I used to sub for a drummer and bass player here in Nashville. It was the same guy! His name is Ray Mann, he's since moved to the Northwest. He'd tap the bass with his left hand and hold a stick in his right. He was pretty darn good! Tight as a cop's cuffs. A song he played on hit the country charts and I tried to convince him to contact the Country Music Hall of Fame so it could be recorded for posterity, probably the only hit played by a "simultaneous" (as he called it) player.

Does anyone else know of someone who does this? I saw a bass player in Bill Chase's old band play trumpet at the same time in Iowa back in the 70's, but never another bass/drum player.

You've got to know your limitations. I don't know what your limitations are. I found out what mine were when I was twelve. I found out that there weren't too many limitations, if I did it my way. -Johnny Cash
