That's right, I didn't really know where else to post this, cause it's not really a success story. I'm really excited though for my new music video. It's called Falling In and I want you all to see it and comment on it here. The link: http://jodywhitesides.com on the left side you'll see Motion Pictures and the link for Falling In. (It Requires Quicktime 7 to see the video, there is a link for that on my site if you do not have it. It is free). If you're on dial-up it will take a while to load as it's fairly big, but its very much worth it. Thanks for checking it out. Look foward to comments. Jody p.s. - Taylor guitars will be posting it on their site, so in that respect its sort of a success story. I'll be sending it off to the Fuse and other video outlets this week. ------------------ Music That Makes Your Soul Happy! www.jodywhitesides.com [This message has been edited by Whitesides (edited 02-04-2006).]

Great Job Jody. It's got a fresh look, doesn't look like every other generic video out there and as an indie video could easily be played alongside any MTV artist video.
Congrats!

Thanks everyone who's taken a moment to see it so far. I'm glad you all like it and think it's worthy of quality that stands up to the Majors. Truman, you might need to update or install to Quicktime 7. It's free, and is required. Most people already have Quicktime, yours might be an older version. Hi Jody, So sorry I couldn't get the video to go.. Really enjoyed the song though.. It totally has the singer songwriter vibe of today happening with it. Also simple and easy to absorb with that cool progression.. I know this isn't a feedback forum for the song but I love your voice, and I would have loved to hear more add libs.. even subtle ones. It would have put this excellent production over the top commercially. I could hear them as the song played Best of luck Peace Sub [This message has been edited by substudio (edited 02-04-2006).]

Thanks everyone. I'm happy you love the song. However, I gotta figure out how to let people know that they really do need Quicktime 7 in order to see the video. Any thoughts? Thanks, Jody ------------------ Music That Makes Your Soul Happy! www.jodywhitesides.com

David, thanks for noticing. Actually the only real reason it was possible to record it and have it sound that good was because of Taylor's ES system. Otherwise it would be damn near impossible to play slap and pop on acoustic guitar and have it sound good. Jody p.s. - just a tidbit of information about that slap and pop thing. It was actually a fun challange that came about from Brian A. W. Who one night felt I wouldn't be able to play something like another JPF member (Seth Horan) is known for, but then he's a superb bassist who does tons of cool slap and pop licks. Thanks for the challange Brian, I think it turned out great. :-) ------------------ Music That Makes Your Soul Happy! www.jodywhitesides.com

Reminds me a bit of the "Take on Me" video by A-HA a long, long time ago. Since nobody has so far, let me give kudos to the artist who did all the drawings that make the video so interesting. It really grabs your attention waiting to see what he/she is going to draw next. AS for the song itself, Very cool, catchy, and relaxing tune, Jody. Props, dawg!

Hi Neiliebank, I've had a couple of people say that. Funny thing is, that wasn't the inspiration. The artist in question is actually my dad, Kim Whitesides. He was actually a famous artist through the 70's and 80's for commercial illustration. In fact, I know of at least one item that he did the art and design for that probably just about everyone knows... Underalls Pantyhose - the packaging with the ladies butt and legs. Too bad he didn't get royalties on that. Glad you dig the song and the video! Jody ------------------ Music That Makes Your Soul Happy! www.jodywhitesides.com

Jody,
Okay.. so if you have a son what are you going to name him? Chris? (i.e. to continue the gender ambigious male names?) hahaha.. it must be a tradition..
The drawigns are great. I watched the video again last night and liked it even better the second time. And did you know the song that won for best Experimental track last year had a little audio clip in it that referred to those Underall commercials.. the woman in the clip called them the "Panty girls" and the song title was Panties. (Yes, it was an odd track where someone found a cassette tape in a garage sale that he bought and on it there was an anonymous family who had been sending audio letters to each other and he took all the verbal discussion and sampled it and used it in and out of his very unusual recording project for great comic effect).
Small world!
Brian

Jody - darn it - can't you convert this to Quicktime 5.0(which runs on WIN '98 and ME) so that people have a choice? Or RealAudio equivalant or something. Not everybody has XP yet (which Quicktime 7.0 can only be installed on), even though Microsoft is abandening 98 and ME this summer ...I have your new CD and I wanted to see the video on it but same issue....
I spent HOURS last weekend trying to convert from ME to XP just because of software issues like this. But because of various things like the conversion never did work all that well, in fact not at all really, and I'd have to upgrade a bunch more of my software that runs fine on ME to XP, the graphics hardware on this computer, etc. I decided I'm sticking to what I have until I can't take it anymore and then I will just buy a new computer (even though there is nothing wrong with this one...) as I am forced to that basically. Plus Vista is coming out in '06 anyway, so I'll just wait for that....Lots of other people might be in the same boat...

