Those lowly percussionists. They have no board to go to. This seems the most obvious place, so --- any percussionists out there? Tell us about your instruments! What's your most unusual perc instrument?

I'm not a real percussionist, I just play one in the studio. I've got three tambourines; an egg shaker that I like a lot; several other shakers, including one of my favorites, a pringles can with rice in it; a pair of seed pods from South America that have a cool shaker sound, a fish (I don't know how to spell it...guiro?); a cabasa (also spelling?); some nice claves; a chime tree; and sleigh bells. Over the last year I've been gigging with an incredible percussionist named Lamdar Singh, whose main instrument is tablas...he's a 1st generation Burmese, whose late father was a serious percussionist in his own right. Anyway, Lamdar has been teaching me polyrhythmic stuff that I've transferred to the congas, bongos and doumbek...not all that good at it, mind you, but hope to be one o' these days! One neat thing about percussion is that ANYTHING can be used...Lamdar has been known to use cardboard boxes, plastic 5-gallon paint buckets, various sizes of PVC pipe...nothing is "unusable" to this dude...and it all sounds great! ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/biggrin.gif) ------------------ "Legalize Freedom!"
