Ahhh,
It is a matter of prioritisin' efficiencies in grammer versus the need for more information. Up north ya'll think nothing of putting something like this on a menu: "Garden fresh, select medley of baby field greens with a snappy ginger-lime vinegrette...."
Down here, that is "bush hog salad". You will never find a "vinegrette" on a restaurant menu in the south because ... well, it just doesn't seem the proper place to list femine hygine products.
We will however, go into great detail when it really counts, "Bring me a fresh pulled, inside white meat, pork pig bar be cue sandwich, with a side of beans and grits."

Howdy Dawg, My son Danny and I are considering making the trip depending on work schedule and finances. Time will tell, I guess. We'll talk it over some more this weekend. Would be nice to meet everyone face to face. Tampa Stan is the onliest one I've had that pleasure with so far. Anyway, we shall see what we shall see. Steve

I remember the day I realized that things just aren't the way they used to be in these parts. It's the first time I ordered tea and they asked, "sweet or unsweetened". As Corey said, though, there's still no ordering hot tea. We haven't slipped that far yet. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/wink.gif) It's an awful long trip, but I'll see what I can do about making the festivities. Sounds like a good time and a good chance to put faces to names. Randy ------------------ http://www.songramp.com/homepage.ez?Who=RandyB

Okay, I have googled Pineyfest and looked at y'all's photos (and it was nice to see what some of you looked like, and realize there's people seriously writing and playing music who are at least as old as me). So now, some more questions. What happens at Pineyfest? Is there a gate fee?

Joe,
There is no gate fee. There are individual fees (like for a hotel room) but we are still working to get the lowest fees possible.
Mark Barnett will conduct personal tours for very small groups of people that will last most of a day. He will take you to meet some of the hottest professional songwriters in Nashville, have a cup of coffee with them, ask any questions you wish.
The dinner show on Friday night will have a modest fee to cover the food and beverage, which is excellent, by the way. The dinner show will be recorded live and cd's will be available to those who wish them.
Hope this helps.

Randy,
There will be a pretty good contingent coming out from Nashburg, so some ride sharing is a possibility.

Did I read on a post about having workshops or was I just dreaming? If so, can you post some information about that, please, kind sir!
"Grits is one of those country-boy words that is both singular and plural-like deer, elk and sheep. I think the singular is appropriate when there's a modifier that makes it clear one is talking about something specific. Like, 'Grits are good for you, but these here grits is tasty.'"~~Joe Wrabek

Hi Tricia,
You are right. There WILL be workshops and seminars on songwriting and the business side of songwriting in the afternoons. I will be posting more info on that as soon as the details are firmed up. Last year we had: Barbara Cloyd (who auditions and books the entertainment for the Bluebird) did song critiques with Amy from Almo Irving Music Publishing. Rollie Mains did a session on getting your songs into TV and movies. Rollie is head of the Nashville Composers Association and the Film Music Network Jerry Vandiver and Gracie Hollumbe did a session based on their great workbook, YOUR FIRST CUT. Razzy Bailey and Mike Dunbar did a session on th Nashville Numbering system and a view from the inside. Charlie Craig (who has cuts on about every Alan Jackson cd) did a session.
We will post the details for this year as soon as we have them locked in. I can guarantee they will be awesome!!

We've heard from several more good folks today. Ria, Patty, Tricia and Marge are gonna be joining us.
I promise, you don't want to miss this if you can help it.
Let me say I do understand Dan Windowman not being able to make it, having just started a new job (at a women's prison!!) Way to go, Dano! I have seen the videos. Woo Hoo!

LOL Dawg! Nope, sadly enough I ain`t gonna make Piney this year either. Just started the new gig you speak of, and haveth no vacation time yet. Wanted to get into a job with alot of security and good bennies and this ticket looks as good as any. Now if I could just have a few cuts...then a few #1`s...then I could retire fat and happy. (Okay-fatter, happier, and earlier!) To all who attend...take care of all my most "excellentest" friends, so`s when I do roll into Piney 4(hopefully!)I`ll resume the partying that the Original Pineyfest started. It`s crappy to not make it, but it smiles me up to know y`all are still saving a spot on the front porch swing. Thanks Bobbie and Dawg, for again going above and beyond the call in setting things up. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/smile.gif) Dano. P.S.---DAWG, Haven`t seen any of those tapes yet, but I`m sure I`ll see alot of things in person that`ll make me go hmmmm....or EEEEUUUUWWWWWWW!!!!!!! ------------------ www.angelfire.com/music3/danolyrics

Dog and Bobbie:
I am planning on coming. If ya'll have extra space for a PA boy. I figured its like 914 miles from Philly. Two day drive down. Its on my schedule. Wanted to fly but wanted to bring my guitars and mandolin so I figure if the good lord is still smiling on me and I didn't screw up big time on the domestic front. SInce this my first time coming I am filled with expectiations so I guess I will tell you what they are and you can set me right.
I expect to get some time to play some of my songs I expect to get to get the opportunity to play or back other people when they perform I expect there will be refresnments (milk and cookies and the like, ha ha) I expect to get the opportunity to play my songs in front of my peers and in front of some body or two who have something to do with Nashville. I expect to have some good bs sessions.
I expect to get my stuff critiqued from peers and pros alike.
I expect to pay 45 dollars a night at the hotel
I expect to see a lot of people I met on the board
I expect to pay some kind of fee.
Please tell me how wrong or right I am?
Thanks....see you soon...Paul

