Once again, I have the chorus melody as clear as day (and always have) but I don't remember the verse melody. Just wanted to get input on the lyric at this point. p.s. I actually saw this sign on the freeway, that's what gave me the idea. Thanks guys! CHORUS And the sign said North to nashville south to alabama and I swore up and down til I had to face facts What was I running from or running towards cus my heart when south but the car went north V2 It's not a new story I know that now but if you would've told me it's so funny how sometimes we let fate decide just the way I did that night I saw the sign CHORUS Bridge Just when you think you know what you want One turn of the wheel tells you how you (really?) feel CHORUS tag cus my heart went south yeah my heart went south when my heart went south and car went north

Yup the Nashville angle . Looks good man. Whoops saw Garys edits. I listen tomorrow. I'd probably say Daddy taught me to play this guitar , if you going for chain dreams in Nashville angle

Actually it has nothing to do with Nashville as music city, it's just a sign on the highway. Really haven't flushed out the real story yet, gonna try to leave music out of it since it's a little over done.

I Iike the theme and the conversational flow. You’ve got the bones of a good story. Should be no problem for you to flesh them out.  A couple of suggestions. In V1, maybe go for ‘choose a life’ rather than ‘pick’a life. It strengthens the idea of making a choice, which is what ‘she’ wants the narrator to do. Incorporating a few of the six ‘friends’ (who, what, where, when, how, and why) into the narrative will give the story more ‘bite’, more to engage the reader/listener. It will also make the narrator (and the singee, if you decide to give her more presence) three-dimensional and sympathetic. I hope the suggestions are helpful, as intended. V1 I was driving out of town up I65 I kept turning around trying to pick a life the one she said I had to make or just keep driving all the way This implies driving all the way to somewhere, whereas the feeling I have is she wants him to either make a choice between her and his (presumably) lack of commitment or whatever, or just drive the heck away, no matter where. As long as it’s away from her. Maybe that idea could be bolstered. I’d like to see something about the ‘why’ she’s insisting he needs to make a choice. I needed some sort of sign. CHORUS And the sign said Nice transition from the last line of the verse.  North to nashville I agree with Ben’s suggestion to pick another city.South to alabama Maybe a city beginning with ‘S’?and I swore up and down til By ‘swore’ do you mean ‘cursed’? That feels more likely. The term ‘to swear up and down’ means to insist or to state something in a very strong way.I had to face facts What was I running from or running towards Good line, and in a sense its pivotal. I’d like to see the idea expanded. Especially as the next two lines seem to imply the narrator has already forgotten about the woman, and the only choice he’s concerned about is which part of the country to drive to.
