Sir Paul McCartney is the latest famous person that these animal rights groups are using to fatten their coffers. There has been a legal seal hunt off the east coast of Canada for hundreds of years, which fishermen depend on to suppliment their meager incomes.Every year these animal groups (there are a number of them out there) will use well know actors or music stars to draw attention to the cute cuddly whitecoats(which are not the ones hunted)to suck millions of dollars out of bleeding heart animal lovers. This will enable these animal groups to live high on the hog for the rest of the year.It is not an endangered species, the herd is over six million strong and growing, only 5% is harvested each year.

Sir Paul is suppose to be on Larry King live tonight.

I've been watching this with great interest. My daughter has recently purchased a pomeranian puppy, which is a small breed of dog with a particularly pretty coat of fur. I've been hoping these bleeding hearts at PETA finally get smacked down so I can raise dogs for the fur they bear.

Please keep us posted.

Nah, not a carpet, I keep looking at the little thing, which my daughter refuses to housebreak, and thinking, "Hmmm...slippers!"

Peta does go a little far sometimes, but I do strongly support the naked models posing to protest fur. Of course I support naked ladies doing anything.

It would take at least two (one for each foot)or one would make a really nice set of ear muffs or a collar on a bomber jacket.

I alway thought PETA stood for "People Eating Taisty Animals". My bad.

I am not into corporate news unless of course it's about fashion or what Carl lagerfeld is reading these days.. so this is the first I have heard of it. I am not a Peta fan....but do see that there should be a balance in nature.
Do I need a seal skin coat,...... not really.
We tend to be more concerned with what we want, rather than what we actually need.
It doesn't really matter if it's Paul, Peta, or seal killers.
I would be more interested in harvesting the media quacks that tend to over expose, over spin, and over play these kinds of things.
Or maybe the mindless fools who watch or read about it and tihink it worthy fodder.
Paul McCartney isn't a newcomer to these kinds of causes, he has spent much of his adult life with a passion and a sense of what he feels is right.
I remember reading years ago about a pretty bird native to the US that was hunted to instinction. The birds would become disoriented when rustled from the ir nesting spots in tees, and men with guns would shoot them, for one reason only, because it was possible.
Just because it is possible to kill a bunch of seals at a single wack, hardly makes it a worthy or noble effort.
Afterall, tobacco farmers are learning to diversify. Maybe seal farmers should be thinking along the same lines. Perhaps become arctic soybean growers. I hear the soy bean business is booming.
I wouldn't touch one with a ten foot pole,......yuck!! God I hate soy.....
But, think about it.
We seem (as a species) to spend way too much time killing, and thinking up great new and innovative ways to kill, and not enough time, figuring out how to do less killing.

Maybe Sir Paul could open an animal shelter on his estate and take in a few thousand stray dogs and cats. And build a large seal pond.

Yeah, instead of capital punishment for the seals, we could give them life imprisonment.

All jokes aside, after watching Sir Paul on Larry King tonight, he makes a very strong case. There is no good reason in the 21st century why a human being would walk out on ice and bash a baby seals head in. Paul gave alternatives, which the premier of New Found land refused to address. In fact, the premier came off, in my opinion, as a yet another misinformed, change the subject, hot winded politician.

Hey~

He's pleasing his wife, which is always smart, and probably selling a few more CD's from the exposure, something we all would like to happen with our CD's, right? And maybe some people will look into that topic and other issues, and maybe even think about how humans are also mistreated and what can be done about it.

Must be nice to be doing all we can and just sit back and put down, while he is going about his life in full fashion, on every aspect he and his wife can think of. Land mines too. Life is life. We all would do OK to pick a battle sometime to express concerns over killing. It's not really something to put down, in my opinion. That shows how we have become so used to killing, that's it's passe to many. Sad.

If cows were "cute" looking, maybe Paul, (or someone) would protest at the slaughter house. Still, we need our Big Macs and leather jackets....

