Hey folks this is the first installment of the Dusseldorf journals. My name is Leslie Morgan and I have volunteered to chapterize the big metropolis of Dusseldorf a.k.a Drizzledorf. I am originally from Abilene Texas but have been living here for longer than I'd like to admit and I really love it. I have a C&W band and do my best to make a meager living at it. I'm hoping to gather a lil' group together here to promote live music and indie artists. should anyone out there be close enough to join up with me please send word. and if you're too far but just want to say hi, please do.

I'll be coming to Germany for the World Cup. I was hoping to bring the guitar but I'm trying to juggle the hassle with the benefits.
I hope we do hook up and jam sometime.
I wish you well in your efforts in Drizzledurf.

Hi Leslie,
Welcome aboard! Maybe you can be the first person to successfully launch a chapter in Europe! It won't be quick, but we'll all help!
Thanks,
Brian

my first question is- where is the legend for the little icons- i have no idea what I'm doing. okay- to bring the guitar or not? hmmm I sometimes bring mine when i travel, but only when I'm going to be staying in one place a while and i have a little travel sized one too. if you're going to be very busy traveling from game to game it would probably be a pain, but if you really love to play at every opportunity bring it. what are the dates for the world cup? I know there are three games here in the area. Koln, Dortmund ?? something like that- all close. <font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">Originally posted by He Saw Barayna: I'll be coming to Germany for the World Cup. The first cup game is in early June, the 9th I believe. I'm not sure when the final is, early July I but I don't know the date. I'm doing a "Follow Your Team", TST, ticket for the US. That should be all 3 US games in round 1 and 1 in the next round assuming the US makes it into the cup.
After that, we're planning on travelling. My son is coming with me so we're looking at places to consider going to now. I won't know if there's a game in a venue near by you yet. The CONCACAF turniment is on going and places are not assured as yet.
I recognize the hassle of carting my guitar around. But, I'm hoping there are jams, sessions, whatevers that a tourist could sit in and have some fun. I've been messing around with some German songs but it's a lower priority right now. I'm thinking the boy and I travel light, one suitcase for us both, and the guitar. He'll be 19 and a strong enough back to carry my stuff.
I assume you do some German songs just for the fun of it. I've tried translating stuff like Ring of Fire and a couple of my songs and I'm picking up some stuff locally here as part of a Manochor. Oh well.
Anyway,
Danke

okay, let me know if you're in the area. If you like i can put you on our mailing list, then you'll know where we're playing. and no, i don't do any songs in German. Dein Deutsch muss ziemlich gut sein wenn Du in der Sprache Lieder schreiben willst. My German is not good. I won't even try to communicate with you in German since I don't want to take the time to translate. I enjoy singing and the Manochor is the first choir I've been in where we drank beer at rehearsals. It’s a good time and I’m exploring the culture of my fathers side. My first experience on stage was doing Beethoven’s 9th when I was a kid. Long, long ago.
What kind of covers do you do? Is your audience mixed or mostly German?
I’ve translated a couple of songs into German but my literal translations seem to cause more humor with German speakers then remind them of the original lyrics. Oh well. Maybe I’ll post my Ring of Fire translation for your comment and enjoyment.
I’ll try to say hello again before we leave. What’s the big tourist thing near you?
Prost

Hey there, to answer some of your questions: my audience is almost all German, occasionally a foreigner will get lost and stumble onto one of our gigs but mostly it's just Umlauts. and what's to see. Well I suppose you have to see the Dome in Cologne. and the altstadt in Duesseldorf "the longest bar in the world" don't take that literally. just lots and lots of bars within a few blocks. and hmmm I'm not very good on tourist attractions I have to admit, but I'm sure you're going to bring a Go Germany or similar guide that will help you to not miss the spots. But honestly I don't think there's all that much in this area that people come to see, enjoy the games and the life, maybe you can find a bar doing a jam session and join in. maybe we'll have some gigs close enough for you to stop by. Let me know <font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">Originally posted by He Saw Barayna: My German is not good.
