Two inspirations in as many days. I saw DougDude's silly Santa song and thought I'd like to write a silly Christmas song. This popped out. Never thought I'd ever do that but never say never. ____________________________________________
"It's Beginning To Look Alot Like Christmas" (a parody)
It's beginning to look alot like Christmas, Everywhere you go, It's the day after Halloween, Wal-Mart puts out nativity scenes, Poor Thanksgiving didn't even make a show.
It's beginning to sound alot like Christmas, On Christmas radio, They are playing our favorite songs, While Jack-o-lanterns still sit on our lawns, Yet we're hearing songs of wreaths and mistletoe.
It's beginning to look alot like Christmas, Play Stations 3's for sale, Yes, their all camping out in their tents, Who cares if they all miss the rent, They'll just tell their landlord some outrageous tale.
It's beginning to look alot like Christmas, Bills are piling high, Gotta get gifts for Uncle Bill, The office and better still, My out-of-state,out-of-mind cousins might stop by.
It's beginning to look alot like Christmas, The kids are well behaved, They have a wish list of their toys, Their wiling to keep down the noise, My twenty-year old is finally willing to shave.
It's beginning to feel alot like Christmas, My weight is 302, Though the cookies were meant as gifts, I read chocolate can give you a lift, I'll have to see what Jenny Craig can do.
Oh, it's beginning to look, beginning to sound, beginning to feel,....like Christmas!
Hope you smile!
P.S. Which lines for verse 2 do you like better, the ones that are there or the one's in (paranthesis)???? Please vote. Thanks.

Hi Lynn, I vote for the one's in parenthesis. However, I was almost wanting to hear that the jack-o-lanterns hadn't even been carved but that messes up the rhyme. HEY, I know a LOT of people that would listen to this song. You go girl. Christmas is ONE thing I'll never get PC about and the things you've described in this song are what take tax my nerves every year. We're gonna rebel in every way possible this year. And I think Linda A's lyric is a great start for me. My favorite Christmas ornament is a tin cup that my Mother used to use to do her measuring for baking. It's all bent out of shape but I started hanging it on the tree several years ago. Also, have tried to start a tradition many years ago, making an ornament to celebrate the little miracles through the year. Had kinda forgotten about it until now. Think that's how we will plan our decorating this year. Each ornament homemade or not, has to remind us of a blessing or a little mirace that happened this year. One will undoubtedly have to be shaped like a tornado since those twisters that touched down around here spared our lives. We were praying in the hallway last week as they passed overhead. We could hear it. Oh, one more thing. You have that phrase "outta state, outta mind". Did you consider actually using "outta sight, outta mind? Think it would work well there if you wanted to go ahead and let it rhyme there. It would be understood they were outta state. super job Lynn. rd Ps. I got an email from some department store last week, said, "Oh, come all ye savings." I couldn't hit the delete button fast enough. Maybe we should have Christmas in June?? ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/wink.gif)

Hi RD,
I got the "royal" treatment since you were kind enough to drop in. Glad you enjoyed. Trust me, this was so out of character in that I revere Christmas and don't want to diminish it's true origins. Although a secular take, I kept it clean. It's funny how this board has inspired me to do other things and that's a good thing, as long as I keep em' G-rated, since that is my personal goal.
As far as your tradition w/the tree and your mentioning of your Mom's baking cup, well that just made me all warm inside and might just be another inspiration for another song. What a lovely tradition. Christmas must be special at your house and very well should be. Yes, I read that Wal-Mart and Macy's have ditched some old decorations and the Happy Holiday line and are bringing back the "Merry Christmas" greeting at the beckoning of thousands of customers.
Best, Lynn

Hi Lynn
I'm sure this has a market and could be very fun for the listeners. Wondering if wal mart has their money behind the broardcasting industry though.
would change the line maybe to ('tis true in the north) Still the WEATHER says we're in June
It is good that you are being inspired here!
Best to you jm : )

Hi Joice,
Not sure about the Wal-Mart $ thing, just used Wal-Mart since it's almost universal as far as retailers. I'm still waiting to get votes on which line they like better on verse 2 since I'm gonna' go w/either one of them. As far as market, I wonder if they refer to these types as novelty??? Thanks for your time and read.
Best, Lynn

Hey, Lynn. Like the lyric and the sentiment. I couldn't believe it-this year, just after school started, they started putting up Christmas decorations. I hate to see Christmas stuff before Halloween. I went to see Trans-Siberian Orchestra Monday night and last night I went to the opening of Deck The Halls here in town. So, will you talk bad about me if I put my Christmas tree up tonight or tomorrow? I'm really in the mood, now after going to those things this week. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/smile.gif) I'm on call and I'll be working, so I'll be pushed for time NEXT weekend. Please?? I might even play Christmas cd's, too. I came back to edit because I missed Joice Marie's suggestion for a line. I LOVE that suggestion. ------------------ "Experience teaches us that silence terrifies people the most."~~Bob Dylan www.giddygirlmusicpublishing.com [This message has been edited by TriciaBaker (edited 11-18-2006).]
"Grits is one of those country-boy words that is both singular and plural-like deer, elk and sheep. I think the singular is appropriate when there's a modifier that makes it clear one is talking about something specific. Like, 'Grits are good for you, but these here grits is tasty.'"~~Joe Wrabek

Cute song Lynn! It seems to start earlier each year! This holiday is a special one for me and my family. We have so much to be thankful for and I am so into the Christmas spirit. All my decorations are up and the tree will be decorated tomorrow, while we're watching the Eagles game!
Thanks for the smile!!