Many fishermen may only make $15,000 to $20,000 a year, the sealing fishery can supply maybe 25% to 30% of that yearly income over a three or four week period. Why should they have to give up that money when there is a legal hunt and there is a good demand for the product. It is fine for millionaires to say they should do something else to earn their living, but when there is little else to do,especially at that time of year for a fisherman, what should they do,starve,go on welfare?Killing will always be ugly, but most of us like to eat meat, and a slaughter house ain't pretty,if these groups get their way and stop the seal hunt, what will be next, the farmers raising chicken, beef cows, lambs, pigs, etc. If they choose not to eat meat, that is their choice, but they have no right to force their choice on others. As for PETA and other groups, they don't REALLY want the seal hunt to stop,it brings in millions every year.I don't think it will be so easy to get stars to hug a pig, not cute enough, and neither will people send money to save a pig.

What about trying to stop the millions of babies that are aborted each year. Now that is a cause I'd support.

Everett

I just love those people that condemn the system but put down the system. Give people a little bit of power and they think the own the world. Wonder how big the body count is so ?Sir? Paul could play his music. Who the hell made him a Sir anyway? I'm going to have to talk to the Queen about that. My Ancestors are probably turning over in their graves. Many who were real Sirs.

If this Seal hunt has been going on for hundreds of years it seems to me that it isn't hurting the ecko system,, however it's spelled, so what's the problem. I did catch a bit of the Larry King show. "Sir" Paul didn't want to address the regular slaughter of beef, pork, or poultry every day. Awe gee, maybe that doesn't fit his halo. Maybe he's a veggie.

Let's boycott Paul. We can start by everybody getting rid of their old Beatles albums, especially old ones in good condition. Send them to me, and I'll dispose of them properly.

Back to the cute animals, I can't wait until we get rid of those sissy humane laws. That way I can augment my meager income as a musician with my new venture.

Dunbar's Pomeranian Sport Ranch.

Relax and recreate here in beautiful Tennessee where you can enjoy the wonderful sport of Pomeranian hunting.

Our guides will drive you through the green hills of the Nashville area. There will be plenty of coolers filled with your favorite bevereges, sandwiches, and room to ice your kill. Soon you will encounter packs of young, well groomed Pomeranian puppies, and here comes the best part. You can choose your kill method. Hammers and air pistols will be provided, but this game is easily dispatched (with a maneuver demonstrated in our video) by hand, leaving the pelt pristine and undamaged.

Upon return to the lodge, there will be more bevereges provided for the skinning party. Our experts will take you through each aspect of skinning: Where to begin the cut. How to gut without tainting the meat. What to do with an unsuccessful kill. How to prepare the hides for slippers, ear muffs or that fashionable full length Pomeranian coat.

Relax for an evening meal, a rustic barbecue of Pomeranian meat, served with your favorite beverege.

Interested in joining us? First, we ask that you contact your Senators and Congressmen, start a letter writing campaign to newspapers, those of you more famous musicians should use your notoriety to do tv interviews (such as Larry King). Let's end these draconian inhumane "humane" laws and give our underpaid musicians a way to augment their incomes.

All the Best,
Mike

We live in a society that has made great inroads with technology...there is no
reason why we need to kill animals to clothe ourselves....yes the coats/pants are pretty but, microfiber is just as nice.

As for eating meat that will take longer...
my dad hunts, I eat cows, my hubby fishes I eat the fish...but I wouldn't want them to kill just so I could wear the skin....

Just my opinion....as everyone has there own.

We here are all relative nobodies who have a very small stage...this forum. And none of us has any compunction whatsoever to use this stage to say whatever we want. This includes ECA333 and everyone who agrees and disagrees.

Then why should a guy like McCartney, who has earned a bigger stage, not use it to say whatever he wants? Does fame and celebrity require silence? Who among us is harmed by what the guy says on Larry King? Should the King of Newfoundland (or whatever) have kept his mouth shut, too? Or should only some people get to use the stage?

