I am interested in possibly trying to get a venue for a JPF showcase on the west side of Los Angeles...anyone interested in doing that?
Two years ago, I performed in the monthly JPF showcase at Hallenbeck's in North Hollywood...but that was discontinued, infortunately... As it stands now, there is no monthly JPF showcase for the Los Angeles Chapter...
I just joined Songalive.org so I can perform in their songwriters' showcases...I would love to do that with JPF as well!
Anyone got an idea for a venue? Boulevard Music? The Talking Stick? ( my favorite! ) Anastasia's Asylum? Unurban Cafe? or?
Let me know what you think...thanks...
Emily

Hey Emily!! Emily... you starting a revolution?? ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/wink.gif) Sounds like a right fine idea to me! I'da suggested all of those places you mentioned. I think that The Talking Stick would be easiest to convince of the 4. How many of us are there on the Westside? I can only think of about 5-6 off the top of my head... but I can think of a couple of folks who'd come down if they thought they were on the bill... The West Side is an awful lot closer to me than Orange County. I'd do my best to attend if something were held on the West Side.

Janes and Chuck...thanks for responding...
FYI - I just joined Songsalive.org...They have monthly songwriters' showcases - at the Talking Stick in Santa Moncia and HAllenbeck's in North hollywood - both are wonderful venues, IMO.
I sure wish JPF had monthly songwriters' showcases...But they were discontinued - I think - because of poor attendance.

Emily, You are correct. The showcases used to be at Hallenbeck's but nobody would show up apparently. This was part of Penni & John's aggravation when Penni was the L.A. coordinator I believe. This makes The Talking Stick an even more likely candidate for what we are talking about because it is a very small venue. Prolly better to pack a small place than disappoint a big one IMHO. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/smile.gif) Songsalive is an interesting orginization. I've heard both good and bad feedback. I've met Gilli a few times and she seems nice enough to me. The one Songsalive showcase I attended went pretty well and was a lot of fun. I can tell you from firsthand experience that they have trouble removing people though. I've been trying to redirect their email updates from one of my email accounts to another for more than a year now. I've gotten confirmations and yet I still continue to get their updates in the wrong place... Ah, well. Not a big gripe, ne? Emily, I think it's a great idea to find a place for a West side showcase. Another JPF member and I have been looking for someplace in the South Bay, but haven't had much luck so far. FYI, there are some good things happening in the South Bay that might help fill the gap for all you westsiders (it's not THAT far!!): www.SouthBayMusicScene.com has expanded to two songwriters showcases a month (the 2nd and 4th Sundays) and the inaugural South Bay Songwriters Circle ( http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/Forum12/HTML/000402.html) is this Sunday at the Red Car starting at 3PM. If all goes well, that will become a regularly scheduled event. ------------------ Robert Thomas Kuhlmann www.rtkmusic.com

Hi Emily! That would be an awesome idea & I'll totally support whatever you think you can do in your area. In the past, I believe it was Scott Turchin, a JPF member, who said he did host a showcase at the Talking Stick. If you want, you can go to his site & possibly contact him: www.songmon.com Keep me in the loop & all the best with this great idea ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/smile.gif) Faith / JPFolks LA

Hi, Faith! Small world...I actually met Scott Turchin....when he did the Westside Songewriters' Circle Showcase at the Talking Stick in Santa Monica....But, as far as I know, that one was not with JPF and was by invitation only. I stopped by to attend it and gave Scott a demo CD...and then found out that he was discontinuing the showcase so he could focus on recording his new CD... I recently joined Songsalive and sang in their songwriter's showcase at the Talking Stick on on June 30th. I wish I could have done the same thing through JPF..We will see...maybe we can make that happen!!!! ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/biggrin.gif) Emily [This message has been edited by Emily Sanders (edited 07-08-2005).]
