We had a great meeting last night and we decided a couple of things. 1.) the first thing we want to put on the agenda is enabling singer songwriters to better pursue what they do 2.) we want to find a venue to get the monthly jp folks show case going again 3.) we would like to try and get internet videos going from different venues in Indy If I've missed anything let me know. Next meeting is Wed Dec 3. BTW I did get an email asking if we could do this on another day and I'm hip to working it however It will have to be pretty much tues - thurs for me and I know that the first tues is bad for the Red Key. I definitely want to keep it consistent. Get a date and stick with it so that I don't have trouble managing my calender (aka remembering where I'm supposed to be and when) I look forward to seeing you all next month. Mikel

Just a few more items from the November meeting. As mentioned, we discussed shooting videos of local JPFolks events, e.g. the soon to be revived JPFolks Showcase. One reason is really very simple, and it has to do with creating "product", as they say. There are "Open Mic" events going on all the time in Indy, and there are many excellent singer/songwriters who frequent these venues. The best way to validate that fact is via high quality multimedia recordings. I have personally been to two "Open Mic" nights in the past six months that were simply stunning. Those performances should have been captured and made available to promote the artists, the songs, and the venues. Of course, capturing live performances doesn't just happen. It takes equipment, personel, planning, etc. However, assuming those obstacles are surmountable, the finished video is a very valuable item. Another point was mentioned, related to all of the above. There are existing internet multimedia feeds that leverage exactly this sort of opportunity to promote indie artists. One that comes to mind is "thebasement.com.au" (Australia). The range of artists is broad, to match the diversity of taste found in a sophisticated audience. Before you ROTFLOL over the mass audience of finely discriminating Hoosier listeners, consider that modern music buyers are essentially a new breed. We are all exposed to a greater range of music by the time we're 12 than anyone in history, prior to radio and recording. The internet is blowing that fun fact into an alternate universe. To promote indie artists, that is "Indy Artists", we could do much worse than to clone "the basement.com".
That's enough for one now, more later.
