A good friend's amp has finally "given up the ghost" and she needs a replacement.
Her criterion is:
At least 30 watts RMS (she plays in an acoustic trio and prefers to use her amp as a monitor, running the line-out into their PA. Most likely will set it up on a bar stool.)
As light-weight as possible (She recent had a serious spinal injury - car wreck - and can't lift much)
As inexpensive as possible (due to the previously mentioned car-wreck, her finances are extremely tight).

I like those tilt back bass amps, the ones that are shaped like a monitor cabinet. The 12 inch speaker style usually isn't very heavy. Hartke makes one for about $250, Fender makes one for about $400, and Ibanez makes a ten inch speaker with a 35 watt amp for about $150. Carvin makes one also, I don't know the price, but I use a Carvin amp with my 4x10 cabinet and I like the sound. Hope this helps, Mike ------------------ Mike Dunbar Music

I use an SWR "working man's ten" that I picked up used for $200. I think they usually go for closer to $400 new. It's small and lightweight, and sounds great in a small venue or for practicing. I've also been impressed by Hartke amps.

The Carvin is the perfect small gig amp, my jazz bassist friend loves it and uses it all the time, and he has a hand-built designer amp he used to use. My jazz guitarist friend also has one for practice and gigs, and swears by it.
