Hello everyone-
in the last couple years, have any of you bought either a: a)Marshall Solid State amp or a b) Randall Solid State amp?
Do you still have it? Or did you return the thing? And if you did return it, why.? I'm not looking for tone dissatisfaction, but rather all-out failure/problems with the functioning of the amp itself...
thanks alot if you can answer this one

Hi there - I haven't had either, but a bandmate had a Randall that gave him nothing but problems. It's been in the shop numerous times and has failed him on several big occasions. A shame, since he was so excited when he got it. I'll stick with my old Mike Matthews Dirt Road Special, thank you very much.

Guildslinger- thanks for the tip. Just found out last night, turns out that my old Marshall is repairable and I am thrilled...but when I go shopping again I may ask you about Mike Matthews amps. Small business or home-made? Sounds cool. thanks again

It's an old thing - the guy apparently worked for, or founded, Electro-Harmonix, better known for effects pedals now. The Dirt Road Special is a little kick-a** amp that I'm just now finding out is a bit of a cult favorite. Monster sound if you can find one. I bought mine for 25 bucks - just re-soldered some connections this past weekend (the victim of my 14-year old and his friends' rough handling and 20 years of abuse) and it sounds great. Good luck!

Ahhhh..memories..
In the 70's the Mike Matthews "Freedom" amp was the first reliable solid state ac/dc amp..not loud but cool sounding and you could run a truck over it and still it would work..
I'll bet mine is still out there working somewhere..I think it cost about 200 bucks...lost a little grey matter since then...
