My daughter's son was good enough to wait till today to be born! 5:36 PM.
Two weeks ago, I thought it could be on our first Wed, night gig,,,,the first in 30 years! And then again, last night, our second show. But he waited like a good boy who knows his Pop Pop needed to play! The minute after our last song, Tracy called to say she is going to the hospital because of what she was feeling,,,,,pain. It was a very long labor, then she was induced, but still not dilating enough. AND the baby had the chord around his neck as the scan found that condition, so they did a C section. They said the baby's heart rate went very low at each contraction, and that procedure was needed.
Now, baby and mom are fine! A beautiful boy, Jack, (after my late father), and with very long fingers, so we think we might have another piano player,,,,or really, whatever he wants to be.
But I thought it was considerate of baby Jack to wait until after the gig.
John

Thanks Brian, Sub, Everett and Steve!
Yes,,,a good year. Yes, guitar too! Chuck Berry had limbs for fingers!
Very Meaningful, especially with my only girl's first baby! My baby had a baby! Precious! Could play for McCartney at the Garden and it wouldn't come close this feeling and meaning. Would playing there be great? YES! Of course,,,,but that's how great my family is to me, and how great they really are. LOVE is never more so than in my family, or in my heart for them.
To see my daughter, who I saw being born almost 30 years ago, holding her baby in the recovery room after her c-section was something so powerful, I just froze at that door entrace and stared! )Was not suppoed to be in the recovery room, so I hung by the door they brought the baby to her, and just didn't let the door close for a few seconds. Still getting choked up just remembering that very special moment. The world was perfect right then!
Thanks again guys, John

John! What a great ending to the story you started back when you were concerned about the gig. That is so cool!
Well, of course this is a beginning, not an ending, but it is just so great to hear what happened, after reading your posts about the gig and impending birth.
I can only imagine the beauty of that moment where you saw your daughter and grandson. Got me choked up.
I hope one (actually I hope all 3) of my children have children, and that I get time to know them and enjoy them. I'm looking forward to that, wishfully.
Thank you for sharing your joy, and that beautiful moment with us!
Funny about the new baby's fingers. My mom checked every new grandchild for "piano fingers." Haha! Sounded important to me, too, as a piano player. I guess they come in handy for other activities, too. Haha! But I've always been grateful for my longish fingers that can reach those octave-plus chords and such.
CONGRATULATIONS on becoming a grandfather! It's obvious you'll be a great "Pop Pop" to this little boy. Glad to hear mom and baby doing fine, also.
Yay!! Thanks for sharing your good news!! --Jean

Thanks Vikki, Jean, Scott, Herbie, Liz, Joanne, Kaley, and Deb!
Like the two smiles Vikki! Thanks!
Yes Jean, I hope you also feel this great joy! It's what life is all about! Thanks for thinking I will be a great Pop Pop! My other grandchildren from my son are tricked into thinking so already! Chocolate! Have some in the coat pocket ready to hand out when they run up to ya, (in the future for you). Can't go wrong with good chocolate!
Yeah Scott, some good things going on. Some other ones not so hot at the same time,,,,,but they are there to deal with. These good things override them for sure. Thanks!
Herbie, your grandpa must have been a great man! Thanks for the welcome to my grandson! Very cool way you did it!
Lizzorn, I like our feelings! Keep em good and coming! Thanks too!
Yeah Joanne, Tracy listened to her dad for a change, (ha!), and waited till the day after that gig. Always is a good daughter, actually! My biggest fan, and has been weird not to have her hear me play out yet. The last times she was gooing through the beginnings of being pregnant and was sick the two nights around here. Then I went chasing Brian up through the Northest US!
Kaley,,,,ahhh thanks for sying that about his name, Jack! Mainly because there has been someone who I talked with on the phone that is having a HUGE problem with his being officially named Jack, and "not a proper name". To me, the parents get that priviledge and if the first time for "Jack", has now just become a proper name! Let his nick-name be John!
THAT IS COOL DEB! THANK YOU!!!!!! Means a lot!
All of your thoughtful replies means a lot to me! And I'm not surprised at how sincere and caring they are.
Thank you! Jack's new Pop Pop! (whether he likes it or not)!
