year to you! Good to see you posting!

Judy!
It has been so doggone long...much too long! How have ya been? Hope all is well in Sydney. Happy New Year! And, i think this little effort gets your New Year off to a real nice start.
Certainly cannot disagree with all the accolades about the beautiful simplicity of this one. This is some of your writing at its best. I agree with LL about adding a short bridge. gotta go do a couple of chores, but will be back to look in on this later. I'll also be thinking about a bridge for you to consider.
Talk atcha later,
Alan

Well, Judy, Judy, Judy, where have you been? Don'tcha know we miss you? Yeah, I like the song. Like some of the others, I feel like it could stand a bridge if it would fit in. Just thoughts on a bridge, not lines------------ Someone who knew you said you were headed this way Don't know if it's true, I've heard it before I'll try not to hope and be disappointed again Until you really come , it'll be -------------------back into the C I like it, Good work, as usual. Don't be a stranger. Wy

Hi old friends (Wyman, Alan, Corey and Johnny V) and new friends Lynn and Ben, hope 2007 will see the muse down under again. Thanks so much for taking the time to have a look at this one. Originally posted in 2000, never did get music, I think Idamarie was looking at it back then, but I hear it as a fairly slow waltzy kind of melody. I'm grateful for the bridge ideas and will see what happens. When I listened to my favourtie Christmas song (Blue Christmas, sung to me especially by Ben) I realised how few words are in the lyric and how beautifully simple the song is. I intend to make an effort this year to write more but with less words - if you read the lyrics in the sleeves of most CD's, unless it's a story song, the lyrics are mostly quite short. The trick is to come up with an idea and just write what is needed - no more (and ain't that the hard part). Cheers all, and a very Happy New Year to you. Judy

Pretty good, Judy. One nit, keep or sweep : If I had just one wish That one wish would be(instead of stating what the wish would be, go ahead and say something like: I'd wish you were here, Right by my side, Beginning this new year

Happy New Year, Judy.
Looks good. Only two small suggestions:
The clock's striking midnight - Wall clock sounds a little awkward and doesn't match the inflection pattern of the second verse.
I would leave out the repeated "Same old New Year" at the end.

Hi Judy,
Very nice! I love its simplicity! I think that someone mentioned the possibility of a bridge. I'd like that too, or one more verse, just to get a tiny bit more information.

Fine writing Judy, Happy New Year!
rough sketch of a bridge:
it could be when the leaves begin to fall or winters first coat of snow when cherry blossums house a red birds call or soft summer sands are all aglow
but mostly I know
chorus

Hi Sister!! Did you think I died?? Nope ----here we are again--- I remember this one and looked it up in my Judy Book. I did start a sort of waltzy kind of melody for it then. Never got it finished enuff for a demo. Wonder what will happen when I take it back to the keys in this new revised lyric you have posted. I have lots of new styles to work with and you can never know what happens when my fingers hit the keys. I will get back to you on this one. Still playing the Ballerina at some of my shows and also "Peg Leg Peg" and "Swingin Thru The Blues". You are still one of my favorite lyracists and I hope that muse wanders back in for a long visit. We've have been Grannys in a rockin' chair for too long. Now there is a clue for a lyric. Gotta get our derrieres movin' and groovin'. I hope the family is all well and you are still red haired and bushy tailed. I am as feisty as ever and finally got back on line so I am hoping my composing muse gets back on board too. I have missed you and think about you and Pete and your little people OFTEN. We are having a wonderful winter, weather wise here in Ohio. Hope you are doing well down under. Wish you were here!! Still luv ya!!Idamarie
