At the age of 92, my mom quietly passed away last night. She was a very, very special person—my guiding light whenever I wasn’t sure which road to take. She was always there, always ready to listen, whether I needed help or simply advice. She was incredibly creative: she wrote songs and books, and she painted beautiful artwork. Her laughter, her spirit, and her imagination made the world around her brighter. We will miss her dearly.
To honor her, I wrote a song. She loved to laugh, and she surely would have wanted something joyful rather than heavy or sad. She spent many years as a choir leader, so I gave it a gospel feel. Here is “Thank You Mama.” I like to imagine her somewhere above, listening to this song with a smile on her face. In fact, I’m absolutely sure that’s exactly what she’s doing.
