I spoke to Laurie at the Ellicott Manor and let her know that as of today we have 10 performers and we are still looking to start at 8pm and run through 11 pm. We can stay as long as we like provided we are out by 4am she said! I think we would be done before that. See you all next week!

Me TOO! By the way I wanted to tell Mike that I was able to pick up monitors so you wouldn't need to lug yours. I should be all set sound wise. I will be getting to the Manor at around 6:30 so if someone would be able to come out and help with a sound check I would appreciate the help. I wouldn't mind help with equipment either.....hint, hint..... Any help would be appreciated. thanks, Jim

Sounds like we should plan on 3 - 4 song sets, right? Or are we going to do 2 songs and repeat in two rounds?

I was going to plan on everyone doing two or three songs and then repeating the play list. I would say that everyone should have 6 songs ready and most likley they would get to play them all. With 10 performers playing 6 each, with each song averaging 3 minutes, that is 180 minutes of music. So three hours worth of tunes. With taking a few seconds for change overs and introductions, I think we would be fine.
We are scheduled 8-11 but we can go later.
What does everyone think about 6 songs and doing two sets of three? Too many? Should we stick to four songs? If everyone could limit the songs to about three minutes per song, it should work fine. I personally would like to do some covers in my set, would anyone frown on that?
I also would like to see if at the end of the night, we all could do a group jam on a song!.... Any ideas????.................. (NOT--->We Are The World)

Hey - the group jam thing sounds like a blast. But how many channels do you have in your board to plug everybody in? I have a small sub mixer I can bring that would add an additional 4 channels if that would help.

Jim, I certainly don't have any problem with you doing covers. In fact I hope that you do. I'd like to hear how you "Make 'em your own". I'll probably do a couple myself. Frank Vassallo

I think that doing a few in a row would give everyone a chance to get into a groove and get comfortable. I would like to say that everyone should get two sets of three. How would that sound? Hopefully if each person plays their set they would want to stick around to listen to everyone else.

Jim, I know it can't happen this showcase, but it would be interesting for some of us to do covers of other members in the showcase. Hmmm.

my first thought about covers? sounds like an open mic thats's just my opinion I know but I (think) that JPF is about "song writers" but don't let me stop ya (just my 2 cents)

I usually do "songs I wrote and songs I wish I'd wrote." I see nothing wrong with mixing an occasional cover (read "interpretation," not "attempt to sound like the record")in with the original stuff. I also think that ending the evening with everyone jamming on an original that is not familiar to all would be too much of a challenge. ("We aren't the World...")

My First question/ comment..........to Dean: I really wish you were going to be there and I want to do a cover of one of your tunes. I say this with the highest respect. Personally I think you are one of the best writers I know! I love your songs and No Effect Music. I was hoping to maybe do Midnight Ride! Also, why is it that you won't be there? I know what you mean about doing covers and the "open mic" thing. My problem is I only have about 13 originals that I would play out at this point, and one of them is a christmas song. I have played most of them at our meetings but there are a few that I haven't ever played out anywhere becasue I don't think they are good enough.
Secondly to Stu: I have a 12 channel board but would need everyone to bring their own guitar cable for a group jam. The additional mixer would help if everyone wanted to plug into that and then into my board since there wouldn't be room with the extra mics. I also only have three mics but I am in the process of getting a couple more. I was going to look at the Shure SM-57 but if you or someone could suggest one I would appreciate any suggestions. I made up an order list of performers and I think it will work really well. I will have it on Wednesday at the show. I think we could run through the order twice and everyone would do two or three songs per turn. I know Shelia can't get there till after 9pm so I have to put her toward the end of the set. Last comment/question....to Sam: you said at the meeting that you might be able to get there early. Would you be able to come and help me with the sound check? I amgoing to be there setting up at 6 or 6:30. I am bringing sound and lights. If you could be ther around 7 or 7:30 that would be a big help. Thank you all!!

There is room for last minute "folks" and we will accomodate all. If we end up getting three or four more people before wednesday I will set up the list accordingly. I would love it if you would play and am I sure I speak for many others as well!!!

Yea I am very pleased with them so far. They were cheaper than the SM58's by almost half. The only thing I wish it had was a shut off like the dynamic version has. These are the performace series. I guess that's what they are called.

You will be added right now! I look forward to seeing and hearing you!!
TO ALL: I have made a set list by pulling names out of a hat. We will use that order and then repeat it a second time. PLEASE have at least 6 songs ready because you may get 3 songs per set. ALSO please make sure you try to stay at 3 minutes or under for each song. If you know you want to do a long song, then count it as two. Basically plan on getting about 10 minutes MAX per set. This will make everything run smooth. The Bar doesn't have a problem if we run over but I know almost everyone has to get up for work so let's try to stick to that. Thanks, Jim

We want you to dress up Rick. Sam said he would if you would...... That would be fun if we all came as our favorite musician! I guess I would have to come as the fat Elvis!
