Greetings from central Florida, My name is Al Alvarez and I am the Tampa Bay Chapter Coordinator for JPF. The reason for my post is that my wife Becky and I will be visiting Sydney for a week and I would love to have the opportunity to get out and catch some live performances while in town. We'll be doing the tourist thing also so any info on must see Sydney landmarks would also be appreciated. I'm not a big music producer or label executive but I have helped to build one of the most active and long lived chapters in the Just Plain Folks organization. I have been to the JPF Music Awards in Los Angeles and have a pretty good insight into the Independent music scene here.I would love to meet some folks in and around Sydney to swap stories and just make new friends. If anyone is interested in forming or helping to form a chapter I would be glad to brainstorm with you and keep in touch as you grow. We arrive April 30th but will probably be recuperating that day due to the 20 hour trip, but we don't leave until May 8th so we have all week and the next weekend. Keep Strummin' Al Alvarez www.aandrproductions.com [This message has been edited by Al The Pal (edited 04-17-2006).]

Howdy Wirdaz, Thanks for the kind reply. I guess we like to do a little of everything. When in Mexico we went deep sea fishing, exploring the pyramids, jet skiing, shopping, museums, a little of it all actually. Of coarse there's the night life too. I'm looking forward to getting out to see some of Sydney's indie artists. Are there any clubs, bars, pubs that you could recommend? Al www.aandrproductions.com

Thanks for the link Wirdaz. I love the picture of the gorgeous valley where your home sits. Usually we will rent a car for travel. Not sure this time, we are playing it by ear. As far as the sixth that may very well be a good possibility. We would love to hang with you and the Mrs. at a wine and Jazz fest. We only have one week end in town however and Im waiting to see what kind of contacts we are making to meet with concerning JPF and the possibilities of forming chapters in Australia. As for horses, my wife and I have both ridden on vacations. Mostly trail horses. I really wish we had another weekend so I could tell you yes now but lets see how things pan out. Al

W- Is there a radio station in the Sydney area that will accept and consider playing music on Indie CDs? I would love to round up an assortment of local indie CDs and visit them while in town if one exists. In Tampa Bay its WMNF community radio. On Thursday and Friday mornings they interview local artists or artists who are traveling through and either play their cuts or they play live on the air. Very cool actually. They are truly community owned though so not under the rule of the major radio conglomerates. Check them out at www.wmnf.org For the independent thinker. Keep Strummin' Al www.aandrproductions.com

W- Thanks for staying on top of things as we progress. I talked with the Mrs. and she loves the idea of coming out and taking a drive away from town. Although I can sleep anywhere she's not much for roughing it though, so how far are the closest accomodations to your place? Hotel, Motel, Guest House, Bed and Breakfast, Inn? You should have seen her face when I mentioned horses. She lit up like a star. And the wine and jazz event sounds like a nice affair either way. It doesnt have to be a blow out to be enjoyable. It's really nice to have someone reach out and make us feel welcome. Thank you. Al

Wirdaz, You can find a brief bio on me at www.aandrproductions.com go to the "about us" page. Look around my site and you can pretty much get a handle on the kind of promotions I get involved with. As far as what we want to do. All the tourists stuff. We'll hook up on a city tour, see the local sights, the Bay, The Rocks, The Beaches etc. Also just want to get a feel for the city and the local music scene. Hit some restaurants of coarse. Do some shopping. The invitation that you have extended is definately at the top of or list. It gives us a chance to see some of the country side as well as get to meet local folks. As for the radio station. I have a call in now with the program director for the local community station hoping he will want to do a CD swap with a Sydney station. I need a over the airwaves station however. A station where folks can hear whats played on radio, in the house, in the car etc. I'll let you know how things progress. Keep Strummin' Al

W- You are so cool.. for all you do. Yes, I did get the cc's thanks for getting in touch with them. If we do get an interview maybe it should be with both of us as it is a trans continental connection. If any thing comes of this we will need a strong contact in the Sydney area. Are you up for it? If not, that's cool too, every region needs contacts. Leadership is the hardest commodity to find. As far as the bio goes... I am and have always been a promoter first. I got involved in the music scene as a promoter, although I was a closet musician. My desire was and is to produce live shows of local aretists. Still is. As a songwriter I think I have potential but as a promoter I think I ROCK. For every sparrow there is a nest. From small seeds grow tremendous trees. Al