Yeah...Paul McCartney needs Larry King and baby seals so he can sell a few records and pay the back rent. Sure. He has been consistent in his stance on animal rights for decades. Why would anyone doubt his sincerity on this.

Mike,

I don't have any old Beatles albums, so I'll send you an old Monkee's album instead.
Also an Archies 45, and a cardboard record from the Sugar Bears off of the back of a box of Super Sugar Crisp. Circa 1970.
These were the true kings of rock and roll!
(They all skip, so you can forget about e-bay.)

Did ya hear about the baby seal that walked into a bar and told the bartender, "I'll have anything ya got...as long as it's not a Canadian Club."

It seems like if humans feel like they really need to continue to kill animals for fur, etc. that it could be done in a more humane way than what this video indicates.

WARNING: Video gets pretty graphic about halfway through.

I've seen that video before on public access.
It actually made me sick for a day or two.
I couldn't believe they didn't have the common decency and respect for the animal to put it out of it's misery instantly before skinning it.
Not to mention the cruel living conditions.
Sad that a culture and society has no respect for things that give them life.
They will see there evil ways someday..
Once China has reaped all of it's riches.
or Raped our middle class to the end, there childrens children will not want to do these things.

Remember this when those Chinese cars come to our shores later this year.. Remember what kind of culture you are supporting.

It's not just in China....cruel industry and people are everywhere....its global....

People that believe there is a way to live in harmony with everyone and every living thing need to stand up for there beliefs.

Usually the good actions outway the bad actions...but it takes time for people to understand there is a way to make a living
with out killing something....and you can look fashionable without killing something.

But then again there will be people that argue me eating lettuce is killing a living thing....so in the end I can only follow what I believe....

I wear a suit made out of Newspapers-you should see where I place the "Want Ads". (although my friends say it should be the "Funnies") Around back I use a paper that's 7 days old-I have a week behind....

What they don't tell you is that most of those videos are 15 or 20 years old.The laws have been changed so most of the seals are now killed with high powered rifles. As for skinning seals alive, that never happened,if I remember correctly, this was stagged by the animal groups to make it look like sealers were doing it,this kind of thing really brings in the money for these groups.

There is a law in place that says no one is permitted within (I believe)half a mile of a wildlife birthing area until the animals are
weaned from their mothers(for fear that the mothers will reject their young when they smell human scent off their young)but Sir Paul didn't mind breaking this law. That seal they were hugging may starve to death when and if it's mother rejects it.

The problem with stars like Sir Paul having his say is that many will believe him because of who he is,even if what he is saying are lies or half truths, fed to him by animal groups that are only interested in protecting their own jobs. Also these lies hurt people who don't have a stage or forum to refute those lies, they also suffer loss of legal income which they have earned for hundreds of years.

If someone wants to eat only vegetables and no meat products, milk, eggs, etc.that is their right, but if they want to push their rights to take away rights of others to eat these other foods, then it is wrong.(people do eat seal meat and use their oil for medicine).Animals were put here by God for man's use.If we all give up eating meats, eggs, milk, etc.who do you think will suffer then, millions of people make their living providing these items for our consumption. You will do away with cattle ranchers, including sheep, pigs, hens, ducks, geese:Also fishermen and all they provide. plus all the people involved in getting those products to market, including slaughter houses, packing plants, trucking companies, meat cutters, etc.

Yes,you have to have rules in place to prevent cruelty, those rules are in place, are they ever broken,no doubt they are by a few, but so are all rules in society broken by a few,you deal with the rule breaker, not everyone involved with the activity.Drunken drivers should lose their license to drive, but not the ones that drive sober.

When stars jump into those photo opps,if they are honest, they will listen to both sides of the arguement and have all their facts in place before smearing a people or a country with a one sided view of the topic.

I think they still have fox hunts in England, just for sport, maybe he should take up that cause.

