I've been fairly succesfull with a Mackie, but the hardware noise from the computer itself is so distracting. kckurtwood Serious Contributor K Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 65 Saint Petersburg, FL, USA	I have been using the Alesis USB for about 6 months. Eventually I'll get a CD out of it. In the meantime, it is really low noise and works well with ProTools and Audacity. I have not tried the Steinberg software that comes with the mixer. I use an AT2020 condensor mic thru a ART Tube Pre for the vocal tracks and a collection of SM57s and 58s for miking guitars with good results. Use the built in Low Pass filter and set the channel pre amp slightly below max.

Goatee 1 Serious Contributor G Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 74 Everett,Wa, USA	no matter what one uses always isolate the tower in two ways build or get a simple wood box and put the tower in the isolation box or as many do unplug the fan just a half hour or hour max this will solve most noise problems but everyone should use a simple isolation box use vents so it don't heat up to musc the easy way is to have the PC tower in a nother room or close near by simple extension cords are cheap so isolate the beast and no more problems dan
