My second full-length stage musical (for which I wrote music and lyrics--24 songs in all) had a 12-show run as part of the NYC Midtown International Theatre Festival this summer. Some of the quotes by critics are great: “Melodically exciting”…“Music is lovely and emotionally evocative”…“It is the score that provides the strongest reason for attending.” “Strong, effective opening”…“A dynamic opening number”…“The opening number—as the mill workers resolve to strike—segues between passionate solos, lively choral harmonics, and beautiful rounds” “All of the strike numbers are particularly strong and explosive, finding their dramatic arcs quickly and effectively” “‘Negotiation Rag’ adds a sprightly comic touch to the proceedings”…“‘Negotiation Rag’ [is a] riotous showstopper” “The finale, ‘One Day,’ ends the action on a harmonious note in anticipation of a better tomorrow” In addition, a few of my lyrics have appeared in cabaret acts at the NYC club, Don't Tell Mama, several professional actors are using my songs as audition pieces, and I've just been accepted into the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop in NY. A banner year--and it's not over yet! --Jill ------------------ Jill Marshall-Work ASCAP composer/lyricist www.musicalmakers.org/jillmarshallwork.html

This is awesome news. I read your work here and at another site. I never comment, but I should because it's so damn good. Theatre writing has a different set -- and in my opinion a more difficult set -- of rules than pop and country.
Way to go! BB

Harriet & BB-- Thanks for the encouraging words. It;s exciting when something starts to happen and you discover there's someones beside your immediate family who wants to hear your songs!

Congratulations, Jill!!! In a city like New York, I'm sure that was no easy feat. It must have been great! ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/smile.gif) Ashleigh
