I don't think a chapter here has been established so I'm willing to take the lead.
If someone has already started a group, please let me know so I can hook up with you.
I'm gonna try to make the Greenville SC leg of Brian's SE trip and coordinate with them as well so maybe all of us in SC can bolster our numbers and make Brian have a longer trip through SC next go round.

Mtezzy,

Actually SC is one of the very few states where we have zero chapters. I put Greenville down only because it's easy to get there from Atlanta and is in the way up to Asheville.. but so far not much interest has come up. I might be willing to come over to Columbia if the drive isn't so far that I couldn't get there, do the show and make it to Asheville for the next night's show. What's the distance like?

Brian

Brian,
Atlanta is about a 3 1/2 hour drive to Columbia with a straight shot down I-20 East. What I can do is see about finding a place downtown in an area called "The Vista" which is where Columbia's cultural and social center is located. There are plenty of venues there where singer-songwriters are welcomed in an open mic atmosphere. When I nail something down, you'll get the word ASAP.
From Columbia to Asheville NC is a straight shot down I-26 North, through Greenville-Spartanburg. That's about 2 1/2 hour drive. I've personally driven both legs several times and it's not too bad a ride at all. I'll be sending Jean all my info soon so we can make this all more concrete. I'll be in touch.

I think we're well on our way here. In tandem with forming the local chapter, I'm putting together a STATEWIDE network called the Carolina Music Industry Coalition (C-MIC, for short.) Through hours of emailing (my primary resource for now) people are responding. My goal is to spin-off JPF chapters as we grow in SC and use the Coalition to keep us tied together. I plan to have monthly meetings, showcases and seminars once we establish ourselves properly. Hope to have our first meeting within the next 2 weeks. I may end up travelling to each major region of the state to reach everyone, but it's all worth it if we can come together as a complete music community. Anyone on the NC and GA borders are welcome as well. I want this to grow into something bigger than life. I'll keep everyone posted!

Hi, Montez;
My name is James Simmons. I'm originally from Spartanburg, S.C., and now live in Carnesville, Ga. I am a member of the Atlanta chapter, but I am as close to Greenville as I am to Atlanta. If I can help organize or participate in a SC JPF, let me know! I am primarily a vocalist, but also play guitar and hane written a number of songs that I want to get out! Hope to hear from you soon and see you at the roadtrip showcases! James

James,
That would be great! I will know this week what venue we are using in Columbia. I'm gonna plan our first meeting for July 26th, the date Brian has scheduled for SC. I've had some responses for performing, but a handful at best. I've posted to the ATL board inviting them over too since we have a Saturday date. I thought more people might be flexible on Saturday.
You are welcome especially. Anyone named Simmons has to be someone I could count on!

July 26th we are meeting for sure. I got 20+ confirmed attendees! Number is growing everyday! They are begging me to perform. I thought about bagging the showcase due to low response, but people started coming out of the woodwork wanting to play here! I think it's a go now.
I'm waiting on word from Univ. of South Carolina contacts on POSSIBLY meeting & playing on campus somewhere. Keep your fingers crossed, that would be so cool! I'll let ya know soon our time and venue.

Our meeting tonight went very well!
We had a great turnout for our first time out. We will be meeting on the 4th Wednesday of every month from now on at the New Brookland Tavern.
We had all kinds of great input from our members on building and using our chapter in the local music community. We're looking forward to our future in South Carolina.

This group is primed and ready for South Carolina! Another great meeting on Aug 27!
We've got plans that are coming together like glue. We're planning our own "mini-roadtrips" around SC. We'll let everyone know how things go.
