Has anyone dealt with Pump Audio? The website looks as though they are on the level. Also, the non exclusive agreement looks appealing. I am new to the songwriting world and from what I've been reading here and at other sites.....man, you gotta be really awesome to get a cut! At least I can generate a little income from them (50% of what the client pays if they like my work). Any suggestions or comments are welcome.
At least one person in this forum says she's made some money from Pump Audio. I've sent them some of my material, but haven't gotten any income from it yet.
They seem to be on the level, and their agreement (in my non-lawyer's opinion) is fair.
I think the "issue" here is that your music pretty much goes in with everybody else's, so it's sort of a crapshoot as to whether it gets heard or selected. (The director, for example, might go ga-ga over the 16th song he hears and stop there, while your song happened to be number 18 on that particular list...)
Anyway, like I said, I've sent them a bunch of songs, so that sort of tells you my opinion. Even if it's a bit of a crapshoot, you WON'T get selected if you're not in the pool. And the agreement leaves you free to continue to market your music elsewhere.
I've recently submitted about 100 of my compositions to PUMP on the advice of a musical artist I recorded, who gets a few hundred dollars a year from them. They have accepted them, and called me asking for more. They will be put on the PUMP box (their digital hard drive) to send to their clients in April. I'll let you know how they fare.
Oh, and they are definitely legit. I know a lot of folks in the video and TV industry who know of and/or use PUMP music in their projects.
It is like someone said, though. There is a LOT of music in there, and no guarantee yours will be near the front of the list. But it's better than not being out there at all.
Even as large as they are, they still have some holes in their catalog. If you do any music that is not so common (comedy, period music <think History channel>, classical, any foreign language stuff) you have a lot better chance.
I think that I posted something about this awhile back, in another Pump thread...
anyway, I have submitted music to Pump, it took a few months, but they finally contacted me to say that the music had been accepted into the catalog, They do not accept everything that they receive, so I was glad to get the heads up on that one. I will be submitting more music to them later this year. L.
My friend Brady Harris (www.bradyharris.com) had one of his tunes placed in an add for the largest bank in Portugal so he's pretty happy. I believe they've also placed a few snippets of his music in commercials or television shows in the past, but this is the biggest placement yet. I've just recently used pump audio's "fast track" submission option and was accepted after uploading a couple of songs via their website. I will let you know what comes of it.