Hello Paul,
and thanks for the questions. Please understand that since we neither charge nor pay for Pineyfest appearance, a lot of the talent is not confirmed until the last minute. Hey, they try, but if a paying gig comes up, they go with our gratitude and blessing for considering us.
Now lemme try to answer some of your questions..
At this point, based on early reservations, there are three of you coming from the Phila/South Jersey/PA area ... you, Kaley Willow and Paul Pedersen. Since you are bringing a lot of instruments and Paulie is talking about bringing his entire drum set (in addition to guitars) I don't know if ride sharing is feasible, but perhaps ya'll can link up and convoy down.
I expect to get some time to play some of my songs Definately!!!
I expect to get to get the opportunity to play or back other people when they perform This is a little trickier. Since Molly's has full professional stage sound and lighting, and we are trying to record everyone so all can get a cd of their performance "live", folks who do not have charts will be hard to back. In addition, if everyone plugs-in, in a different place, it makes mixing and mastering a nightmare. We will see what we can work out, but please understand the difficulty of what you are asking and how many folks will not have charts.
I expect there will be refresnments (milk and cookies and the like, ha ha) There will probably be popcorn (free) and soft drinks (for sale). Friday night will be a professional dinner show, with a full catered dinner, two entrees, veg, starch, rolls, two deserts, and coffee or tea. That is $25.00 per couple or $15.00 a single. It will also be recorded with cd's for sale.
I expect to get the opportunity to play my songs in front of my peers and in front of some body or two who have something to do with Nashville. Yes!!!
I expect to have some good bs sessions. You get out of those what you put into them.
I expect to get my stuff critiqued from peers and pros alike. Pros.
I expect to pay 45 dollars a night at the hotel Yes, plus tax.
I expect to see a lot of people I met on the board Yes!
I expect to pay some kind of fee. There is no fee for Pineyfest. I do not consider this a seminar. This is a songwriter's gathering or party. However, a few of the individual events, like the Friday night dinner show and Marc-Alan Barnett's tour do have a seperate cost. Note: There are a limited number of slots available for Marc-Alan's tour. He picks you up in the morning and takes you to coffee and breakfast with a couple of pro-writers ... then to a record label's writing room to watch (quietly)how pro writers do a co-writing session. Then lunch with a few more pro writers, then maybe into a studio to see how a demo is cut.
Hope I have answered your questions ok. Please feel free to call Bobbie or me collect anytime, at (931) 729-7008 or 7009.

Dear Kaley,
I fear that some well-intentioned, but sadly misinformed yankee has been filling your head with needless worries.
Southern starch is not at all like Yankee starch. Down here, we first deep fry our starch in bacon grease so that it will be pliable and to cook out all the chloresteral.<g>
You can trust us. We been taking good care of yankees for about 150 years.

Dawg: Thanks for answering my questions. You exceeded my expectations. Checked with Kaley and we probably won't be able to car pool. And I was considering flying. THat means that I can only bring my mandolin. Is there a place to rent a guitar for a few days?

No need to rent, unless you prefer to. I'll be glad to loan you one for a few days. Just let me know if you want an acoustic or an electric acoustic.

C'mon up... You might want to bring plenty of Jack with you. Tennessee has some of the highest hard liquor tax in the country. It costs almost twice as much here as in Atlanta.

I must warn you. Bob Young does have a very nice Tak... and I have watched him abuse it on numberous occasions. He does not strum. He does not pick. He does not fingeroll. He flagellates the freakin' stings.
I have no idea how his guitar would react to a normal person. (just 'tween us)

----FLASH------
We have just learned that the long believed dead, King of the Delta Blues, BLIND LEMON PLEDGE has been discovered in a nursing home in Peoria Illinois. Mr. Plege, composer of such blues classics as "If I hadn'ta Killed the Bitch,She Just Would Have Done It Again" and the world famous blues "Death" song "I Didn't Get Up This Mornin'", is reported in good health for a man of 138 years. The producers of Pineyfest III, in their continuing effort to bring quality music to attendees while spending little or no money on the acquisition of same, have entered into negotiations with Mr Pledge to secure an appearance at Pineyfest III.
We will keep you abreast of the situation.
Thank You

Good Mornin' Dawg, Just couple of questions for you: 1) Is there a sign up requirement for those who wish to perform songs at Pineyfest? 2) I'll be bringing my Taylor 814CE accoustic/electric, but I was also wondering if the performance venue would have the ability to spin CD backing tracks to play and sing along with. My reservations are made and I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone. Larry ------------------ www.taylormadesongs.com

Actually I am more of a beer snob. I like a good ale or stout and if'n I can't age none o that, Just give me a PBR and sit me in the corner. Besides confidentially, the harder stuff and My GI tract haven't gotten along for years so I only drink that stuff sparingly. Still like it but I'm wiser about using it.

