I've been active as a composer of concert music and musical theater for much longer than I've been active as a singer/songwriter (a long story), so my successes of late have been in the concert world for the most part.

* "Free-the-Music.Com", written by lyricist/librettist William Strauss (of the Capitol Steps) and composers Bo Ayars and me, has been picked up by CrimsonBlue Productions. CrimsonBlue is trying a two-prong approach, aiming for professional productions as well as renting the show out to high schools.

* Capstone Records recently released "Diverse Light, Volume 2", a collection of string quartets by members of the Long Island Composers Alliance, performed by the Meridian String Quartet. I produced the CD, and it includes my "Strange Loops".

* Last October my Violin Concerto was premiered at the 16th Dresden Days of Contemporary Music festival (Dresden, Germany). Florian Mayer was the soloist, and Milko Kersten conducted the Dresden Sinfonietta.

* This October, I will conduct the premiere of "Symphony for Band", which was commissioned by the U.S. Naval Academy Band for its 150th anniversary.

* Palgrave/MacMillan (St. Martin's Press) will publish "Writing Musical Theater", a book I am writing with my colleague Allen Cohen. The book is geared to composers, lyricists, and librettists.

I'll post singer/songwriter successes when they happen....I'm optimistic!
