Hello everyone, My name is Esther Grondahl and I'm a Singer/Songwriter here in Tampa. I just started recording a few of my songs, simply because I've always loved to sing, but put my dreams on the backburner. I teach elementary school music by day. I am in the process of getting equipment so that I can play in coffee shops and low-key venues. I will need to get a keyboard, microphone & speakers. Does anyone have suggestions of which ones to get. Also, if I show up to the Oct. 23 event, and I don't yet have my keyboard, is that bad? Thanks for your time. I'm excited about joining. Esther You can hear my songs at: http://www.myspace.com/esthergrondahlsolo

If you come to the meeting on the 23rd of October I can put you in touch with some folks that are very knowledgeable about keyboards etc.Dan,Cindy or Frank will know for sure. There are also a few others that will be able to help you out.Loads of intelligent, talented folks in this chapter. Not having your keyboard is not a sin. Many folks come a time or two just to see what is going on.Weather you perform or not is entirely up to you.Hope to get to meet you on the 23rd! Jerry

Esther,
Come to the meeting on Sunday and get a helathy sampling of opinions on what gear you should buy. If you talk to five people you'll probably get five distinct opinions, but you might be able to hone in on specific brands and model numbers. My suggestion is to buy the best gear you can afford...maybe just a little bit more than you can afford. When it comes to musical equipment there is a lot of truth in the old adage, "...you get what you pay for..."
My take?
Mic: Shure SM58 or Beta57 PA gear: Mackie mixer, Mackie powered speakers, or Bose if you're in the chips Keyboard: Not my area of expertise but it would be hard to go wrong with Roland, Korg, or Akai
Good luck,
Mike

Make that "healthy" sampling of opinions...looks like I got caught between healthy and hellacious!