Hey Liszt, I feel your pain. However, I'm a bit of a quality nut and unfortunately to get the video to a viewable size with decent quality and small enough file size, the codec I needed for the encoding only works in Quicktime 7. As for RealAudio, I know I've posted my thoughts on that format in other threads. Thank you for buying the CD - you have something to look forward to when you do get to XP. Another reason is that a little bird has informed me that I'll be getting my video on iTunes hopefully soon and the codec they use is the same - thus why I chose it - so I could figure out the best encoding to have it ready for them. Brian, for a second I didn't know what you meant if I'd name a song Chris, but then I realized you meant a son. Actually I haven't given a name much thought. Even more funny, my sister's name is Jessie. That's funny information about the Panty Hose, I'll have to tell my dad. ------------------ Music That Makes Your Soul Happy! www.jodywhitesides.com [This message has been edited by Whitesides (edited 02-04-2006).]

Hi Jody,
Man, I don't know about this. First, since this is typing and not a real conversation, I want to be clear this is not a major issue, but it is something to think about.
I understand the commitment to quality, and I hope you sell lots of your video on ITUNES (which BTW I would pay .99 cents for if it was in a format *I* wanted to use - just so I could see it).
Are you saying you can't convert your video to another format that more of us without XP could view,(a format that will run on like say Windows Media Player or Quicktime 5 or RealVideo, or something...), or are you saying you don't WANT to convert it to another format because of your idea of quality? You could have the high quality video and the other for us dullards...like every other major communication outlet on the internet...or perhaps I don't like Quicktime...it looks to me like in QT7 you can easily convert it to another format and place it on your site..
The thing is, why invite the public to come view your video if you don't want to make it as assessable as possible? This thread should read "New music video, you gotta see it, but only if you meet MY requirements to view it". Not as appealing a come on....
I like Realaudio and I am a customer. I like downloading something I can burn as much as I want and it is not tied to a one company's format or machine. I am comfortable with the interface, the music sounds great to me, and I don't care about the sonic nuances that might be there between that format and Apple's format.
I guess what I am saying is, yes, the first reason for art and it's creation is to please the artist, no doubt, but why exclude people (especially if you invite them to come share your art and your joy in it) when you don't have too? Make two feeds...

This isn't about exclusion, and the concept of choice has also been debated here at JPF ad nausium. I don't have a way to encode Real Audio or Windows Media, I stopped using it long before the year 2000. The compression software I do have doesn't even have a setting to go as far back as Quicktime 5, only Quicktime 6. So while I understand that you have an older machine, unfortunately I'm on newer computers because my old one died. The software that I have doesn't allow me to be so backwards compatible. But to appease you, I've done what I could to make it as QT 5 friendly as possible and you won't find the link anywhere but here. Falling In small I make no guaranties that it will work in QT5, why? I don't have a way to even check it. All I can say is, I hope it works and I hope you can enjoy it. Jody ------------------ Music That Makes Your Soul Happy! www.jodywhitesides.com

Jody - thanks - it did work. There was no sound, but depending on what you used to backwards convert, that could easily happen from what I've read. Thanks from what you did.
The video was cool and whoever did the artwork, that was cool. I really do hope you sell a million on ITunes. You are an interesting guy to listen to.
I confess I didn't really pay attention to the threads about choice and I don't remember a thread that included your feelings on RealAudio.
Anyway, I'll quit whining and buy a new computer one of these days (even though there is nothing wrong with this one)....

You're welcome, I'm not sure why the audio wouldn't work as I could hear it here. The art was done by my dad, Kim Whitesides. Check an early post in the thread. Glad you liked it. And may your computer not die on you like mine did - though I had mine running for 24/7 for nearly 4 years. Jody ------------------ Music That Makes Your Soul Happy! www.jodywhitesides.com

Thanks Shandy, haven't seen or heard from you in some time my friend. Well, there is some good news at this point. I've gotten approval for the video to be played on in store displays at places like Blockbuster, Tower, FYE, Hastings, etc... I've told them to hold off on the rotation until I can set up distribution in to retail locations that make sense. What a chore this is turning out to be. There's a whole story going on behind the scenes that will make a weird tale at some point. Also, since this has come up, I'm holding off on sending to the Fuse, and still working the contacts for MTV2 until I know if I can get the distribution. I'll keep you all posted. Orlando, The name of the director is Byron Turk. His production name is No Socks on Sunday Productions. He's based out of Valencia California at the moment. If you want how some of the video was done, like the artwork, read up earlier in the thread - it's my dad. Jody ------------------ Music That Makes Your Soul Happy! www.jodywhitesides.com

I too love the artwork, to see a blank spot become something tangible. As a youngster, the majic drawing board on Captain Kangaroo was my favorite, seeing creation in process... Nice song too! ------------------ Now is the only time you can be sure of...LIVE IT!

Hi Jody The small one worked for me- It was really good and I like the song and your voice is nice and clean--you enunciate the words, sing on key and you don't try to overwhelm, just deliver--I like that type of low key approach--the Dad factor was cool, too. I could really see this helping you jump to the next level!! I hope you do!!! It would be great to watch one of our own climb!! If you ever come to Chicago, I will hook you up with who to talk to and where to play.