Everett

Everett,
I'm not sure which video[s] you're talking about, but if you watch this particular video , you will see that the animals being skinned are clearly alive through the end of the skinning process. Even if these videos are 15 or 20 years old, the fact is - it has been happening and seems to be continuing to happen.

Can the animals ask for it to stop? No.
I am thankful Paul is helping bring the public's attention to this brutality.

There is no reason for it to be happening that way in this day and age. If we're going to continue to skin them, at least kill them first. Why is that such a hard concept to grasp?

The above quotes are examples of things that you have heard or read and chose to believe. That is your priviledge and your right. But you do not know them to be fact, even though you believe them to be true. I'm sure the things most activists say are things they believe to be fact. But, probably, they are just things they have heard or read and chose to believe.

To me, the danger is not that misinformation might mislead a few impressionalble souls, but that forcing ANYONE to "just shut up" is contrary to what most of us stand for.

With respect to you, I assert that you have no idea how McCartney may have studied the issue before he took a public stance. This is an assumption on your part and I believe it is motivated by your own feelings about the subject. He might know more FACTS than you do.

Anyway...I'm not trying to shut YOU up. I think dialog is important and I think we should hear from everyone. If we are gonna start shutting up celebritites, there are dozens I would put on the list ahead of an old bass player.

If you read Everett's post the "skinning alive" bits were staged by the activist groups. I remember that fact coming out during the first round of internet brouhaha about this video.

The activist groups have a vested interest in seeing those dollars rolling in. How else are they going to pay their salaries, keep their fleet of boats and other vehicles running, film in their cameras and their fifteen minutes of fame alive?

Is that such a hard concept to grasp?

I don't (and never will) own a seal fur jacket or anything of its ilk, but the swallowing whole of the propaganda machine output disgruntles me, no matter who's machine it is.

Everett -- actually, no more fox hunting in England as of just last year IIRC.

CHINA is soon to be if not already the Largest Economic center in the UNIVERSE
So whatever they do is on the largest scale.
That should be the main target.
Did you know they have in one town alone that has 3 shoe factories that employee 250,000 people that make shoes.

Of course with our own government and corporations help they have practically anniliated our middle class with offshoring and Unfair trade. It all started in 1993 with a little thing called NAFTA which has grown into GAT and WTO and others.

Plus actually CHINA is our biggest threat globally. They have been caught just last year mapping our east coast with submarines again.

Also Taiwan who wants independence from CHINA is not getting any help from us becasue CHINA has threatened to NUKE us if we interefere.

It's crazy.. we gave them foolishly all the economic power and they have converted it into a military power. Rememeber Al Gores campaign money traded for Lockheed Long range missle secrets..

We are becoming like a third world country in some ways. We export raw materials only to come back as products. We send Cotton, Steel and it comes back clothes and soon to be cars.

I could go on and on about CHINA.
THe only way to defeat them is to actually export liberalism..
What I mean is that when CHINESE people start having human rights, then Come laws, then come courts.
Eventually those billion people will want that american dream. House and two cars etc.

So All I'm asking PEOPLE is when at all necessary. Don't buy all that made in CHINA crap at Wal-Mart and Especially that CHINESE cars thats coming in the fall.

The Difference is when you buy a Japanese car or a south Korean car chances are that is actually made here in the USA by American Workers. Probably more than GM cars.

Also note that not only is China strength hurting our local economies it is also hurting our european allies..
Europe is in the same mess..
Eventually the Chinese are going to do a Oil Grab with IRAN which isn't good either..

Eventually I believe the GOAL of the Communists are to devalue the dollar to the point that its worthless and Oil will be bought with GOLD or EUROS....

If that Happens folks were all in deep doo doo....

It will be like 1933 all over again...

re:
There is a Wal-Mart documentary floating around PBS......
Watch it and you will never shop at Wal-Mart again.
We do not shop at wal-mart, nor do we buy cheap mass marketed goods.
Like a pack of kitchen knives for five bucks, or those cheap clothes at discount stores...

