I saw a world wide idol contest a few years ago that had all the winners involved. Do they still broadcast this show in other countries around Europe?

Hi Brian
They do the idol shows all over europe; I know about UK, Austria, Germany and Switzerland. Music Star, Super Star, Star Search, Starmania, etc.
In Switzerland the second round could be the last for years.
In Germany different private TV stations have own shows. So they have also a Comeback Show, etc.
Sorry, but I don't like this shows, cause good artists are not born on stage, and good music is timeless and has no borders.
this is why I like the independent artists. Pascal from LabelTV.com

Dzendobry Agako. I was in Warsaw 2 years ago - loved the people! France has made a fine art of the "idol" idea, being one of the first major countries to run with it. Star Academy is still a huge money-spinner, and the winners actually go on to have careers. There have been numerous variations. RTL in Luxembourg runs one for Belgium too, with major exposure. ------------------ Michael Leahy The Accidental Lyricist http://michael-leahy.indiegroup.com

in Spain they air "operación triunfo" it had some sucess in the first edition, actually many people in spain follow the program but consider them "fake" oportunistic artists so they move among the fans and detractors. i have not felt tempted to participate in any of the castings.

The weird thing about the Belgian editions of Idol was that the winners of the first two series were absolutely no hit-commercial potential, but reŕl musicians who knew what they wanted to do ...
The first winner was Peter, a metalhead who ended third place on the World Idol - competition with a Nirvana song ... he released two cd's here in Belgium, which are not a commercial succes ... but actually good heavy rock albums.
The second winner was Joeri, a guy who chose very unknown songs during the live-finals and released a pretty impressive singer/songwriter album afterwards.
The big commercial hits were in both Idol-competitions the runner-ups or even third or fourth places ...