Hi Tricia,
By no means do I think it's too early for you to start the tree, etc. The right time is when it's right for you. I wrote this song purely for fun and to show human nature. I put up the tree, etc the day after Thanksgiving to give Thanksgiving it's place in time and also because I don't like the mob crowds on Black Friday, so it works well. Hope you enjoyed the Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert.

Hi Steve,
I hear you. I get this strange craving to take a walk in the woods around Christmas and I know it's because of all the commercialsm and a walk in the woods is the complete opposite. It happens every year to me, so I usually make my way to the woods to regain balance.

Hi Lynn, Yeah, I am with you on this. I was appalled this year to see how early the merchants were running Christmas ads! Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas, but to me it is all about family, love, sharing and remembering the greatest gift of all. The morass of commercialism doesn't help me feel the blessing that I have in my heart for the gift we were given that night so long ago. I love giving gifts but it takes me all year to plan and find JUST the perfect thing for everyone. That is what makes gift-giving fun for me. This year, I found a book for my sister that I KNOW she will cherish...which is all about the history of the island in N. Michigan where our grandmother was born. It includes the family histories of all the early settlers (including our family). I didn't even know the book existed and I am sure she doesn't either. I know it will surprise and delight her. Since Dawg has been gone, I haven't put up a tree. That is tough to do when you are alone. <G> But I haven't been here over Christmas for the past two years so I haven't missed it a lot..although putting up the tree always seemed to be a great time to reflect on the year and all the blessings. When I was in high school, I decided that our family didn't have enough traditions..so I decided to start one. <G> Since I had a lot of relatives who lived within a short distance, I would bake and deliver a special holiday tea ring every Christmas Eve that folks could have for breakfast on Christmas morning. Until I moved many states away...all my aunts and uncles would be asking Mom if I was coming home for the holidays! I remember the warm fuzzies of delivering those coffee cakes. I am sure many of them got chowed down on Christmas Eve! ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/wink.gif) Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I just try to not let the commercialism break through my love of family, tradition and remembering who and why we celebrate in the first place. Hugs, Bobbie

Lynn, I hate to hijack your wonderful thread, but bobbie hit the nail on the head. bake some coffee cakes, sit around the tree, and have a hug fest. make some salt water taffy or some hard candies... do some togetherness things, and stay out of debt. hold your lover close and tell quiet stories just over your breath until you say something really funny. then fall out of bed laughing at it. that is what the holidays should mean. -steve ------------------ "if a man claims to be a leader, but he has no followers, then he is just a guy out for a walk." -Marines Handbook http://www.soundclick.com/bands/stephenbixby

Hi Lynn, You've done a good job here. It's so true that Christmas seems to 'start' earlier every year - it'll soon be Christmas all year round - which it is if you think about it. Or at least if Christmas were viewed in the way it's supposed to be! We just had Christmas delivered to us over here (UK)from China on the biggest cargo ship in the world. Thousands of tons of cheap trash. I wondered what would have happened if it had sank! Nice one, Philip.

Hi Bobbie,
Thanks for sharing your feelings on Christmas. I venture most of us feel the way you do. What a neat idea to come up when you were just a teenager, (those tea rings made me hungry). Keep up the spirit and keep in touch.
Best, Lynn

Hi Steve,
We all celebrate Christmas in our own ways and it's pretty special and personal for all of us. I think we should celebrate it the way we want to and the way we believe. Commercialism sadly tends to drown out the true meaning.

Hi Philip,
Thanks for stopping by for a read and comment. Christmas all year, I sure hope not but perhaps the good will element of it. Not sure if you do things much differently than we do since Christmas seems to be so universal. Take care and enjoy your celebration in these upcoming days.
Best, Lynn

Lynnie ! Okay , I'll vote . The paranthetical ones have my vote. tunes/songs , really I could go with iether one. There oughta be a Law ! No advertising for Christmas 'til after thanksgiving... Though it hasn't come up yet , Please oh Please don't take out the missletoe...I wonder if there are any , under thirty , who even know who Sadie Hawkins is... I know , Sadie doesn't have much to do with Christmas , but ; tried to get me a kiss , once , because of missletoe . I didn't get one , but ; did get a really cool smile. It was summertime , so , I guess we all contribute to trying to "push" the season a bit. Very nice sentiment here, Petie ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/wink.gif)
Here we are wracking our brains today to write lyrics that rhyme and if we succeed, they'll end up in time as tommorrow's cliche's... Pete

Hi Pete (ie),
Thank you so much for voting. I asked for votes and most everyone who was kind enough to reply seem to miss that question/vote. So I do thank you and I am leaning that way since it flows better w/the first verse. Sounds like Sadie and that mistletoe might have the makins' for a song that you could write. Tis the Season my friend.
Best, Lynn p.s. I'll vote for that law.
