Hello everyone,
Here's a short mini-series of 2 minute stories that I've created for fun, family & friends! Mostly, it ended up being used as gifts to my newphews & nieces, hence the original title of "Uncle Michael's Bedtime Stories", which they all enjoyed.

The complete series is posted at SoundClick:
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/9/unclemichaelsshortstoriesmusic.htm

These short stories reflect a number of the most popular bible themes and are suitable for young kids... from about ages 5 on up to 95! Young at heart, that is! [Linked Image]

The story scripts were written by Rhonda DeYoung from the Colorado, USA. I did all the audio production including: music, sound track scores, narration, customized sound effects and mixing. During the production, I averaged about one story per month in my spare time over a period of about 7 months, which is now complete!

At one point towards the end of the project, I had all my working tracks backed up to a CD-RW, but not yet to a CD-R. Evidently something went wrong with my main backup disk and hence, I lost all my working files. [Linked Image]

All I have left was the final results in MP3 format, so I can't re-mix anything, but at least most of these files turned out to be of fairly good quality. [Linked Image]

Please let me know which story you (or your kids) enjoyed the most and why. Perhaps it was something about the music, the mix, the sound effects, the story, or something else? Thanks for checking these out and sharing your thoughts!

Thanks & have fun!
Michael

Uncle Michael,

I can only say I am enthralled and addicted to your story telling. Now I don't know how grown up people will relate to this but this big kid just loved them. They are all brilliant but Noah and The Flood could be my favorite, but then The Tower Of Babel, or then LOL. I'm stuck for a favorite so go and ask a grown up.

You should be telling these stories on Childrens television and certainly an Album full of such stories should be a must in any Christian family home.

My congratulations.

Gerry,
Thanks so much for your "vote" of confidence!
I'm glad there's still a few of us "big" kids around who can enjoy the simple things in life! [Linked Image]

Michael

P.S. By the way, SoundClick didn't have a "spoken word" category, so I put this under "acoustic vocals", which was the closest genre I could fit this in to.

Hi Michael,This is a great idea. You really should promote it to Chtistian stores, actually many stores do sell christian books .I bought a book by Charkes Stanley at Wal Mart, also bought bible coloring books there for the kids.Give it a try.You can even try selling on the internet.
I like everyone, and the sound is nice and clear.I also like the sound effect, spectacular. It's really hard to pick one out,I was realy impressed with Noah's Ark,the animal sound effects were so real
So were all the others.A great gift for kids
Instead of Chocolate Bunnies for Easter, this would be a perfect gift.
As you know Easter is definately not about bunnies,it is about our Risen Lord,Who
died for the sins of mankind,to save them ,from hell,if they accept Him.
Don't know how bunnies ever got in there.

God Bless you Michael,in all your endeavers, for our Lord and Savior

These are so beautifully done, I believe you will find many venues for this project which in turn will bless a lot of young people.

Have you ever listened to Ken Nordine? He was a pioneer in spoken word recording, doing mostly comedy. Your vocal delivery reminds me of him a little.

Great production. You should use this also as a demo for your production (now watch, I'll look at your site and find you are producer of the year somewhere, at least it wouldn't surprise me with this as an example.)

Good work.

Clairejeanne,
Thanks for all the great ideas and encouragement. I agree, "nice gifts for kids at Easter"! I gave a full set CD to all my wife's side nieces for this last Christmas, and I suppose these would make nice gifts for almost any occasion including birthdays! [Linked Image]

Mike,
Ken Nordine... sounds cool, I'll have to look him up sometime. Thanks for your "thumbs up" on my production on these! That's a comliment that's always very much appreciated! Thanks!!

Kaley,
Glad you liked what you heard so far. It's tough to get a better compliment than "wonderful", so maybe I'll just quit while I'm ahead! [Linked Image]
Thanks for checking these out!

[ Posted this reply in the usual way and the above happened - don't know why ?]

Michael
Excellent idea for vocal entertainment
There is an added benefit that the coice is clear enough for non-english speakers to follow raising the possibility of Language self-tuition where the learner can follow the dialogue from a book or just advance their pronunciation skills
Possibilities are endless
Good thinking
Tony
[ PS; Always wondered why the word Phoenetic isn't spelt the way it sounds?]

Hey Tony!
Thanks... good idea about the "self-tuition"
learner. I suppose that would work as well for kids as non-english speaking adults.
Before I lost all my backing track (working) files, I was even thinking of making this available in various foreign languages. That would be a larger project and would be nice to have some backing from a good publisher. [Linked Image]

M.B.

Hello Uncle Michael!

Finally got a chance to listen to all seven stories. Couldn't get the rugrats to sit still. They were grumpy.

These are lovely. Now you need an artist to do brightly colored picture books to go with it. I am imagining preschool age. These would be ideal for soccer moms who have younger children languishing in the car!

I think my favorite was "The New Heaven and Earth". The sound of horses and fighting was effective. I think the reason I liked it is because there are very few children's stories which deal with the book of Revelations.

Thanks, Uncle Mikey!

Vondelle,
Thanks! Yes, "The New Heaven & Earth" is also one of my favorite ones. It sure took a bit of work to perfect that short battle scene with the horse & rider. I think I used at least a half dozen different sound effects and eventually found the best way to orchestrate them... lot's of panning and volume control settings! Glad you liked it and thanks again for your input and encouragement! [Linked Image]
