"A Chocolate Recipe" (C)W.L. "Bill" Cooper/ Idamarie Naelitz http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=32899 V-1 Once I smelled the coffee didn’t take me very long. To take a look behind me and wonder what went wrong. Love starts out smooth as honey ends up mired in strife. Don't think I'll ever figure this crazy thing called life. Chorus Like a box of chocolates little riddle's tucked inside. Don't know what your gettin' 'til It smacks you 'tween the eyes Way to many heartaches where piece of mind should be. There ain't no rhyme or reason for A Chocolate Recipe. V-2 Can be rough and bitter or silky smooth and sweet and that riddle in the middle will knock you off your feet. But nothin’ seems to matter when your born to be a slave. To an appetite for chocolate that goes beyond the grave. Chorus Like a box of chocolates little riddle's tucked inside. Don't know what your gettin' 'til It smacks you 'tween the eyes Way to many heartaches where piece of mind should be. There ain't no rhyme or reason for A Chocolate Recipe. bridge Chewed on that old question to be or not to be Wound up with depression and blisters on my knees. V-3 Found faith up on the mountain, doubt down at the sea. Searched for the candy maker but the door was shut to me. Went to ask the mountain, and the mountain told me why. Took it to the ocean and he swore the mountain lied. Chorus Like a box of chocolates little riddle's tucked inside. Don't know what your gettin' 'til It smacks you 'tween the eyes Way to many heartaches where piece of mind should be. There ain't no rhyme or reason for A Chocolate Recipe. Tag The questions just keep naggin' but there's one thing that I know with my last breath I'll be beggin' for a Hershey bar to go.

Hey Bill: This song is like a box of chocolates - its keeping me guessing. I like it a lot. In particular, the third verse is killer! I DO get a weird vibe from it though. I can't figure out whether it should be sung in a deep, meaningful manner or a light, easy manner. Right now, it seems to be straddling both... My gut tells me the light approach is the way to go. Just one opinion..... I think the lyric is great. Only one line I'm not sure about: "til it smacks you between the eyes". It sounds fine but you kinda jump out of the chocolate box metaphor at that point - (unless you buy your chocolates at Spencers' Gifts ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/biggrin.gif) ) Anyway, I think you are on to something cool here.... Hi Scott, You caught exactly what I did from the lyric. I read it once and then I thought Nah-- so I read it again and I didn't know whether to make the music happy or sad. Then it dawned on me, that is exactly what life is. Bill got it right! Happy, sad, mysterious, weird, and totally unpredictable. so--- the music is supposed to take you through a few of those emotions. I think it would be a great song for a movie track done by a really expressive singer with a full orchestra and perhaps some tempo and style changes to fit the story fo the movie. I have to also agree that the melody and chord progression is up and down weird. Anyways-- it was a fun challenge and I loved doing it. Bill may change a few words to make it one way or another, but I kind of like it the way it is. Different! Hope someone else enjoys it as much as I enjoyed singing it. Idamarie

Yep--shades of Forrest Gump's famous line here for sure! I like the imagery, and the happy/sad works for me. I like the Spanish/classical-sounding guitar. (Am I naming it right?) "Smacks between the eyes" is the only image that isn't working for me, because that reminds me of shampoo in my eye. I'm rarely that off-target when I eat chocolate...LOL...takes a major accident to waste the stuff in my EYE. But I'm just too literal a thinker sometimes, so take me with a grain of salt. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/smile.gif) Life DOES "smack you 'tween the eyes." Thanks for the fun listen. I thoroughly enjoyed the book "Like Water for Chocolate," set in Mexico, and this song with the guitar accomp. reminded me of it. (They've already made the movie... and the movie did NOT do the book any justice) The song would be great in the right film. My friend Annette runs the Utah Chocolate Show; I don't know if it would be useful there, but I could send her the link, if you want. The show runs in November. http://www.utahchocolateshow.com Anyway...for what it's worth! Enjoy the wealth of today, and realize it is worth far more than all the money and possessions of tomorrow and beyond." -Brian Austin Whitney