Change is a funny thing, most folks want it, if it is going to imporve their lives, but they rarely do anything to bring it to fruition.
I believe that it was Gandhi who said that a society should be judged according to how they treat the least in that society.
Or that you can judge the merits of a society by how they treat the least.
In my opinion, the least are those who are not able to defend or stand up for themselves. Chuldren, the elderly, animals, etc....
If as a society we prey on, and or exploit our least able members instead of embrace, protect and nurture them,
then what are we.
What good are we.

A lot of things need changing, but first we need to take them seriously.
we need to be a bit more concerned over our words, and not just toss them around like garbage.
Personally I doubt that when any of us gets to the end of our lives we want to be remembered as someone who like to make jokes about killing seals, dogs or, anything for that matter.
I bet we will want to be remembered for the fact that we loved our families, were good to children and treated puppy dogs and old folks with kindness.
Of course I could be wrong, but I have seen a few people in their last days, and none of them were making flip jokes about killing baby seals.

I agree and
and I've seen the documentary..

I guess I just want to take this forum to (RANT)educate some folks who have not worked in the manufacturing field what is happening..

to note I work in the electronics field well what's left of it in the US.

Basically K-mart, Target and other big chains are doing exactly the same thing as Wal-mart..well close.

I've told the story before here about my plight to buy an American made TV. THe last plant to do that locally closed it's doors last year. It was actually Toshiba's being made down the road from me.

Our middle class is DYING FOLKS..
and The GAP between us is widening..
here's why..
An American Manufacturing worker cannot compete because:

The American Company has to pay him at least a minimum wage

China has to pay 37 CENTS a HOUR AVERAGE

The American Company has to Insure there worker normally with medical benefits which average about 11,000 a year now.

Chinese Company- none

The American Company has to pay Taxes and other things such as disability and life insurance.

Chinese Company- none

The american company has to buy expensive software licenses for computer programs.

The chinese Government advocates Pirating software for the good of the State. Intellectual property is stolen in the Trillions over there.
I'm sure American Companies have helped them do it too...

The American Company has to abide by Building Codes, Fire Codes, Safety Codes, Enviromental Laws such as Waste disposal and Emmisions.

The Chinese company Just builds a building how it wants and Dumps and burns whatever it likes.

You get the point..

This has caused the middle class worker to slide off the map. Decent manufacturing jobs which gave people hopes with pensions. Kept families together and provided a respect for workers.. Plus a strong base for an economy.

Flipping burgers just don't compare..
Of course this has caused a myriad of other societal woes..

It's almost which came first the chicken or the egg scenerio. It all boils down to greed beyond imagination..

Are scenerio is the evil Government politician or the Evil Corporations that started this whole mess and is chipping away at the fabric of our society.
Most likely evil Corporation paid evil government to change the free trade laws.
SO companies could offshore and drive up stock by laying off millions of US workers and moving the supply chain to CHINA

THus causing less people that will lay out the cash for your CD.

I don't know if it too late becasue you can't even buy anything that doesn't say MADE IN CHINA but you can try not too..

I do feel sorry for the Chinese people becasue they are under attack from their own people. Their farmers are being run off their land which they have no rights too by way of Communism.
They are being forced to go into factories.
Our farmers in the 1950's had a choice..
They went into factories becasue they thought it was going to be a easier life.
In many ways it was..
But now that some of us might want to go back to a Somewhat Aggricultural life it is nearly impossible.
I'ts ironic how you have to be a millionare to be a farmer now.
So you can't go back..

So now as America transforms int a different type of society, mostly a service industry where all we do is buy and sell things already made and ship them around by FED EX or UPS. We must find a way to fit into this new society just like in the age of the industrial revoloution.

Only we have the internet...

So PLEASE again don't BUY a CHINESE CAR...

What's this have to do with music...
or sir Paul
nothing..
I'm just ranting...

