Hi Folks! Here's the news for the Southeastern MA chapter of Just Plain Folks: • Next Meeting - Take a Summer Vacation! • Road Trip Recap • Volunteer Performance Oppotunities • Who's Making noise? ------------------------------------------------------ Next Meeting Will Be Monday, August 1 ------------------------------------------------------ We've decided since we had such a busy June with our Meeting at PIXY103 and our Road Trip Showcase, that we're taking the month off from meeting. Plus the first Monday would be the fourth...so honestly, who of us would come anyway! Admit it..... We'll be back Monday August 1 with something cool as usual. Plus we'll get the works really rolling on some of our new projects. ------------------------------------------------------ THE ROAD TRIP RECAP ------------------------------------------------------ What an incredible night at Sean O'Tooles on June 13! With 23 acts and over 40 performers, we rocked Plymouth! From folks pitching in and lending equipment to folks who traveled all the way from California to play for the night the show presented some amazing talent ranging from the hard rockers to the singer/songwriters, wailing blues harp to jamming djembe, from award winning musicians to first time performers... we were all in it together and lovin it. And you all got to meet our 'fearless leader' JPF founder Brian Austin Whitney. and as Kim put it so well in her post on the message board: "HUGE thanks to everyone who lent a cord, an amp, mic, kit and voice to make the night such a success!" ------------------------------------------------------ • Volunteer Performance Oppotunities ------------------------------------------------------ One aspect of a local JPF chapter is supposed to be a 'service' element... bringing music into the community through volunteer opportunities. We recently connected with Kerstin Delaney who runs LOSE THE BLUES, a volunteer organization in the Boston/South Shore area made up of performers who share their talents with people in need. They visit folks at nursing homes, hospitals and rehab centers. If you have music that you think patients would enjoy please let her know and she'll set you up! The patients LOVE to have visitors. You could play for a half hour, or an hour, or anywhere in between. It's a chance to make a difference in the life of someone in need. Note: This is open to artists of all types and skill levels. In the past they have had folk singers, a cappela groups, arts and crafts demonstrations, a 7yr old violin player, storytellers, even Irish step dancers. If you're interested, contact Kerstin Delaney at 617.912.3133 We've been asked if we would like to arrange a few acoustic performers to play for a group of nuns having a family picnic in Somerville on Sunday, August 21. If anyone would like to play for this event, contact Christine ASAP to gauge our interest at christine.mascott@verizon.net ------------------------------------------------------ WHO'S MAKING NOISE? ------------------------------------------------------ (send in your news and gig info for listing in the SEMA/JPF newsletter) Seth Richardson is performing August 3 with Missy Brodricki n NYC. Have fun in the big Apple Seth! www.missybrodrick.info The Drop Band with Christine and Paul Mascott will be performing Saturday August 6 as part of the '"From the Heart", Free Summer Concert Series for Our Troops', at the Plymouth Waterfront with some other great local bands from 4-9PM, right across from Brewster Gardens in downtown Plymouth!
