Hi Folks,
I had to share this video with you. It's a guy playing the Uke.. he's doing While My Guitar Gently Weeps.. and you have the watch the entire thing to get the full impact of the performance... it's pretty cool.

Jake is several kinds of awesomeness.

That particular vid was snurched from Jason Tagg's Midnight Ukulele Disco site.

http://www.ukuleledisco.com

You'll find all sorts of uke vid there, ranging from Jake down to the "I want the last few minutes of my life back" level.

I highly recommend Davis Sweet doing "Moonglow", Patsy Monteleone doing "New Orleans" (note, not "City of New Orleans"), Patsy again on "Biloxi" and anything by Les Chauds Lapins.

Argh! I just went to see if I could get the name of the Les Chauds Lapins tune and the site is down for a redesign!

Go when it opens back up I guess.

Have to email Jason... I just did an entire new look for my site the other day and it wasn't down for a second. (mutter, grumble)

Edit: Forgot to mention that I'll be seeing Jake live on April 7 here in Seattle's Benaroya Hall. A Valentine's Day gift from my sweetie. :-)

well !

For once I'm ahead of the curve

I'v eknow about this guy for a while and actually talked to him a couple of times.

He was a guest on the same show that I do occasionally on wgn in chicago.

He's a really nice, unassuming young man..

nice to see a good kid catch a break

And who made that uke?
It has some lovely tone.
Have to show our local record shop owner.
He is a classical guitarist who also does some pretty nice and unexpected atuff on other instruments.
I'd like to hear this bloke on Balalaika actually.

It's funny.. I was actually curious what Bob would think of that video from a guitarist viewpoint.

Cool to learn that so many people have heard him before. I just found him randomly today while looking at something else.

That's got to be a high end Uke, because it has an amazing sound. What's funny to me is two of my band members have started bringing Ukes on tour to play in the bus and have fun with. I'm tempted to get one myself.

Another amazing Uke performance is Paul McCartney doing "Something in the way" in his Paul McCartney in the USA tour DVD. That's a video any performer should watch to see how to carry a show.

Golly Brian,

Thanks a lot,,,I think....

A quick personal update...

I had a 'total knee replacement surgery' on Feb. 16th, (& the surgery & rehab have both been going GREAT!!!)...But it's left me with a lot of time to kinda surf the web(I thought that I could catch up & read a dozen novels that I've neglected, but my attention span is at about 12 minutes)...And so, I've been buying newspapers & magazines at an obscene rate & Googling everything that comes to mind...

Back to the present....This morning, Brian Posted Jake's link....which if on a Website called 'videosift'...And so, now,,,Not only have I spent the day e-mailing my musical mates the link, but dammit!!!I've also become addicted to 'videosift'...And BTW...Jake's performance is #1 as the 'videosift's favorite video...And it's #1 by a nearly 2 to 1 margin....

Really Gang...Maybe you can blame my opinion on my meds...

But Mr. B.A.W. started this,,,,And all I can say is that I'm glad that I have another month to rehab & downgrade to Tylonal before I have to go back to work...

And until then....I'm gonna feed my Jake Jones as often as I can!!!

Midnight,

I have to confess I was talking about the other Bob in this case, but I am also always interested to hear from you! = ) The reason why I wondered about Bob Young was that he had just made some comments about great guitarists on the other recent post we miraculously agreed on.

That was just incredible! What I wouldn't give just to be able to strum as fast as that.

My opinion as a guitarist is that this kid has done what great musicians do..

he's using every aspect of the instrument..it's a drum..it's a human voice..it's all that stuff...he's just got the whole thing vibrating with his total involvement..

it's a blast watching this kid

reminds me of a great gypsy/flamenco guitar player..

whew !

Awesome! If you saw the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame ceremony where Prince lit it up on the same song, I only wish they could have played together!

Jody (or anyone really) -- if you decide to get a uke email me first and I'll help steer you to a nice one. Lotsa crap ukes out there, trust me.

Love it, Reminds me of Kaki King the guitarist. Not the style but the new crop of great young players, doing unique things..
The tone and vibrance of that Uke is awesome. I have a couple of Barritone Ukes, My bushman Jenny all mahogany has a pickup, but the sound is much sweeter without the amp.
I have thought about having one (bari) made, but just never get around to it.
I also have a wonderfully sweet little soprano uke (all mahogany) that my husband made for me a few years ago. I write a lot of songs with ukes.
Love-em.

The Video: Love the classical stylings on a comtemporary song as well...
Will go back and listen to that one again. Very inspiring.
Peace, L.