Hello Folks,
I just got confirmation that Barbara Cloyd will be doing live song critiques from 3:00 to 5:00 PM on Friday, the 18th. If you wish your song critiqued, bring a cd with that song only, and a lyric sheet. We will wrap the lyric sheets around the cd and place them in a box to be drawn blindly. There are always more songs than we can get to, so this is the only fair way.
For those of you who have not met Barbara, she is a very talented singer-songwriter (I Guess You Had To Be There, Lorrie Morgan) and she books the amateur talent for the Bluebird Theater. She also travels the country hosting songwriting seminars and has been gracious enough to participate in every Pineyfest.

MAJOR GOOD NEWS UPDATE! Just today, Sherrill Blackman confirmed that he will be coming to Pineyfest on Friday afternoon 1-2:30 to do a session on SONGPLUGGING: What does a plugger do and what does he look for in a song? He will bring some songs he has signed recently to use as examples.
Just last week, Sherrill was recognized with the Music Row Award for BEST SONGPLUGGER IN NASHVILLE. I will be posting some additional bio info on Sherrill soon so watch this space. Sherrill has several publishing companies and is the former President of the Nashville Publishers Networkm amongst other numerous accomplishments in his long and illustrious career in Music City. One reason for his respect in the industry is that he is absolutely honest. He tells you LIKE IT IS and pulls NO punches in his song evaluations. If he has 10 songs better than yours, he will tell you that. If your theme has been "done to death", you will find out, because Sherrill hears IT ALL. He will not be critiquing our songs, however, but using some that he has signed to contracts that he is actively pitching at the moment to use as examples. If you are, like a lot of us, hoping for that cut to make it to radio-play, you DO NOT WANT TO MISS HIM.
Following Sherrill on the Friday schedule will be Barbara Cloyd, one of THE best song critiquers in the business.
More very soon.
Bobbie

Major bad news for me Bobbie and Dawg. I have been wavering about coming down this time because I am so busy with a new business venture and with other summer activities planned, I really cannot afford the time away.
It sounds so good and such a great evolution from our first gathering in Detroit( wow that was 4 years ago already!!) Kudos to you both for creating something that I predict will someday be the pre eminent songwriter events in the world!
I'm gonna miss you all.
The good news is that if the business venture succeeds, maybe I'll buy a place in Nashville D)
If writing ever becomes work I think I'm going to have to stop

Just want to say I am looking forward to this. I am just wondering if you have any agenda in place yet. I will be arriving Wed the 16th and was wondering what I might be looking forward to. I want to bring my 15 year old along but she thinks it will be "BORING" (that's teenspeak I guess) Maybe if I have a better idea what will be going on she might change her mind. Bill, Things are coming together so fast right now. We just received confirmation this morning on Danny Arena and Sara Light. I am waiting for a call now as to how we can an internet connection for their powerpoint presentation. Bobbie and I will work on it this weekend in between me working the day job Saturday morning, Looking at a piece of property Saturday afternoon (with a stable, corral and spring on it), judging a talent show on Saturday night, doing the weekly shopping and listening to the Nascar race on Sunday.<g> The best incentive for a 15 year old girl might be to take her to http://www.thehudsonboys.com and look at their site. Nathan is 16 and Jamie is 18. They sing like the Everly Brothers and Jamie looks like a young Ricky Nelson. They'll be at Pineyfest. dawg PS. I am trying to catch up with Phil O'Donald today. He has been a pro songwriter for a long time and lives in the next small community over. He wrote Joe Diffie's current hit, "Tougher Than Nails". d [This message has been edited by greydog (edited 05-14-2004).]

Thanks for the info Dawg, and thanks for the link I'll give it a try. I really want her to get interested in music from a songwriters point of view. BTW, property sounds great. ------------------ www.soundclick.com/billrobinson Bill Live with a song in your heart

Bill...
I know how sacary a 15 year old girl can be..
BUT...these are cool folks at Pineyfest...she'll have a good time and alot of the folks (like me) really love kids and will make a fuss over her.
there's stuff to do in Dickson too so she'll be OK !

Newest Confirmed Additions to the Pineyfest Lineup....
Pineyfest will officially kick off at 1:00 PM on Thursday, June 17th with a presentation and question and answer period with none other than himself, Mr. Ralph Murphy of ASCAP.
If you have never gone to the ASCAP site and read "Murphy's Laws of Songwriting" you owe it to yourself to do so.
Ralph is humorous, straightforward, urbane and radical. You do not want to miss a chance to see him.
He will be followed by a short break to give folks a chance to say hello and introduce themselves, then from 3:00 to 5:00 PM will be a panel discussion on the state of the industry, the impact of the internet and digital recording, what labels are looking for in music and what to avoid. The panel will be filled by industry pros.
Come join us.