I believe this is how the whole thread started in the first place (not you David). "Sir Paul" has the right to stick his nose where ever he wants to. Just like you or I have the right to do, Right? Well, at least until our Government say we can't. But then, they would never do that, right? [Linked Image]

Hello,
I read a lot of BBC News for international news. One of Englands factories closed down for the jobs to be moved to mainland China. The new Chinese factory workers were being paid around $90 measely dollars a month.

So the Chinese workers sure won't be getting rich quick.

It is an international problem. And it is going to get a lot worse.. possibly World War III before it can start to get better.

We were brainwashed into "Embracing Change". But the negative consequences of globalization.. and the state of transition it is bringing to the people of the world will more than likely only lead to deepening heartache.

All I can say is "an ill wind is starting to blow" and it is just a classic case of history repeating itself.

Who was it that said, "people who fail to understand history are doomed to repeat it".

Anyway I digress, I believe in free speech. Look at how many people were put to death over the writings of Karl Marx? Or the reformation and changes brought about by Martin Luther? No not the one from Atlanta..

Now think about the internet with all these people being heard 'round the world with minimal sense of control.

Sorry I didn't explain myself fully.Skinning a live seal DID happen, but it was done by people paid to do so by the animal groups,it didn't happen by sealers working on a per seal pelt basis. It would not make sense to try and skin a seal that was fighting for its life,it would take longer to do and you risk ruining the pelt.It was setup for a photo opp.I'd like to have half the extra money that farce brought in.Also, when animals are dead they will twich sometimes, just muscle reflexing. If anyone ever cut off a chickens head, you know it will run around for several minutes, but it is dead.

I'd say Paul did research and study the hunt, but I'd also guess most of his material was supplied by the animal groups he is working for.Why don't they target the seal hunts over in Russia and other parts of the world.Maybe they are afraid to tackle those big countries,Newfoundland is too easy a target, only 500,000 people so we are not a threat to them, and it still gets the job done and the money rolling in.

Everett

60 or so years ago you could trap and sell racoon pelts. No more. There is no more market to speak of. It could also happen to this seal hunt. Who knows.

World trade is a fact of life. It has been for many centuries. I have read that the Phoenicians traveled to England around 3 or 300 A.D for Tin.

The reason Columbus discovered America was because he was trying to discover a shorter route to wherever it was for the spice trade or whatever the reason.

True, things change. But things always balance up in time. I don't worry too much about World Trade. When someone sends us product and we send them dollars, guess where they have to ultimately spend those dollars? You guessed it, right here.

"Plebe" Paul can speak all he wants to. It is like trying to move that 500 pound gorilla. Or like one of those Aesop fables about the mice putting a bell on the cat. They all knew it need to be done but who was going to do it? It will all balance out in time.

I actually am not really fired up about it..
I know it sounds like it but I am just trying to spark some awaremness.

Just like Sir Paul...

One POSITIVE is the US has got half the pollution it once did and wildlife is thriving here in the Northeast.
Species of Black Bear, Deer, Wild Turkey, Grouse, Fox, Coyotes, Even Mountain Lions and Elk are coming back..

Why? becasue half the Factory Pollution has moved to CHINA and Elsewhere..
PLUS the hunting base is too old plus the migration of people going south to look for jobs.. The population has actually gone down in the the northeast in alot of communities.

sadly the Chinese people will eventually learn all the horrors of pollution that we all have learned here..

Ok enough about CHINA..

You can research it yourself..
I GUARANTEE that you will hear about it more and more in the News in the coming years..

Sir Paul has a right to put his money wherever he wants or Advocate for anything he believes in.

Just like YOU can stick your nose wherever you want but at your own risk...

In yet another direction: Last week Charlie Rose spent his whole show in India talking to Indian business and political folks, It was very interesting, and the Inda vs. China topic was widely discussed.
They too are feeling the crunch, even though they don't like to admit it on national t.v.

It was timed to the presidents visit.
And a lot of things were discussed.

Charlie Rose, always a good read.....
